Trying to ween Lactose Intolerant 4 month old with no success - HELP

DS2 is 4 months old and Lactose Intolerant. Was diagnosed very quickly and is on Neocate. He was 9lbs at birth and is now nearly 18lbs so his weight has not suffered as a result of this intolerance. However he is now back to waking lots in the night as the milk does not seem to satisfy him. So, I have tried a variety of the normal first weening foods with terrrible results.
Baby rice - chronic wind and runny bum for 3 days and wheezing.
Pear, B. Squash, Sweet Potato, Carrot have all had a smiliar effect - they produce loads of wind in him and he starts to wheeze/runny eyes etc.
Wht is this ? I am getting worried now. What is the most easily digestible thing I can try on him ? Anyone any experience of this ?
The HV was useless and I am now seeking to harness the power of mumsnetters !

i'd forgotten about mother's diet also a factor for baby's comfort...

i once had a curry and baby was not happy.

sounds as though the OP's little lad needs as much help as he can get. Breastmilk would help, but maybe mother's diet could adversely effect it.

cowes milk and human milk have different lactose 'ingredients' so i still stand by my previous comment that a baby is highly unlikely to react to the mother's lactose.

i would contact a BF councellor, who might be able to suggest more and discuss what you have found out (the hard way : ( already).

agree diet might affect it but I lived off an incredibly bland diet for a whole week in an attempt to stop the reaction and it made zero difference unfortunately. On the plus side he had a little pureed carrot last night and loved it and no reaction. Am increasing the milk as much as I can but will give a small amount of carrot and just take it very slowly until 6months.

hi mouse, think it would still be good to talk to a BF councellor though, i think it takes a while for your body to process toxins and might take a while for cows milk to be totally out of your system (and breastmilk). it might take longer than a week to see the effects.

when it comes to babies nutrients, i would trust a BF councellor or midwife over a HV.

is your previous community midwife someone you could trust?

Mousemole, I have a dairy allergic son who's now 14 months, he also has a number of other food allergies. He had/has severe eczema when exposed to dairy through my breastmilk. I cut out all dairy for about six months and after the first few weeks he really showed a difference. It's a pain to do but worth it, he wouldn't contemplate Neocate so I didn't have much choice. I'm still breastfeeding but have gradually introduced dairy back into my diet with good results. If you can leave him on milk for as long as possible you may avoid allergy problems later on. Good luck!
