Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

"All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go" - obviously I remember that but do you?

This time last year I was about to get on a plane to Kazakhstan. I couldn't have imagined how complicated the trip would become and how difficult and how wonderful.

We are celebrating our "anniversary" tomorrow - a whole year and we both survived intact (pretty much).

Happy Anniversary!

In answer to your earlier question about reaching a milestone without having broken them - yes I did feel that. The first birthday seemed like a good time to relax and realise that I wasn't ever going to drive off forgetting that the baby was still in the shopping trolley or whether Aunt Effies nasty cheap roast chicken would do for the baby's health forever. Etc!

So Kew, one year down. At this point, most parents start thinking about no. 2. What d'ya reckon, family trek to Burma?!

TheDucHearseOfCorpseBride · 31/10/2007 14:13

Nice post, Anchovy.

lionheart · 31/10/2007 14:17

Happy Anniversary--what a trip.

francagoestohollywood · 31/10/2007 14:29

does it wear off Issy? I am still pinching myself - no doubt will Ds will get to an age when he wants me to stop randomly kissing him but he seems quite happy with it at the moment.

I never realised when people used to go on about how marvellous their DC's were that THEY REALLY MEANT IT! I always thought they said what was expected of them...

Mind you by anyone's standards DS is pretty marvellous

Peachy - I'd completely forgotten about the name change!

And no thanks required, without wanting to be too sentimental about it, it has definitely been my gain...

Yes, remember it very well

Congrats!!

beemail · 31/10/2007 19:22

Re those stabs of slightly bewildered awe - -haven't worn off in my case and they are now both at secondary school!!! I still can't believe how lucky we are to have them

Congratulations KC and DS

ArmadilloDaMan · 31/10/2007 19:41

Can't believe it has been that long .

Have a great anniversary.

Kewcumber · 31/10/2007 19:59

Felt really emotional putting DS to bed tomight. Kept thinking that it is the anniversary of the last time "no-one in particular" put him to bed. The last time he didn't have one particular person just for him (if you see what I mean) and not shared. Don't get me wrong, he was well cared for and the wonderful women at the orphanage did care for him but not in that "lay down in front of an out of control lorry for him" kind of way.

Strange when I look back because, of course I didn't feel that way about him then. Can't put my finger when it happened exactly but I sometimes think that like some cultures think cameras steal your soul, in fact your children steal a part of your soul and you never quite get it all back again. Or at least not until they are hideous teenagers

Congratulations Kewcumber and your wee Gherkin on 12 months together. Only the first of many, many years.

I remember following your blog, seems like no time has passed, and yet when I was reading about you meeting your ds I was coming up for 10 months pg and my ds is one in a couple of weeks. Crazy!

bran · 31/10/2007 20:38

Do you still keep in touch with any of the other families that were in Kazakhstan with you? Are they all doing well too? I really love to hear about the people we got to know through the training course to adopt.

DrNortherner · 31/10/2007 20:43
