Lips swelling after eating nuts. Dh gone to get piriton

Should I be doing anything else and what should I watch for? It's for 3.5 year old dd. she seems fine but lips like she has had a botched collagen injection and tongue is itchy and hurting. Dh should be 5 mins with piriton

How long ago did she eat it? Tbh I'd not mess about and get her to A&E

i would take her to the hospital! if her mouth and tongue are swelling she needs to be seen asap

I only ask because it's usually, but not always, the second time that you eat an allergenic food that you shows symptoms.

Allergies can develop at any time, mind.

Give her the piriton and take her to the hospital.

Ambulance, don't drive yourself. They can intubate if need be.

Yes give piriton, if you have it at home, but ambulance now. They will give piriton at hospital so tell them how much you give her.

I'm sue she will be fine btw, but if there is any risk at all that her airway may be compromised, she needs to be in an ambulance where they will have equipment and adrenaline. Plus they will alert hospital so they know she's coming.

999 now, as previous posters have said, her breathing could become affected and you don't want her in the back of your car if that happens.

Thank you so much everyone. She is in bed, soundly sleeping. The paramedics have been here since I last posted. They were amazing, staying to monitor her through sleepiness and extreme vomiting. Airway is fine, they gave piriton basically kept a close eye on breathing. They told us to call 999 if anything changed but that she would probably be fine. I felt bad about calling but they said not to worry and I did the right thing as it could have changed very quickly. Thanks everyone. Poor dh got back to find ambulance on our drive. They were that quick!

Glad she's alright. That must have been really scary for all of you.
Trust your gut instinct, it doesn't look right, call 999. Children overcompensate and when things change, they change extremely quickly.
Have they suggested you see the GP in the morning?

Definitely sounds like your DD has an allergy. Take her to GP and ask for referral to allergy clinic. In the meantime, avoid all contact with nuts and nut products.
Be sure to tell your DD's nursery about the allergy too.

Yes they called the doctor when they were here to check about piriton dosage as she probably threw the first lot up and they wanted to check they could give more.. They want to see her for allergy testing. Doctor also said we did the right thing in calling 999. I was worried I was overreacting but clearly not. They said first reaction often not the most severe, it's like you get a warning sign. Horrible and scary and won't sleep well tonight!!

And thanks for the reminder about nursery. Will do that tomorrow as well as make an app for the doctor.
