How to get from London to Bristol in middle of night?

Lucylunar · 17/01/2023 23:55

Sorry brain not working very well at the moment - I might need to get short notice transport from London to Bristol overnight (tonight)) but the only train options are from Paddington to Bristol arriving 7:20am, does anyone know any other transport that runs overnight? Tried national express coaches and mega bus, both not until morning.

If anyone has any thoughts I’m missing I’d be grateful, thank you

*(Title amended by MNHQ to make it clear that the OP's trying to get from London to Bristol, not the other way round)

Taxi

You may be able to get a coach to Heathrow airport from Bristol (I think these run through the night) and then jump on the tube when you are at a terminal

surprised coaches aren’t running to Victoria coach station though? I have seen these on the motorway loads in the early hours

Sunshineandrainbow · 18/01/2023 00:00

There is a coach from Victoria at 12.30

London to Bristol or Bristol to London?
There's a train from Paddington to Temple Meads at 5.20am

Lucylunar · 18/01/2023 00:03

Sorry title is wrong, it’s FROM London TO Bristol

Good point, title says different.

Whataretheodds · 18/01/2023 00:05

Megabus from Bristol Bond St at 2.45 to Victoria coach station

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/01/2023 00:05

Megabus. I know that they go from central Bristol as well UWE and the airport.

KnickerlessParsons · 18/01/2023 00:07

Hire a car?

Hire a car?

I haven’t driven for years and not confident at all so couldn’t really drive overnight on motorway safely

Either go to one of the main airports and rent a car (they should be there overnight taking walk ins) or get a taxi. Renting would probably be cheaper but you'll need a deposit etc. I'm guessing it would be about £80 one way to Bristol. A taxi would be a couple of hundred.

Thank you, sorry it’s London to Bristol but they don’t seem to do those times in that direction

I would think a cab is your only option, unless you have a driver friend who owes you a massive favour.

Hope it's nothing too serious that has you going cross-country x

rooinspace · 18/01/2023 00:15

There’s a National Express coach from London Victoria at 00:30 to Bristol if you’re nearby and also one leaving from Heathrow at the same time

mushroom3 · 18/01/2023 00:16

If you are near Heathrow, there is a Megabus at 00.50 to Bristol

MyBabyLaura · 18/01/2023 00:19

You can get out of London at least to the edge of zone 6 on night buses, possibly need a few different ones depending on where you are. Don't know if other places run night buses. Could take a while but if you're skint it would help to lower the taxi fare

Sadly wouldn’t have made those last ones, thank you though

Look on the national express website they run through the night

CherryRipe1 · 18/01/2023 00:37

You'll need to check if there is a National Express coach from Heathrow to Bristol running o/night. There's the N9 nightbus to Heathrow central bus station from Aldwych, Piccadilly & a few other stops but it takes for ever.

MyBabyLaura · 18/01/2023 00:47

Try streetmap website, there's a plan a route feature, it'll at least tell you which night buses you need. If other places don't have night buses you might have to change your destination to the edge of zone 6

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I don’t know if I’ll need to go yet so probably I’ll be able to wait until the first train now. Really appreciate all the suggestions. My dad is unwell and I’m not sure if he’s going into hospital or not, an ambulance is coming to assess but god knows how long that will take anyway

Sorry to hear that OP
Perhaps get to Paddington ready for the first train. There used to be one at 4 something but I see it's 5 something now.

I know sleep is unlikely at a time like this but try and shake your arms about a bit to release tension - sounds mad but it's good to do that. (I speak as a veteran of parents in hospital). Or pace up and down. Camomile tea or vodka as you feel. Take care xx

AlwaysAReason · 18/01/2023 01:21

So sorry to hear about your dad OP.

Lucylunar · 18/01/2023 01:34

They think it might be mini strokes, since Thursday he’s had periods of symptoms which do sound like that. No idea of prognosis. Getting this slowly via my mum so it’s hard to understand exactly what’s happening

OP posts:
Lucylunar · 18/01/2023 01:34

I think mini stokes aren’t lethal but suggest stroke can be likely soon after? He’s in his 80s with heart problems as it is
