Incorrect Tesco Refund

TinselianAstra · 11/12/2009 12:40

Did an online grocery shop last week, they made a stupid substitution (rose wine of the same brand as the red wine that we wanted - why not a different red?) so we declined the substitution and sent the wine back. The driver beeped the wine with his little machine, we thought that would be that.

A week later the money still hadn't gone back on the card, so I used the 'contact us' email thing to explain what had happened (exactly as I did above, except with order numbers and exact decriptions of the items concerned).

Now I've had an email and they've refunded the whole shop, not just the two bottle of wine.

Do you thik that's their way of apologising for not refunding us the correct amount sooner?

What would you do?

wow, hope it was a big shop!

i would be tempted to say nothing and keep the cash, only because i hate Tesco (because they are trying to take over the world, and their cocktail sausages are shite) and they probably wouldnt miss it

Any other time i would fess up though and i beleive in karma and would want it come back and bite me

TinselianAstra · 11/12/2009 12:48

I wonder how many time other people have seen their unwanted item scanned and thought 'that's sorted then'. I'm sure most people don't look at their internet banking as often as I do.

True, and i dont think Tesco know the meaning of the word 'moral' so keep it, you are far more needing of that money than they are

although i'm sure someone will be along soon with more morals than me and tell you to give it back

i might start doing my shopping online with them now, and send back all the substitues

TinselianAstra · 11/12/2009 13:01

What would yooooooou do?

Claire2301 · 11/12/2009 13:02

I would keep it- Tesco are a big company and your shop is not going to hurt anyone! They shouldn't make errors like this in the first place!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 11/12/2009 13:04

Well, someone will cone on this thread and say it's stealing but I think I'd have to keep quiet tbh and pretend I hadn't noticed. I have no morals

I wouldn't have noticed straightaway anyway because I don't check my bank balance (too scared) as regularly as that.

I think i'd wait a little while and see if they contact you... I wouldn't have noticed this i don't think.

BitOfFun · 11/12/2009 13:06

I would never have noticed, and got ripped off in the first place.

Swings and roundabouts- about time someone was given the chance to shaft them back, I say.

TinselianAstra · 11/12/2009 13:07

£50 Reality.

Note to everyone: if you send back a substitution make sure you get the money!

Thief!

VinegarTinselTits · 11/12/2009 13:08

If they query it, act dumb, say you didnt notice, it could their christmas present to you for being a loyal shopper

VinegarTinselTits · 11/12/2009 13:09

squeezy

SqueezinAroundTheXmasTree · 11/12/2009 13:10

Just kidding. I'd do the same but would would probably be looking behind my back for weeks due to the old karma thing.

This once happened to us.....we were undercharged by £600 on something and didn't notice till we'd left the shop and were in the car. They called us and asked us to confirm it'd be ok to put the deficit on the card we paid with and that was that so even if they do notice, you'd be willing to sort it out I assume.

TinselianAstra · 11/12/2009 13:11

Email titled 'customer refund' so I thought 'good, they've sorted that out then' and moved on with my life, seeing as how I'd already spent time having to chase them.

foxinsocks · 11/12/2009 13:12

I'd call them up and tell them.

I can never bear the thought of someone being punished for making a mistake like this

confuseddoiordonti · 11/12/2009 13:17

Keep it! You'd be bonkers not to!

Says she with no morals...

If they discovered someone had made a mistake and decided to tell them off then they would also presumably tell me and ask for the money.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 11/12/2009 13:27

well maybe they meant to give it to you

I still wouldn't feel happy accepting it without checking. I wouldn't keep £50 I found on the pavement either tbh.

foxinsocks · 11/12/2009 13:33

(and ps wouldn't judge you for keeping it, just wouldn't do it myself and am well aware I am horribly honest about things like this!)

they should pick it up really, when they reconcile their tills

hellsbelles · 11/12/2009 13:59

Trills - you know what a boring old fart I am by now...I would tell them as I get so paranoid about things like that! you never know - they might say keep it for being so honest

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 11/12/2009 14:02

I would keep it and hope they get sub something else next time

naughtyameliajayne · 11/12/2009 14:05

keep it, no brainer mate!!

jemart · 11/12/2009 14:06
