This time last year I was about to get on a plane to Kazakhstan. I couldn't have imagined how complicated the trip would become and how difficult and how wonderful.

We are celebrating our "anniversary" tomorrow - a whole year and we both survived intact (pretty much).

I read this thread, and your blog, all the way through your time in Kazakhstan. Congratulations on the first year.

CaptainDippy · 31/10/2007 11:11

Happy Anniversary for tomorrow - Your little man is gorgeous! xx

Kewcumber · 31/10/2007 11:11

does everyone else feel (I suppose first birthday is equivalent) that it seems a celebration that against the odds you haven't broken them! In my case it seems particularly apt as he was a "gift" and I do feel a responsibility not to cock things up too badly.

Congratulations to you both! He's beautiful and it sounds as though you're doing a brilliant job.

Saturn74 · 31/10/2007 11:14

Wow, how time flies!
Congratulations to you both on your anniversary.
(And I know exactly what you mean about being amazed that you haven't broken them! )

coppertop · 31/10/2007 11:21

Wow! It only seems like 5 minutes ago that we were all following your blog and waiting for you to come back.

Happy anniversary for tomorrow.

stepfordwife · 31/10/2007 12:34

congratulations for tomorrow, kew and gherkin
yep, that first year anniversary is such an emotional one, isn't it?
as you say, thankfully you haven't broken them (but by god they break you sometimes, eh?

and you keep thinking 'this time last year..."

OozingSlashesFromTigerFeet · 31/10/2007 12:37

Good lord is it really a year

Well done for keeping him intact for all that time

He is gorgeous. (Does he still like to climb?)

LilBloodRedWantsGore · 31/10/2007 12:38

How quickly that seems to have gone! Congratulations on your anniversary

Kewcumber · 31/10/2007 12:41

still climbing Tiger, and has started the terrible two's but he's very funny with them as he takes a sneaky peek behind him before he throws himself in a strop on the floor... thats my boy!

I only joined MN half way through your adventure - but read it from start to finish!

You are doing a fabulous job and congratulations x

rosmonster · 31/10/2007 12:47

happy anniversary Kew, I seem to remember that I first met you right before you left!

And yes, ds is also doing that sneaky peek tantrum thing! Very hard not to laugh!

OozingSlashesFromTigerFeet · 31/10/2007 12:52

dd still does that occasionally @ 3.4

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 31/10/2007 12:54

Oh yes, I remember that thread very well. Happy anniversary Kew - it really has whizzed by, hasn't it.

Budabeastie · 31/10/2007 12:57

Oh wow - a whole year!

Congratulations!

(DS did the careful placing of his head upon floor before tantruming too - hysterical to watch!)

WitchesEverywhere · 31/10/2007 13:04

I lurked on your threads and loved reading your blog...can't believe it is a year already.

Have a lovely aniversary with your DS

SushiMummy · 31/10/2007 13:49

Happy anniversary QC and Gherkin-kun!

Welcome to the club (terrible two's)!

bran · 31/10/2007 13:52

Happy anniversary to you both. Does it seem like a short time ago or a very long time, or both?

Our social worker asked me at our last meeting how I thought I and my life had changed since getting ds, and I was really stumped as I can't actually remember life before ds.

Kewcumber · 31/10/2007 13:55

Bran, in some ways I can't believe its only been a year and that this will be our first Christmas at home and yet the sights and smells and feelings of one year ago are so clear to me that it could have been yesterday. One of lifes more bizarre experinces a stranger choosing the child that will be yours forever!

It has just occured to me that its Halloween (wasn't that focussed on it last year!).

Was DS trick or treat?

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 31/10/2007 13:57

someone else asked me whtehr being a motehr was how I imagined...

"No"
"Oh, how is it different?"

Stumped silence followed eloquently by...

"Dunno I can't remember"

OP posts:
Anchovy · 31/10/2007 14:03

I definitely remember that feeling when DS was one.

I looked at him sitting there eating a piece of his birthday cake, with some "mates" around him and thinking "look at the little world we have made". And all those temperature spikes and broken nights and the runny poo and the knowing absolutely nothing suddenly didn't matter any more. To be honest I was as proud of him then as I will ever be.

I think its a really good time to stop and be proud of yourself as well, and what you have achieved.

Enjoy your day!

marthaboo · 31/10/2007 14:07

Aw, is it really a whole year? Seems like a week ago Congratulations - and have a fantastic first Christmas at home together!
