Dry Jan 2026- anyone care to join in?

Since there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated dry Jam thread I thought I would start one and see if I get any company.
I so need this. Drinking has made me feel sluggish, anxiety ridden and awful. I remembered how great I felt doing it last year but slipped back into old habits far too easily.

@CNDflag that is great, very motivating!

Like @Hedjwitch I am starting to sleep a bit better, and today felt an energy that has been missing for a while, and that is motivating too.

Have a good weekend everyone!

CNDflag · 09/01/2026 22:08

@BuntyforgirlsI would post the pics in here if they weren’t completely outing! It is really motivating to see just how much better I look after 9 days dry, not to mention how much better my MH is.

ThePoshUns · 09/01/2026 22:16

O wish I’d thought to take a day 1 photo as my skin is definitely less puffy and my eyes less baggy

Nanny31 · 09/01/2026 22:27

Day 9 done. Sober and ready for sleep after a productive day. Who am I! Haha.

Well done all

Doyouthinktheyknow · 10/01/2026 06:28

I am definitely sleeping better which is a huge win as my sleep has been horrendous!

Glad I made it through Friday night, my normal drinking night. I’ll be pleased to make it through Saturday.

Well done everyone🫶🏻

ThePoshUns · 10/01/2026 08:01

Had a terrible sleep which was disappointing. Maybe it was the 6 Jaffa cakes I ate?

Buntyforgirls · 10/01/2026 08:49

@ThePoshUns , I slept badly too, very disappointing when I was sure I was in for a good one.
Still feeling more positive, and yes, so good for our mental health, apart from the alcohol effect, to know that we have set a goal and are in control, even when it's hard.
One of the worst things, l used to find, was feeling undisciplined, and that alcohol controlled me rather than the other way round.

champagneplanet · 10/01/2026 08:49

Day 9 done, and it was a Friday so very pleased with that. Went for a swim while DD was doing her lesson and reaching for the wine just didn’t feel right afterwards.

We have a big pub lunch out planned for today with visiting family. I’m driving plus a few others so there will be more non drinkers than drinkers, plus quite a few kids, so I wouldn’t be tempted anyway.

Definitely eating more of an evening. Can’t have a cuppa without a biscuit!

Buntyforgirls · 10/01/2026 08:54

Rambling long sentence, sorry, regurgitating train of thoughts!

Sounds a lovely day @champagneplanet . I have yet to socialise AF. I'm not sure how I would find it. I think I would be thinking it would be better to be drinking...

Miloarmadillo2 · 10/01/2026 09:04

Hi all - day 10 today. Last night’s steak and chips was not quite the same without a nice glass of Malbec but we persevere. Sleep is getting better again so that is one positive.

Nanny31 · 10/01/2026 10:29

Morning all. Slept like the dead last night. Full of beans this morning and ready for the day. 10 days woo hoo. My skin is glowing !

Well done all!

thisoldcity · 10/01/2026 11:09

Another evening ticked off...glad we are all feeling the benefits!

dragoncheeselady · 10/01/2026 11:26

First night out tonight without alcohol. Actually looking forward to it but will see how I do when I get there. Had a couple of moments where I have wanted a glass of wine but they have passed quickly.

MirandaWallis · 10/01/2026 14:10

Day 10. Well done everyone. Friday night didn't quite feel the same. I got past wine o clock but it wasn't easy I'll admit. I can't deny i feel better. Sleeping better. Skin is starting to benefit i think. I've offered to cover a shift at work tonight, making sure I don't cave in 😏. Keep it up girls

wherearetheturrets · 10/01/2026 15:23

Day 10 and I feel like today is my greatest trial so far! Dps been doing overtime at work and I’ve had 2 toddlers by myself for 6 days straight (sahm), who have been particularly difficult this week and I’m drained and stressed and would LOVE a drink. Going to go and buy either some alcohol free wine, or some stuff to make myself mocktails in the hope that it satisfies. Snacked more over the past 9 days as well which isn’t great.

ODFOx · 10/01/2026 15:32

I had a glass of wine with dinner last night. It was only one and I felt ok but as I forgot to check in here before bed clearly it was enough to mess up the routine. Back in the saddle today.

LydiaBennetsBonnet · 10/01/2026 16:11

Im still in. Feeling good. Had some tests results back showing slight liver elevated levels which has really worried me and spurred me on to keep on with this! Going for a run in a bit and have a nice AF white for later.

Jojooo2025 · 10/01/2026 20:36

I've had a very challenging day with my autistic 5 year old. All afternoon I've been saying to myself I'd probably have a drink tonight, but I've got to half 8, both kids in bed, the cat is on my lap and I know I won't have any alcohol now. But I miss the numbing out the wine gives me, and my mood is low. Sitting with difficult feelings is really hard 😔

Nanny31 · 11/01/2026 07:53

Morning all happy day 11!
Keep going 💪

ThePoshUns · 11/01/2026 08:05

I caved last night. We had a takeaway with my son and his gf, and I drank a bottle of cremant. Have had a terrible sleep. Will climb back on the wagon. Well done to those with better resolve than me .

Strikethepower · 11/01/2026 08:19

@Jojooo2025 Well done for working through those emotions without turning to wine - it's hard going.

I got though Saturday night - but it felt a little strange without wine - dare I say it defines my weekends.

There's definitely a danger time in the day - mine's somewhere between 6-8pm for me - if I'm going to have cravings then that's the time and weekends are when I feel it strongest.

It's just habit - trained thought and it can be untrained, we can develop different habits, we just have to want to (not that easy, I know).

High five to your honesty ❤️
It’s not a competition, every day is a new day and you’d had a fair few alcohol free days prior to drinking so you’re doing amazingly wellxxx

MirandaWallis · 11/01/2026 08:45

Morning ladies. To pp who states wine defines the weekend, I totally relate to that. We are a third of the way through !!!. January can be a miserable month and sometimes I think why am I making it even more miserable 😂. But here we are, trying our best, getting back on the wagon if we've had a slip up. Well done everyone.

CNDflag · 11/01/2026 09:11

We’re 35% through the month! 💪
Still not tempted at all to drink following my shocking HO on NY day 🤢. Hoping the memory of dry retching over the toilet will keep me on the straight and narrow until at least the end of March!

dragoncheeselady · 11/01/2026 10:40

Had a lovely night out and make didn't drink. Plus we drove so didn't have to deal with the 20 minute wait for my the bus in the freezing cold so that was a bit plus.
