Reaction to alcohol

I am a binge drinker two nights a week. Last night I had 9 drinks (wine and beer) between 7pm and 12pm. I had a steak dinner at 8pm. This would be a usual amount for me to drink if not more.

When I got home I had never felt so drunk in all my life. I could barely walk up the stairs, I fell
onto the bed and could not get up again on my own. This led to vomiting and shaking uncontrollably, I was on the bathroom floor and could not get up falling in and out of consciousness.

My husband was convinced my drink had been spiked and took me to A and E. Bloods came back clear but with alcohol level of 1000.

I have never been like that and if has scared me to death and the what ifs - if my husband hadn’t be at home to look after me. Was a this alcohol poisoning?? Going to try and give up drinking for good.

I wouldn’t navel gaze about it

Just focus on giving up

Weekendwatch · 26/10/2025 15:28

9 drinks would have me unconscious

Weekendwatch · 26/10/2025 15:28

Or dead

DoubleShotEspressox · 26/10/2025 15:31

How did they measure your blood alcohol level?? Usually it’s done in % with 0.4% enough to render most people unconscious (or dead at 0.45%).

Any new medication? Didn’t eat during the day? “Friends” ordering triples as a joke?

DoubleShotEspressox · 26/10/2025 15:31

Bearing in mind the average person will metabolize one unit per hour, that’s over five hours I wouldn’t expect you to be in that kind of state.

Weekendwatch · 26/10/2025 15:33

Your husband had been drinking too?

Catonafreezingfridge · 26/10/2025 15:36

How many bottles of wine and beer was that?

MN224 · 26/10/2025 15:38

One and half bottles of wine and 2 pints of beer.

That kind of reaction would make me think that maybe your liver is getting a bit bashed from the binging and not processing the alcohol well.

How do you feel now?

Weekendwatch · 26/10/2025 15:40

MN224 · 26/10/2025 15:38

One and half bottles of wine and 2 pints of beer.

Who were you with?

Andregroup · 26/10/2025 15:44

Could it be worth getting a liver function test?

MN224 · 26/10/2025 15:45

I was out with my husband he had similar to me. Feel rubbish today.

It could be a number of things, I’d book a gp appointment and see what full blood panel shows. The try dry app is really good.

Both of you drunk like this???! How on earth are you managing to parent today?

So your husband called an ambulance last night?

Weekendwatch · 26/10/2025 15:52

He took you to A&E despite having drunk the same?

Hayley1256 · 26/10/2025 15:54

Are you on any medication?

Tamfs · 26/10/2025 15:58

Just seen your age. That happens past 40 - you're not a young binge drinker anymore. I had to learn the same way.

anytipswelcome · 26/10/2025 15:58

Are your kids in the home when you’re this drunk?

MN224 · 26/10/2025 16:00

No meds. Kids were sleeping.

Perimeno. I haven't drank since I was 44 and I didn't drink that much either. I loved a few glasses of Rioja at the weekends but overnight it absolutely killed me with awful flushing and headaches and yuk. I never looked back and am 68 now.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 26/10/2025 16:03

If you drink the same amount every weekend maybe it is taking its toll on your system. Just because your body coped before doesn't mean it will always do so. Assuming a drink wasn't spiked, I would be very careful from now on. You're still young and liver disease is not fun.

anytipswelcome · 26/10/2025 16:05

MN224 · 26/10/2025 16:00

No meds. Kids were sleeping.

So they were at home with two parents who had drunk this amount.

Tipsy might be one thing but dangerously drunk in your case and your husband having drunk a similar amount, both of you going to A&E to get you checked (so who was with the kids then!) and presumably neither of you in a good state when they woke up this morning…

You’ll think I’m mean but it’s time for a wake up call OP, that’s pretty bloody shocking to be honest.

Mauro711 · 26/10/2025 16:07

I also think that you have damaged your liver and this is the result. Binge drinking like this causes fatty liver and it causes the liver to scar. You really need to look after yourself better.

MN224 · 26/10/2025 16:08

Kids are 15 and 18 so not young. Husband up early to take 15 to sports. We got a lift to A and E.

Massive wake up call - Day 1 starts today.
