and my child is fine even though I messed it up and didn't hold it there long enough. They couldn't talk and were really frightened but were fine again within minutes.

Worst thing is that we hadn't had any food with nut warnings on it so they probably are allergic to something else. More allergy testing to be arranged

Should we start a new thread searching for the can, Tatt?

I think that if it goes in the headline more people will be able to see it and check for it.

Chandra · 17/11/2006 18:57

Hope you don't mind Tatt, I have started another thread to search for it.

no I don't mind - even if it does mean admitting to a sin against St James (Oliver, that is ). But sometimes I get fed up of having to cook several different meals from scratch. At least I have the best of reasons for telling dd she can't have more junk food.

Anaphylaxis campaign say it shouldn't matter anyway as peanut protein isn't changed by cooking. I knew that but had forgotten it. Anyway the food is cooked so another can would contain cooked but not reheated food.

I gues I e-mail the AC expert Monday, or ask trading standards to do so.

I'm no St James' follower (he uses wheat!!!! and many other healthy things DS can't have).

Tatt, I wonder if the manufacturer could find where that lot has been dispatched to, they should have a clearer idea, I suppose.

Hope you manage to get some answers, have you sorted the testing?

Spoke to trading standards again today and they still refuse to test my sample of the food because "there could have been anything in your pan before you cooked the food" and it wouldn't be as good for a prosecution. As you can imagine that didn't go down too well. I don't care whether they prosecute. I do care that they aren't investigating the health risk as quickly as they could.

The anaphylaxis campaign assure me that the manufacturer will now be taking it seriously and trying to track a can down.

Meanwhile I've found somewhere that can check the food if I pay £110 per allergen - so £220 if I want to test for peanut and lupin flour, more if they were negative and I needed to check other nuts. The kids would rather have a playstation for Christmas. I'm still hoping to get it done free but we may pay for peanut testing if I can't.

Gp's receptionist says a referral letter has been sent to the doctor we wanted to see for allergy testing . Later this week I can phone and check they've got it/ see how long we'll have to wait.

how scary for you but you handled it well. I had to use an epipen on my dd 2 years ago and was calm until after. This sound strange but I took an expired epi-pen and a big potato and used to test it on the potato. When I actually had to use one, I remeber thinking, thank god for that potato testing as it is much different from the trainer. I mentioned to my doctor what I was doing to a potato and she laughed and said she ought to try it as she had never used one.
