Can anyone help my friend with birthday party recipes for a little boy who can't have dairy or eggs?

My friend is holding a birthday party next week for her dc but one of her guests is a little boy who has dairy and egg allergies. He was recently very upset at a party where he couldn't eat anything at all and my friend would like to make sure she has some nice food for him. She has bought dairy free ice-cream but would like a cake/muffin recipe if possible.
Any ideas?

this is the best cake recipe EVER raspberry blackout cake

i've served it over and over and it goes down well even with the most hardened non-vegans :-D

you can make it as cupcakes too. the icing is the best bit

what other kind of stuff is she doing?

sainsburys do some vegetarian mini sausage rolls which are egg and dairy-free (in case the meat ones contain either)

ready salted crisps are ok, some flavoured ones are ok but she'd need to check

and sandwiches made with pure spread or vitalite, with ham/jam/peanut butter/humous/marmite

We are in Ireland, thisis, so sadly no Sainsbury's unless we go up North!

I make sausage rolls at home and it's v easy - just check sausagemeat is dairy / egg free, and same with puff pastry - I buy it ready rolled and it takes about 5 minutes but is loved by all.

Your friend is very sweet and I'm sure anything she does will be really appreciated :)

Raspberry blackout cake is amazing. I have a cookbook full of egg/dairy free cupcake recipes, so could probably find you whatever your friend was looking for (I.e. vanilla, chocolate, lemon, ginger to name a few). PM me if you like.

there's no Sainsbury's in Ireland???? that's crazy!

agree though she could make some if she makes sure she has egg/dairy free sausages or sausagemeat.

and agree again that she is a really lovely lady! we've been to so many parties where I've had to tell ds2 and ds3 that they can't eat anything except maybe some crisps :(

Georgio Locatelli chocolate cake - egg and dairy free

MrsShrek3 · 09/08/2012 20:20

My dairy allergic dc go to parties with a box of food - we usually check the "menu" and just send their own equivalent. Going to so much trouble by another parent is amazing, how lovely!!

trixymalixy · 10/08/2012 00:25

I make top hats with Lindt 70% chocolate, marshmallows and tooty frooties. To say that kids gobble them down is an understatement!!!

trixymalixy · 10/08/2012 00:27

I used to top them with whizzers chocolate beans (dairy free smarties), but I can't get hold if them anymore Sad.

chipmonkey · 10/08/2012 00:56

No, thisis you gave us Tesco but drew the line at Sainsbos! Trixy, those top hats sound lovely. Am thinking I might make them and drop them to her house tomorrow night.
And yes, she is brilliant. And underappreciated by some. ( I'm looking at you, friend's MIL!)

Lots of good cake recipes here so I will not add mine.

I would suggest trying to get some dairy-free chocolate and making crispy cakes as they are so easy.

We use the kinnerton chocolate but other makes are available... break and mix with a dollup of pure spread and some golden syrup, microwave till melted + rice krispies. Some jazzy cases. A lot of sprinkles are dairy and egg free, you just have to read the small print.

A friend of mine makes chocolate crispy cakes using cocoa powder and icing sugar instead of the actual chocolate and it works perfectly well.

Also marshmallows are dairy and egg free (but not veggie or halal).

Maz007 · 10/08/2012 09:32

Just to say some marshmallows have egg (one of those hugely irritating things) so do double check.

BalloonSlayer · 10/08/2012 10:39

Shit! Do they? Well I always do check every time anyway, but thanks for the warning Maz.

Maz007 · 10/08/2012 22:51

... I think it's pretty rare for comercially made marshmallows to be fair - but it was a tip I was given to me when my DD was diagnosed so I do always check in case.

AnitaBlake · 12/08/2012 00:16

We did cooked chicken (whole) and s joint of beef, and bread with butter and pure available, dips were crudities with hummous and salsa, tortillas, assorted pickles, homemade sausage rolls and mini pasties, savoury rice, couscous, dairy free Krispy cakes, no-one could tell the difference tbh!

Maz007 · 12/08/2012 02:02

I've also been thinking we've found dairy and egg free cocktail sausages too in various supermarkets...

MrsHelsBels74 · 12/08/2012 09:19

You do have to be so careful, I bought some orange squash once when I was vegan that had milk products in it...Confused

Totally my own fault but it had never occurred to me to associate milk & squash before.

Magicmayhem · 15/08/2012 14:16

my son is allergic to dairy eggs and nuts, when he was younger we used to send him to parties with his own little party lunch box, I never really trusted other people, as they just didn't seem to get the contamination thing...
your friend does sound really lovely though...

abigboydidit · 24/08/2012 21:52

Quick question re the pasties and sausage rolls - is it easy to buy puff pastry that doesn't contain butter?

trixymalixy · 24/08/2012 22:02

Yes, most puff pastry you can buy in the supermarket doesn't contain butter.

Cheaper frozen sausage rolls are usually dairy free.
