My ds has ezcema on his face and it doesn't go away without any cream. His is a big patch, all over his left cheek and down under his chin. When it is cleared up use loads of moisturiser. HTH

Distel · 08/03/2006 17:42

I found the emoliant creams don't work, it needs cortisone.

hermykne · 08/03/2006 17:43

distel u cant or arent supposed to use it on face??

OP posts:
alexsmum · 08/03/2006 17:45

you can use 0.5 % on the face

Distel · 08/03/2006 17:45

You can as I and my mum both have it on our faces. You need to use it as little as you can get away with, It's not ideal but it is the only way we can clear up ds'.

hermykne · 08/03/2006 17:47

i have 1%. but i know what u mean just a little does clear it up almost immediatly

OP posts:
Distel · 08/03/2006 17:50

Did you ask the doc about using it on dd, or weather you needed a weaker cream. Emoliants are great for keeping it at bay but IMO don't generally clear it up.

Katiepoo · 11/03/2006 21:02

Just posted on another thread about dd excema. She had a dry spot on her back that she scratched and it became infected causing a red rash all over her back. Doctor has given emolient and cortison cream in the past but reluctant to use cortison cream and emolient hasn't really done much good. Now I can't use cortison as her skin is broken. Have turned to a homeopath as I don't want dd to have to rely on antibiotics every time she scratches her excema as she gets really bad thrush. Will let you know how the homeopathic treatment works out. Also, I thought I read a thread somewhere that Ecover washing powder aggrevates excema, which is what I use, did I imagine this??

hermykne · 11/03/2006 21:07

katie i bought ecover this week and also saw that its aggravating somewhere on mimsnet afterwards but i think a few said its trial and error to find the right powder/liquid , i got surcare too.

interested to hear how it goes with homeopath.
my dd did visit one at 15mths and i re read the notes this week and it does ring true , dd now 3 1/2.

all i got for her was flax seed oil and drops.

i found this link today, quite good

we ahev used 0.5% on ds2's face on one occassion.

we use aqueous cream twice a daily to moisturise

Katiepoo · 11/03/2006 21:46

My homepath also gave me some probiotic powder that can be sprinkled into food and also a bottle of essential fatty acids (flax seed and loads of other oils), and cream with lavender, tea tree chammomile (smells divine!) It's all a bit confusing but this woman was recommended to me and she has a small child of her own so I do trust her and she seems to know what she is talking about. Will keep to posted as to if it helps the excema.

mamatotokf · 11/03/2006 22:14

My dd is just 5 months old and has eczema on her face. We have been to the doctors twice - he gave us diprobase and now double base. It doesn't seem to be clearing up and now there are little patches all over her body too. I breastfed her til 4 months but she had eczema from about 2 months old. Am using aptamil formula - should i change it?

hermykne · 12/03/2006 14:47

mama you may have to go to your doc for advice on that one
are there milk allergies in the family?

my dd was breastfeed til 6mths and then on aptimal and now with hindsigt looking back she had itching from it - i just didnt cop nor did my useless docotr! say no more about him

hermykne · 12/03/2006 14:48

nanny goat milk formula might help, if u search here there 'll be stuff on it.

other alterantive soy formulae but i am not in favour of them

mamatotokf · 12/03/2006 20:16

thanks hermykne. i am going to see a homeopath this week so let's see how we get on. We don't have any milk allergies in the family though my husband gets hay fever, some of his family has asthma and my sister has psoriasis.... i thought if you breastfed this wasn't supposed to happen.
I've seen goats milk formula in Waitrose. Maybe i'll try it and see how we get on. I used a teeny bit of timodene on it last night (0.5%) and it does seem a bit better today.

I always post on these threads to say try cutting out bananas - my DS had awful excema on his face, it cracked and bled etc. I was bfing but eating bananas myself then weaning him on bananas too. Read somewhere on internet about it, stopped bananas completely and within a matter of weeks he was excema free - completely. His skin still flares up if he has the occasional banana (typically he loves them!).

Hope you find your cure.

Katiepoo · 12/03/2006 22:02

Seen something about SOS cream but can't find the thread, does anyone know what the website is? Am interested in getting some.

Northerner · 16/03/2006 20:39

Hmm, interesting to read about bananas. Hadn't thought of that.

My ds suffers from excezma and he gets it on his eye lids so he is forever rubbing them and ends up with red rings around his eyes. It looks awful. Atm am putting vaseline on as it's his eyes, do you think I could put hydrocortisone on his lids when he's sleeping?

chocolateshoes · 16/03/2006 20:44

That's inteesting about bananas - might leave them out for a bit to see if the patches on DS's face clear up.

You can get SOS Rescue Cream from Barefoot Botanicals & they'll send you a free sample sachet if you call. Some people swear by it, but I tried some on DS & it didn't help. Worth a try though.

kiskidee · 16/03/2006 20:48

dd had stubborn eczema on her face. previously I was only controlling it with hydrocortisone. saw the doctor last friday and he recommended using Epaderm a few times during the day to moisturise whenever her face felt dry. I am now using it 4 times a day and it is working!

nannynz · 16/03/2006 20:53

I nanny for a now eight month old boy who suffers excema. He has had it since before 3 months and was just using epiderm until just before xmas. He had terrible outbreak on his cheeks that became infected. The Doctor prescribed hydrocortisone(1%) and then lather in vaseline. This worked ok but it did not go away. Then another Doctor said not to use the hydro and that he should not have been weaned(he was nearly six months at that time) - so for two months we battled on just keeping it clean, using oliatum in the bath and applying vaseline. He was waking three to four times a night and scratching at all times. We had appt for a specialist in April. BUT we went to another doctor for ear infection last Friday who prescribed dermol for the bath, hydrocortisone(2%) and then diprobase - he is now clear and I hope it lasts. We did five days of the hydro and he has slept three nights from 7pm - 7pm.

Northerner · 17/03/2006 08:33

I am really struggling to find soething to combat this. Already use Dermal in the bath (have tried oilatum), we also have hydrocortisone, fucibet, aquous cream, diprobase, aveeno, can't remeber the name of the other one but it looks like lard.....

Will try the no banana thing and see how we go. Am also cutting out dairy atm.

Does anyone else notice an improvement in the summer months?

Nemo1977 · 17/03/2006 08:35

northener I was talking to mil yesterday about DDs excema and she mentioned when she was a florist she used to stock evening primrose cream and that someone had come in from the hospital as their child was under skin specialists for excema. Anyways apparently by a week later it was looking greatly improved...dont know if it would work but am going to try it for DD.

kiskidee · 17/03/2006 11:52

how often are you putting an emollient on her face? I could only control dd's with hydrocortisone when I was moisturising 2x a day. I am now moisturising at least 4 times a day and it has helped loads.

catherineskelly · 21/03/2006 20:33

One of my little girls suffered quite badly with excezma and I didn't like to constantly use hydrocortisone cream as it seemed too harsh. I found a website called www.purepotions.co.uk and found a cream called "skin salvation". It contains only natural products and was a miracle for me and my daughter. It really "soaks"` into the skin and provides instant relief (although it can be quite greasy especially if applying to the scalp). Hope this helps :)
