Hi
I'm about to start the adoption process as a single adopter and would welcome some advice about whether or not it's possible to work from home if you're on adoption leave. I've done a bit of research and discovered that adoption agencies expect you to take a year off work in order to bond with the child, however I'm just wondering whether I can take a few months off as adoption leave and then go back to work given that I'll be working from home. Will it make any difference ? My work is quite flexible and I don't have to be constantly on my laptop during the day, I was thinking of fitting in my work hours around my child. I would appreciate any advice. thanks.

@TheOnlyHonestOne

It’s very tough isn’t it.
I got on well with my Sw (was a different one by then) by matching, but I had a dying parent (died about 8 weeks after placement) and SW basically warned me not to visit him as it was a 2hr drive away. By the time I realised he was imminently dying I did go and see him with AC (of course AC was absolutely fine in the car as I thought!) but parent was unconscious by then so didn’t get to meet AC.
Then the funeral was another issue, because I wanted to go & also wanted to stay overnight in my old family home with my family (we all still had bedrooms there)but I just trusted myself on that against SW, and again AC was fine.
I had lost a parent before so I wasn’t going to miss this parents funeral, I knew how important it was.

Im a solo parent and without AC starting some nursery a few months in, I’m not sure what state I would have been in by now.
AC absolutely loves it and it’s been amazing for AC development.
