I have recently gone AF, first visit to the pub tonight with friends.
I like ginger flavours, cranberry juice, elderflower, sparkling wine. But not sure what to ask for and don’t really want pure juice.
What do you go for?

Lime and soda, Low calorie tonic water or Pepsi max for me. The reason I’m AF is because of the calories rather than the alcohol content and there’s usually a very limited choice of sugar free soft drinks.

WinterNightStars · 06/06/2026 17:42

Lime & soda or Diet Coke
Thatchers zero cider is nice, old mout ones too but you’re getting all the calories & none of the alcohol 🤣 so tend to go with lime & soda

literallyevery · 06/06/2026 17:44

Yes that’s what I didn’t mention. I don’t want a load of sugar!

Always just lime & soda - very occasionally a non alcoholic Cocktail!

Jennalong · 06/06/2026 17:46

Don't drink alcohol & dislike fizz , and orange juice gives me indigestion .
So just a coffee /tea if during the day , plain water if not .

ThatGreenFawn · 06/06/2026 17:48

AF pink "gin" and lemonade or thatchers zero cider depending on my mood.

PiggieWig · 06/06/2026 17:50

I have a tonic water ‘but make it fancy’. The same as they’d make it if it had gin in it.
It irks me when they go all out with garnishes for the fancy gins and just lob an ice cube in a pop glass for non drinkers, so I like to specify

BreezyPeachGoose · 06/06/2026 17:52

I've taken my own tea bags before and I just ask for hot water and a mug.

Tonight I'm taking chai tea bags 🎉

If I’m feeling flush I’ll have a St Clements which is orange juice , bitter lemon and topped with either soda water or sprite to make it a long drink

Other wise lime and soda or sometimes a Virgin Mary with loads of WS

Was going to suggest St Clements too.

I also like a cranberry juice and lemonade or soda. Or a lime and soda.

I do drink, but these are what I go for if I’m not doing so. There’s apparently also something called a ‘gunners‘ which is ginger ale and soda topped with angostura’s bitters but I’ve never actually tried that, it is one I came across when I was googling non alcoholic options as I fancied a change.

Tabarnak · 06/06/2026 17:56

Pint of lime and soda.

It only has sugar in the cordial

Every other mixer has sugar or sweetener in it.

Soda is just carbonated water.

Angostura bitters is alcoholic

Angostura bitters is alcoholic

Is it really? I had no idea!

I think the idea was just a couple of drops - but even so!

LilyCanna · 06/06/2026 18:06

Ginger beer. I hate the aftertaste of the sweeteners that are in almost every soft drink nowadays and the flavour of ginger is about the only thing strong enough to mask it. Only original Coke has held out and for me that’s more a drink for knocking back on a hot day rather than sipping.

likelysuspect · 06/06/2026 18:13

Its quite difficult to find non alcoholic drinks for me as I dont have anything with artificial sweetners in them and most soft drinks do have them in, even if they also have sugar as well

Ive learned it does depend on what brand the lime cordial it is, Britvic has sweetners in it.

Yes, sorry, I worded that badly: With lime and soda only the cordial bit has sugar and / or sweeteners - the rest is carbonated water.

Whereas any soft drink with lemonade, orange juice. even tonic water as a main volume of the drink adds up to a lot of sugar.

Roses is the best but I have never known a pub use it, sadly.

MariaMagdalenaa · 06/06/2026 19:39

I drink alcohol, but not much and usually asks for non alcoholic beer or tonic water with ice.

OverTheWater28 · 06/06/2026 19:39

Soda water and lime

I love a lime and lemonade or a lime and soda

Lime and soda for me as well

literallyevery · Yesterday 10:04

I ended up having a J2O apple and raspberry to start, forgot how nice these were as haven’t had them since pregnant 6 years ago.
Then a bottle green elderflower cordial and soda water. I dunno if this pub had extremely bubbly soda but it was the fizziest thing I’ve ever had, and soo nice! No hangover this morning, 2nd wash load in, going for a bike ride later with the kids, feeling good!

meant to say, I will definitely try lime and soda next time as so many have suggested this.
