I mean.... wtf?

When will this knife crime bullshit end? Makes me so worried for when my eldest starts high school next year.

I saw the news saying there was an incident under way. Have you got a link please ?

CalistoNoSolo · 10/07/2023 11:41

Gloucester is as rough as but it's still shocking and unexpected. Knife crime seems to be out of control. We will need metal detectors and security guards on the entrances to all schools if it carries on like this.

Sky news, it's not confirmed this is what has happened but sounds likely.

DelilahBucket · 10/07/2023 11:47

It is in Tewkesbury not Gloucester and it is on BBC news.

It’s in Gloucestershire.

SprinkleRainbow · 10/07/2023 11:55

It's in Tewkesbury and is not a rough town by any means. Gloucester City centre may be, but it's a shocking thing to happen in our town.

DelilahBucket · 10/07/2023 11:56

Yes I know what county Tewkesbury is in, but that is not what the title says or the person commenting about how rough Gloucester is. The two towns are 11 miles apart.

CalistoNoSolo · 10/07/2023 12:00

Title says Gloucester. Tewkesbury isn't such a rough town, so if it happened there that's a lot more surprising.

toomuchlaundry · 10/07/2023 12:01

Rare as these incidents are (thank god) this is why schools have lockdown practice (have seen many threads complaining about them)

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/07/2023 12:01

I’m twenty minutes away in Worcester. Word on the street is that it is a Maths teacher. My sister lives a couple of minutes away from the school and says there is a huge police presence (obviously)

tewkesbury isn’t really comparable to central Gloucester in terms of roughness tbh

Sorry, wrong thread!!! Have reported

Tewkesbury is quite a poor run down town..... my DD lives just up the road from there and says the roads by her are gridlocked. But it's horrifying. Lots of social media being shared about parents getting an email NOT to phone the school which is pretty appalling. Surely every instinct you have is to contact them....

It's on local news that a teacher has been taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound.

Zarataralara · 10/07/2023 12:07

The “ Don’t come to the school” message is for a nearby primary and nursery which seem to be on a different site. As a precaution they’ve locked down but have said all the children are safe and well. Just a precaution until it was confirmed exactly what had happened.

calmcoco · 10/07/2023 12:09

These incidents are always extremely shocking and tragic, they remain very rare but there is no acceptable number.

I just keep hoping for a change of government to one that will again invest in crime prevention and crime prosecution. I know in our area there is very little done to prevent crimes amongst young people, if a young person is taking a knife to school that is evidence that something has gone very badly wrong.

The school can't have hundreds of parents calling in at the same time though. The communication needs to come from the school.

noblegiraffe · 10/07/2023 12:13

I hope that the teacher is ok, and that the pupils who will have seen this are properly supported.

Bluebells1970 · 10/07/2023 12:16

Initial local media reports were that a pupil had been stabbed by a teacher .... so no wonder for the panic.

Why do you think its appalling for the school to ask parents not to phone?
They clearly need the lines free to communicate with the emergency services and the parents of any children directly affected.
At best most schools have two people on reception how are they supposed for field probably thousands of calls from parents?

What do you actually expect them to do?

It really isn’t a “poor, run-down town” at all.

The school were advised by the police as to what information to release to parents, and when. How would it have helped to have hundreds of parents tying up the phone lines at a time when I’m sure they were just trying to ensure everyone was safe?

VariantHela · 10/07/2023 12:26

BBC news on twitter confirmed it was a stabbing, sorry not sure how to link

calmcoco · 10/07/2023 12:31

The school can't answer parents' calls because a) there are probably only two phones in the office and hundreds of parents and b) they have to give the same info to all at once - which they do via updates.

The last thing you want is rumours and mixed messages.

Yeah, I mean Cheltenham is in Gloucestershire ffs. Gloucestershire is not inherently “rough”.

My post was to Painte so not sure why you thought it was to you. You haven't even commented on the rest of the thread unless you've got a name change fail going on.
