I have recently gone AF, first visit to the pub tonight with friends.
I like ginger flavours, cranberry juice, elderflower, sparkling wine. But not sure what to ask for and don’t really want pure juice.
What do you go for?

I like sparkling elderflower, there are a couple of nice brands that some pubs sell, Fentimans or Bottlegreen. Also, some pubs do spritzers, so a cordial with soda water, some places will do raspberry or lemon.

MyDayMyWay · 06/06/2026 12:01

I don't drink lager but love AF lager.
So Becks Blue or anything similar.

TriggersBroom · 06/06/2026 12:03

blackcurrant and soda

Missingducks · 06/06/2026 12:03

I like a really good tonic water eg Mediterranean tonic with a slice of orange and in a gin bowl glass with lots of ice - I don't bother with the a/f gins
Or 0% Guinness
Or OJ with Ginger Ale

Peekingovertheparapet · 06/06/2026 12:05

I sometimes just go for a tonic water, especially if they have fever tree elderflower

Oldraver · 06/06/2026 12:11

Any Fentimens, Cawston Press and another premium name I can't remember. All have elderflower versions of decent lemonade

Appleandcidergravy · 06/06/2026 12:40

I quite like a
Non alcoholic cocktail- a mojito or a Shirley temple are my go tops
Orange juice and lemonade
Lime and lemonade or soda water
At home I am known to make all kinds of slightly wacky non alcoholic cocktails- with any drinks that are open....

westcott · 06/06/2026 12:48

Appletiser usually.

Tryagain26 · 06/06/2026 12:50

Lime and soda, sparkling elderflower or just ask what they have.

andana · 06/06/2026 12:50

Alcohol free gin is fairly convincing with a decent tonic.

Soda water with a wedge of lime.

Fancy mixer (Fentimans etc)

When I was prego I sometimes just ordered a cup of tea!!

PermanentTemporary · 06/06/2026 12:52

Lime and soda is a reliably cheap option, one of the very few cheap things in the average pub. Don’t be afraid to ask for the balance to be adjusted if it’s too sweet, get more soda.

I like a St Clements (half and half orange juice and lemonade).

Heineken 0 is my favoured AF lager.

literallyevery · 06/06/2026 12:53

can someone explain for me what’s the difference between soda water and tonic water?

RoseyLentil · 06/06/2026 13:10

short answer - soda water has sodium in it and tonic water has quinine in it.

BlahBlahName · 06/06/2026 13:22

Sparkling water with a dash of lime cordial. Or order a juice and a sparkling water and mix them, it'll last you all night and just get fresh ice. Cranberry or pineapple juice work well like this. I do like a non alcoholic gin and tonic too.

That just shows how personal taste is - Heineken along with Becks Blue and Bud Light seem to me to be still the old school cats piss AFs, there are many others now with more interesting and (imo) pleasant flavours.

Prombles · 06/06/2026 17:19

Lemonade or coke with lime juice.

Lakesfun · 06/06/2026 17:21

I've tried everything and have come to the conclusion that I really don't want sugary drinks, even sophisticated ones, all evening. Maybe one to begin, then plain soda water for me.

LaJacondeFumantLaPipe · 06/06/2026 17:22

If I'm not drinking alcohol, I usually look at their drinks menu and have an AF spritz of some description. I then usually switch to fizzy water

LaJacondeFumantLaPipe · 06/06/2026 17:23

X posted with lakes! Same thing for me. One is enough as it gets very sugary after that

ForestHare · 06/06/2026 17:27

Pint of diet coke

rightoguvnor · 06/06/2026 17:33

San Miguel 0.0 is my AF beer of choice when I feel the need for a lager & lime.
Otherwise I have a tonic water as I have this weird idea that it’s good for my dodgy knee.
Or soda and lime.
Or blackcurrant and lemonade.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 06/06/2026 17:35

Rock shandy - dash of bitters, 50% something bland (tonic, soda water, whatever you like), 50% something sweet (lemonade or similar). Serve with ice and lemon.

Tonic water is fizzy and bitter, soda water is just fizzy and doesn't really taste of anything.

I usually have Appletiser or apple juice, sometimes coke - I'm very limited for options because I don't drink alcohol or artificial sweeteners, and virtually all mixers and a lot of cordials are artificially sweetened now.
