Turning WiFi off at night..

Hi all, I’m interested to get some feedback on what people think of WiFi really affecting people's health or wether it’s all in their head.. I have neighbours who are requesting we turn our WiFi off at night as none of them are sleeping and now they are all sleeping on floors (kids too) in rooms away from our house.. I’ve read lots of Fors and againsts and so far have not found any scientific proof that WiFi is really causing issues for people, that said, I don’t want people to not be sleeping (especially kids) because of something I am doing wrong.. which is basically what I’ve been told ..My family (children too) all sleep fine.. what do you think?

Your neighbours are batshit.

HTH.

Butternutsqoosh · 26/02/2019 11:27

Oh my good god - definitely 🦇 💩 them, not you!

HennaLights · 26/02/2019 11:27

For the last two nights I've switched my WiFi off, moved the router from my bedroom to the living room, and I've had the best solid night's sleep in ages.

CountessVonBoobs · 26/02/2019 11:31

They are mental and can be politely ignored.

Kelwar · 26/02/2019 11:34

Hennalights, I can see that having a router in your bedroom might be disruptive.. but this is next door..

MajesticWhine · 26/02/2019 11:34

I doubt there's anything in this. It's funny though. Is there any way to hide your WiFi so they can't see it? And pretend you have switched it off?

Kelwar · 26/02/2019 11:36

Thanks guys, that’s kind of what I thought.. their daughter told me last night that they now think it’s a stream (??) which runs underground at the back of our houses (that I’ve never heard of before) which is interfering with the water in their bodies... it’s getting bizarre to be honest...I’m all for a bit of eco beliefs but this lot seem a bit too far out...

FemalePersonator · 26/02/2019 11:38

I would tell them that I had turned the router off (while leaving it on, of course).

Kelwar · 26/02/2019 11:38

Majesticwhine, I did think of that.. pretending it’s off and see if they suddenly start sleeping better.. I wouldn’t mind but this is all very recent and they’ve lived next door for nearly 2 years!

Go out a buy them a big crystal and tell them it has magical properties to protect them from all outside influences such as WiFi, streams, etc.

JenMumma · 26/02/2019 11:51

At sundown, thrash them with Reeds

Megan2018 · 26/02/2019 11:59

Oh you could have so much fun with this OP!
Endless possibilities.

My cousin has married someone this crackers, it takes all my will power to not comment on her batshit facebook posts. With a neighbour I'd not hold back.

But seriously, it's your wifi - they can fuck the fuck off.

Kelwar · 26/02/2019 12:00

Love these responses.. so funny! Thanks for the giggles

For your own sake (but will help the neighbours too), turn the wifi router off at night. My DP is a scientist who researches health effects of various agents and he has always done this. Also--I know some scientists who researched the carcinogenic effects of wifi type radiation and they won't even have wifi any more in their place of work. They have wired internet instead. But they also advised me to turn off the router at night. See this, where a scientist warns about wifi effects:

Megan2018 · 26/02/2019 12:10

@SheeshazAZ09
if you turn the wifi off how do you use Mumsnet at 3am when you can't sleep or download films? Not all of us are asleep at night.

My wifi is on all the time and will stay on all the time.

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 26/02/2019 12:16

Go into your router settings, make it undiscoverable (I couldn't say how but google will know how to do it with your particular router)
Tell neighbours you no longer use Wifi.

Pop some Blair witch style twig figurines around your garden and tell neighbours the poppets will disrupt the aura destabilising energies emanating from the stream. WinkHmm

Honestly, you can have sooooo much fun with this. See how far you and your family can go.

butteryellow · 26/02/2019 12:16

You wouldn't just have to turn off the router, but also any device that tries to connect (eg modern TVs) - since they also generate the RF signals. Also wireless phones, baby monitors, wireless CCTV cameras.

Depending on if they're worried about intermittent RF interference, microwaves, and taking of particularly staticy jumpers are also a problem.

Unfortuntately there's not much to be done about powerlines (as they are AC, they of course produce some amount of signal), TV and radio broadcast, sunspots, electrical storms, car engines etc. And if you live in Cornwall, you're probably stuffed anyhow due to the high level of background radiation.

In summary - we are constantly bathed in various radiations, of various strengths, durations and frequencies. They are mad if they think it's your wifi that's causing them issues.

RiverTam · 26/02/2019 12:16

I'd just lie and tell them you have,

ShabbyAbby · 26/02/2019 12:17

Well...
I guess it makes a change from when I was a kid and people thought that it was microwaves

Then it was mobile phones

Now it's WiFi Blush

Any wonder any body gets any kip

This article explains the inverse square law, and shows a comparison of various RF sources.

Kelwar · 26/02/2019 12:28

The other baffling thing is, both mum and dad have smart phones...

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 26/02/2019 12:29

Make them each a tinfoil hat and leave your WiFi on.

EntirelyAnonymised · 26/02/2019 12:31

Is your neighbour Charles from Better Call Saul Hmm

FemalePersonator · 26/02/2019 12:34

Make them each a tinfoil hat and leave your WiFi on.

Best suggestion yet.

Kelwar · 26/02/2019 12:38

Butteryellow- exactly.. everywhere we are we are hit with electromagnets.. I’m not saying there is no merit in there being potential dangers.. I’d like the WHO to confirm this first though. I get the impression our neighbours are the types to dictate to whoever crosses their path.. I’m not going to pander to this as I don’t think this will end here.. they’ve already suggested they are in charge of switching off our WiFi at certain times.. my husband works from home often in the evening and we don’t want to be curtailed to times.. they have WiFi in their own home.. and smart phones..
