Am I an alcoholic? What do I do?

Hi,
I drink a bottle of wine every night after work. I work 12 hour shifts and it helps me unwind, alongside watching ridiculous drama series. What do I do? This has gone on since 2019, I'm scared I will have liver problems. I lost my dad during covid to alcoholic liver disease. It was truly awful. Any advice really appreciated x

Unless I'm off work and yes, it would be more but I'd not be driving in the morning. I'm a support worker x

Yes I drive to work, but there's no alcohol in my system by then surely, my last drink is usually 11.30pm. X

9 hours for a bottle of wine to clear. So as long as you aren't driving before 8.30, you should at least be legal. Fit is more dependant on the person (I wouldn't be fit even if legal)

@Greatly I can believe 40 bottles in 2 months - my late husband could put that much away. Fortunately he didn't drive.

I'm an alcoholic op For me it started after my Mam died. I was drinking a bottle of wine every other day. Then it was every day and then it was 2/3 bottles on a Friday and Saturday. I thought I was in control. The first time I tried to stop I lasted 3 days. I then began lying, sneaking around hiding drink.

My point being alcoholism is a slippery slope. It only gets worse. Try stopping for a few days, see how you feel. Do you miss it? Is your mood better or worse? Are you irritable? Are you constantly thinking about not drinking?

My first call was my GP, I did a home detox and stayed sober for over a year. I thought now I was well I wasn't actually an alcoholic. I thought I could moderate. The relapse was worse than my drinking before. I nearly lost everything.

I'm now 3 weeks sober. I am in an outpatient treatment centre. This is my last chance. I know I won't come back from another relapse.

Best of luck to you 💜

Oh yes I can believe 40 bottles of vodka in two months ‐ I don't believe there would be no physical addiction at that level.

AA works for some people but it wasn't for me because of religious links, nothing wrong with that just not for me.
I nearly died after a lifetime of drinking. Thiamine and Niacin (vitamins) have saved my life and I no longer crave alcohol nor am I a nervous wreck. Heavy drinking deeply affects our ability to absorb vitamins and becomes a big cycle of drinking to calm nerves etc and the alcohol causing nerve/brain damage, it's not only the liver it affects, the liver is actually very forgiving and many people carry on heavy drinking after getting an all clear with their liver.
I take Niacin in the form of Nicotinamide (from Amazon) I took it for anxiety but it honestly has saved me. I've been a lifelong insomniac I had my first peaceful sleep that I can ever remember a few days after taking the Nicotinamide.
Depending on whether you live in England/ Wales etc there are different organizations and national women's only zoom meetings.
P.S your partner sounds like a dick

There’s also an organisation called Smart Recovery. Good luck.
