Incorrect Tesco Refund

Did an online grocery shop last week, they made a stupid substitution (rose wine of the same brand as the red wine that we wanted - why not a different red?) so we declined the substitution and sent the wine back. The driver beeped the wine with his little machine, we thought that would be that.

A week later the money still hadn't gone back on the card, so I used the 'contact us' email thing to explain what had happened (exactly as I did above, except with order numbers and exact decriptions of the items concerned).

Now I've had an email and they've refunded the whole shop, not just the two bottle of wine.

Do you thik that's their way of apologising for not refunding us the correct amount sooner?

What would you do?

keep it. there problem. they have messed us about so much and we got nothing, have it from me!!!! LOL

chickensaresafehere · 11/12/2009 14:10

Tesco are crap, they do not care about the welfare of the chickens (or eggs) that they sell and WILL NOT improve it.
Keep the money & enjoy!!

bellavita · 11/12/2009 15:12

Keep it!

awastingamanger · 11/12/2009 18:04

Definitely keep it.

The person who made the mistake will get in trouble. And the little contact centre person needs their job more than Tesco need that £50.

ShutUpandDrinkYourMulledWine · 11/12/2009 20:14

I would probably keep it

but I would worry about it too (default position)

Divatheshopaholic · 11/12/2009 20:18

Thanks, you just reminded me that i need to call tesco. Last week i bought shampoo and conditioner was bogof. they came one leaking i returned both, still no money refunded back.

traceybath · 11/12/2009 20:23

Keep it.

I loathe tescos. Their customer service is dreadful. I found a worm in some finest smoked haddock half way trough eating it.

I phoned and complained and they said there was nothing they could do as I hadn't kept the worm .

And in future I would recommend waitrose . Customer service fab.

And I'm normally super honest.

FabIsVeryFestive · 11/12/2009 20:24

I rang Waitrose to ask for a refund for some meat I had been charged for but not got. They apolgised and I had my refund.

Put the shopping away and found the meat.

Phoned and told them and repaid for the meat.

They thanked me for being honest and I didn't feel like a thief.

I also returned something in a shop as I had picked up 2 and been charged for one. They said to keep it for being honest.

OP - do what you can live with.

awastingamanger · 11/12/2009 21:27

Fab, those were mistakes that you'd made.

Trill would be in effect grassing on someone as the mistake was the person's who she spoke to.

FabIsVeryFestive · 12/12/2009 09:39

True but I would still have been stealing if I hadn't phoned to repay. Taking something when you know you haven't paid, is stealing. Don't pretend it is about protecting someone else.

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 12/12/2009 10:37

I would have assumed that they'd refunded the whole thing as a goodwill gesture and it wouldn't have even occurred to me that it was a mistake .

NancyDrewRocks · 20/12/2009 14:03

Maybe that was their intention?

Ocado have intentionally refunded me a whole shop when they delivered someone elses (they delivered what I had actually ordered the following day).

They also gave me 25 quid in vouchers and let me keep all the "extra shopping". Quite bizarre having someone elses food order though TBH.
