Dry Jan 2026- anyone care to join in?

Since there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated dry Jam thread I thought I would start one and see if I get any company.
I so need this. Drinking has made me feel sluggish, anxiety ridden and awful. I remembered how great I felt doing it last year but slipped back into old habits far too easily.

I’m on day 9 today, so far so good. Big thing for me is calories saved so tracking that via the Try Dry app is a motivator.

Sleep is a bit crap but I think I’m coming down with something so that won’t be helping.

I don’t drink in the week anyway so I won’t notice until Friday night now.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Im definitely a boredom drinker, and also a reward drinker. So if I work hard (boring!) I want to pour wine on my brain to reward it! I don’t do fake alcohol but I do like tonic water and ginger beer.
Last night when I found myself craving I made a cup of tea. Think I’m going to be drinking Mrs Doyle levels of tea!
Interesting a couple of you mentioned ADHD. Pretty sure im one of those people and I’ve realised I am addicted to intense sensations . When things are calm and im not tired or rushing etc I feel really antsy, like I have to do something to either upset the balance or calm my brain. Makes no sense!
Thinking about getting to gaming 🤔and wondering if anyone else has found that helpful?

Todayisanewday75 · 05/01/2026 15:59

Can I join? I didn’t start until the 3rd as had a big family party on the 2nd. Really need to do this as I consumed way too much over the Xmas holidays. Will go and read the thread from the beginning to catch up

Go searching for another obsession - Jigsaw, knitting, reading, walking (steps) - decorate a room. I love a new focus. Not interested in gaming though...so can't help with advice on that.

Just checking in and sending solidarity to you all, well done is, it’s nice to have company. Especially as DH always dislikes that I’m not drinking and is certainly not up for DJ.
I have to confess that, knowing that I would sleep very very badly, I have melatonin tablets which are definitely helping.

I ate a bowl of frosties at 10:30 last night and they were tremendous. Definitely a little sugar craving going on here!

A bowl of Frosties is much better than a glass (or a bottle!) of wine so well done you 👏

Jojooo2025 · 05/01/2026 19:09

Hubby has asked me if I want to help finish off a third of a bottle of white that is left over from New Year - I am finding it very hard to resist! I am putting my 5 yo to bed and when I come downstairs will be my main temptation hurdle! 🤦‍♀️

Buntyforgirls · 05/01/2026 19:20

@Jojooo2025 oh no, temptation! Can you brush your teeth quickly?

Buntyforgirls · 05/01/2026 19:22

Unfortunately in my case, sharing a third would have me rushing out to buy a whole bottle!

ThePoshUns · 05/01/2026 19:31

A third of a bottle is one glass, let him have it and you can feel superior for not giving in!

Freeze it?

Love seeing all the positivity on here!

I've had the best day yet ! Bundles of energy and generally feeling happy about life!
Went food shopping and no alcohol bought - went for ribena instead.
I'm surprised at myself but I guess we know when it's time don't we.
Here's to sober Monday :-)

Fundays12 · 05/01/2026 20:44

Day 5 completed here. Its been a busy day scrubbing the house to get it back to normal after Christmas and then the gym tonight. My kids go back to school on Wednesday and are so ready to go now.

Hedjwitch · 05/01/2026 20:47

Day 5 done and first day back at work. Had a Guinness Zero with dinner then a cup of tea. I have found replacing your glass of cold tipple with a hot drink like tea,hot chocolate, spiced apple juice etc breaks the connection a bit and you dont feel " cheated" by your substitute drink.
Face definitely less puffy already.

ThePoshUns · 05/01/2026 20:53

Wednesday will be a big hurdle as I have not done more than 4 days without a drink in 2025. The longest I did last DJ was 8 days. I really want to beat that this year.

Londog · 05/01/2026 20:59

Nice feeling at the till tonight that I’d saved a few quid already by not buying wine 👍🏻

Jojooo2025 · 05/01/2026 21:41

I had an AF aperol instead 💪

Buntyforgirls · 05/01/2026 21:44

Anyone else get a buzz from going to bed AF??
It's such a nice feeling to know a) that you will feel ok in the morning, b) that your body will be repairing, and c) that you do have some self control .
Sleep well all.

Buntyforgirls · 05/01/2026 21:46

Well done @Jojooo2025

I opened a bottle of wine for a casserole tonight and stuck the rest straight in the freezer 😅

Strikethepower · 05/01/2026 22:38

@2026xwell done with the frozen wine
@Buntyforgirlsnope, getting to sleep has been harder than usual - staying asleep easier though!
Had an M&S alcohol free mojito tonight while cooking dinner. Very nice, not too sweet. Hard to find drinks that don’t contain artificial sweeteners - I don’t want much sugar either.

I’m going out tomorrow night for a girls night in - I won’t be tempted, I’ve a few cans of kombucha and a will of steel at the beginning- I’ll wobble at the end!Blush

I know what you mean. It’s a little bit smug but I like it!

Great stuff! Which aperol did you go for and do you recommend it?

ODFOx · 05/01/2026 23:59

Day 5 done. I’m interested in what you are saying about carb cravings. I don’t have a sweet tooth but have eaten all the Christmas sweets over the last 5 days. I hadn’t made the connection.
they’re all gone now so hopefully my appetite will normalise. I certainly don’t need to offset the wine calories I’m avoiding!!

I have crodini and soda, it's really good I think.
