Dry January 2022

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/12/2021 09:25

Did Dry January this year and we had an amazing little support group going on here and I wondered if anyone cared to join me next year? This time I'm hoping to stay dry longer - 100 days - but will see how January goes first. I don't want to set myself up to fail.

Who's with me?

Just had half a bottle of Nozino with cheese twists. It tastes much better than I expected. I don't like AF beer and AF wines I haven't tried but this really works for me.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 09/01/2022 17:24

Day 9 check in!

Feel pretty good. I've slept a lot this dry January and feel as if I've just finally caught up with sleep today if that makes sense.

I'm stuck in the house this weekend for non dry Jan reasons, so I've been decluttering a bit and made a little seating area out of some dead space in our house, by basically shifting furniture around. It looks quite nice if I do say so myself. Much better use of space.

Probably eating a bit too much still, but that's better again today and eating a bit more normally. Think I ate an entire packet of Percy Pigs over Friday and Saturday and various other crap Blush

Iamblossom · 09/01/2022 17:35

@Willieekerslike

There is half a bottle of white wine in fridge that I could murder right now. We are having a roast dinner tonight. I'm having a mint tea but it's not the same. This is the worst bit of day for craving.
100% this. I am actually clucking. We are also having a roast and I really need dh to get on with cooking it so the craving can pass. My mouth is actually watering at the thought of a drink.

Ha ha me saying I have this nailed. I do not.

Dulsesunset · 09/01/2022 17:49

I'd LOVE a glass of wine... none in house fortunately...will be fine once dinner done.

Youngatheart00 · 09/01/2022 17:55

I’m back at work tomorrow after the festive break and could MURDER a large chilled glass of white to take the edge off. This is tough.

polkadotpjs · 09/01/2022 18:22

Yes I'm
Wobbling but not caving. I've cracked a (dreadful) AF beer (both abbreviations work here!) and it's starting to ease. It's while I was cooking and it just felt like I had somehow been naughty not being allowed wine. My hope is that I can do dry weeks after mid feb and manage with that. And actually some dry weekend nights if nothing planned.
I bought an AF wine at co op. Someone had smashed a bottle of red. I nearly licked the floor

CrumpetswithMarmite · 09/01/2022 18:38

Hang in there everyone. Try to curb the crave if you can with food or a different beverage. I found Thursday and Friday really really hard...

Hope everyone is okay

Iamblossom · 09/01/2022 18:40

Have had a becks Blue and am sipping a glass of AF white and it is definitely helping.

NorthernChinchilla · 09/01/2022 18:47

Having a AF Leffe, not too bad. Will move onto the trusty BB shortly, am cooking a roast too.
Chilled day, cleaning, tidying then bestie round for a catch up over coffee.
Will be glad to be starting the working week bright-eyed and bushy tailed!
Roll on week 2... think this somehow will be harder. Not got the novelty of the first week, nor is the end in sight. Plus I'm conducting a few million interviews in 4-6 hour blocks at anti-social times. Normally I'd really enjoy (and frankly deserve!) just the one glass after those, but never mind, will stay strong!
Anything exciting in the weeks ahead for anyone else?

AnyFucker · 09/01/2022 18:51

Been working today and like nothing more to have a glass of red to decompress. Just as well I didn’t buy any, as I would be sipping it right now.

Funnily enough, I have Baileys, port, sherry, Corona lager, rose wine and my favourite Glayva siitting looking at me (leftover/gifts from Xmas). Not really interested though.

JaquiRussell · 09/01/2022 19:03

Day 9 feeling OK. I've been reading quit lit books on kindle (lots of which are 99p for January) and Im finding it really useful in understanding cravings and how to squash them. Think of the reason you are doing this, the thing you hate most about yourself when you have been drinking. Now play that forward in your mind when you get a pang for a drink, or see an advert, walk past a pub etc. All that drink would do, if you had one (which let's be honest wouldn't just be one, would it) would lead you back to that reason you hate - be it guilt, shame, doom scrolling, sickness etc
Play it forward and remember why your doing this. Don't want to sound preachy by any means as I'm on the first day 9 as lots of you but that mantra seems to be helping me, so wanted to share if it helps you 😀

pointythings · 09/01/2022 19:05

I'm tired from my second long drive - not nearly as long but two days in a row is too much. I have a cuddly cat and that will do me.

Lushmetender · 09/01/2022 19:13

Been swimming tonight and now feeling like a glass of vino! Think it’s cos I’m hungry and thirsty and looking at nice at home meals for Valentine’s Day which come with a nice rose! But if we keep it up peeps, for those doing DJ you’ll be half way through this time next week! And we’ll stay having a whole extra 20 mins of sunlight!

dementedma · 09/01/2022 19:22

Day 9 has flown in! Tesco's Sicilian Lemon and Mint Pressé is lovely. This will be my first full week back at work so more of a challenge..plus my birthday on Friday!

H1Drangea · 09/01/2022 19:26

Managed to cook and eat a roast dinner without hankering for a glass of wine !
Who’d have thought !

SantaMonicaPier · 09/01/2022 19:39

Managed another weekend! Tried a nice gluten free AF cider yesterday, and have been enjoying lime and soda today. Well done everyone!

polkadotpjs · 09/01/2022 20:07

Can I heartily recommend NOT drinking AF red from co op. It's like a schloer smoothie, weirdly thick but bitter somehow.
Thought I'd try mulling it to try and improve it !

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 09/01/2022 20:19

Evening all. I'm currently cooking a suet pudding and custard. Took the kids out, came back, had a roast, I've done some ironing. Normally I'd 'reward' myself with wine but not tonight.

Hope everyone else has had a good Sunday. Bring on next week, when we hit double figures!

Oh, this also sounds lovely. 😋 .

AlbertBridge · 09/01/2022 20:40

DH drinks. It's at weekends mainly (Thursday to Sunday). Beer. Usually 4-5 cans. I don't mind but it's always late, starting around 10.30pm, and mostly when I'm in bed. He drinks beers and plays on the PlayStation. (He's 52.)

Is it weird that he drinks alone? It's not because I'm judgey! I don't really care. But why drink so late at night?

Iamblossom · 09/01/2022 20:43

I cannot imagine starting to drink at that hour, but I am usually in bed by 10 so...

Mybestyear · 09/01/2022 20:58

Hello everyone- commiserations to those starting back at work tomorrow - I was back last Wednesday so back on the swing of it.

Hope everyone is doing well. Today is day 9 DJ / day 14 AF for me. 2 whole weeks!!! First time in a looooooong time. Main difference this time is that it is not feeling like a punishment but more of a reward. Long may it continue.

@AnyFucker - I love Glayva but I have never met anyone else who likes it! Most people I say to about it haven’t even heard of it!

KOKO everyone ❤️💪

Ijustneedtosleep21 · 09/01/2022 21:06

Day 7 ✅ wow I have done so much this weekend. Probably too much 💤 feeling it now. But I'd have never felt motivated enough to do half the stuff I've done. I've also stuck to my 1 takeaway a week this week and usually it's 3 even 4 come Sunday some weeks. Proud of myself and keep thinking how much more I could achieve day to day if I don't drink again...

CandyLeBonBon · 09/01/2022 21:17

Wow! Day 9 almost finished already! I was so close to caving on Friday. I'm knee deep in needy angst ridden teens and an ex husband who refuses to communicate with Me so stress levels are high right now. But I resisted, road the wave of uncomfortable feelings and the urge passed. And I'm at the end of day 9 without even clocking it - AND I'm down 11.5kg since September! Keep going all you lovely people. It's very worth it. I've just signed up for the 'walk 56 miles in February' fundraiser for Refuge too!
