... DS became my son in every way that mattered, in my eyes, in his eyes and according to the laws of Kazakhstan.

Two and a half long and bureaucratic years later the UK courts finally recognised that Ds was indeed my lovely boy. He is now officially a Gherkin.

For anyone who doesn't know the story this is the photographic journey (quicker than reading the blog!) www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p=6e3cbecfaa2fc0543284d3&skin_id=601&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url

Check out my profile for todays photos - I will remove them after a short time as the judge probably isn't expecting to appear on the internet!

When the judge pronounced that she was granting the adoption order, I whispered to DS "what do you say to the Judge?" and he shouted really loudly...

"THANK YOU!"

Afterwards his legal guardian came up to me and said the judge was very moved and said in all her years as a judge she'd never been thanked by a child.

What a boy... what must I have done in a previous to get this lucky? I have decided I must have been Florence Nightinggale!

Happy day

Is anyone singing the title? Or did you not spot that...

Well done Kew, this is such a wonderful story and he's such a beautiful boy!! I've got tears in my eyes watching your video

hannahsaunt · 22/10/2009 21:04

Very many congratulations - what a fantastic day for you both. May there be many more together.

ClaireDeLoon · 22/10/2009 21:05

bumpybecky · 22/10/2009 21:13

congratulations

LittleSarah · 22/10/2009 21:48

Kewcumber, I don't think I have ever posted but I have watched your story and I absolutely love that video, was nearly in tears! What a gorgeous boy you have! I'm so happy you got your wee man.

(How did you make the video by the way? I'd love to do a growing up video for my two one day).

BecauseImWooooooooooooooorthIt · 22/10/2009 21:50

Congratulations, Kew. Goodness how time flies!

largeginandtonic · 22/10/2009 21:55

What fantastic news Kew

I am thrilled for you both.

He is just so cute.

popsycal · 22/10/2009 21:58

kewcumber - you have a seriously cute son

followed your story right fromthe start - amazing !!

wheredidmyoldlifego · 22/10/2009 22:09

Did not know of your story until now - watched the picture story and am overcome with joy for you and lovely, adorable and very lucky Daniel.

Being adopted myself, I can safely say, hand on heart, you and your family are exceptionally special.

Amazing...amazing - and so pleased for you and for Daniel.

Littlefish · 22/10/2009 22:24

Fabulous, fabulous news.

I'm so happy for your both. How like you so think of his birth mother on your special day. She is, afterall, part of this story too. I'm proud of you.

Kewcumber · 22/10/2009 22:28

kind of you to say so wheredidmylifego but I'm not being coy when I say that truly I'm the lucky one. It is the biggest priviledge of my life to be allowed to parent this amazing child. He could have been adopted by someone else and that wouldn't have done at all - no siree!

I think of her often Littlefish. In fact if I'm honest although I call her "birth mother" in public, I think of her privately as his mother without any caveats. To call her "birth" mother somehow trivialises her role in his life as something mechanical. Whereas the truth is that he is the person he was born to be whether from her or his birth father or their ancestors, my role has really been one of learning who he is and helping him to find out who he is an what his skills and talents are.

I do feel 100% his "mummy" - I have nurtured and loved him and revelled in him (and cried and shouted and torn my hair out ).
And I can;t forgot that she chose to go to a hospital to birht birth to a tiny wee scrap wihtout her family's knowledge - he would never have survived if she hadn't.

Hooray!

I've always loved your posts, Kew, ever since reading your blog avidly 3 years ago. (I had a different name then).

Congratulations to you and Daniel. I know that you are the lucky one to have him, but however modestly you deny it I know from your wit and wisdom that Daniel is also a very lucky boy to have found you.

Thank you for sharing your amazing story with us - Mumsnet is very lucky to have you too.(smile)

BrigitGraveKnicker · 22/10/2009 23:24

Very many congratulations KEW he is just perfect!

What a lovely story. [sniff]

callmeovercautious · 22/10/2009 23:41

hifi · 23/10/2009 10:24

about bloody time, huge congratulations. would he like to marry my dd? hes too lully!

Wonderstuff · 23/10/2009 10:37

Didn't know your story. In tears after watching the wonderful video
Big hugs and huge congrats
You have a very beautiful boy.

NanaNina · 23/10/2009 14:32

Just to endorse what everyone else is saying - I am tearful too! And how lovely and generous of you to feel that way about Daniel's birth mother. I am sure that will help him so much when he is old enough to understand "his story" - what is Daniel's ethnic orgin Kew- I know the video mentioned place names but my geography isn't too good!

Flower3545 · 23/10/2009 14:40

Very teary here too!

He could never have been anyones elses Kew, he was meant for you and you alone, that is glaringly obvious

swampster · 23/10/2009 14:52

Pure gorgeousness

Littlefish · 23/10/2009 18:23

I don't like you any more Kew . I read your message about Daniel's birth mother just before I left for work. I then went to work with a big red nose from the strain of trying not to blub!

Not to worry - I got told to f* off by a 6 yr old today, so that put everything into context!

Crackopenthebaileys · 23/10/2009 18:44

That video is amazing, what a lucky little boy (and you too!)

duende · 23/10/2009 18:49

congratulations, your son is gorgeous!
