I now dream I am harvesting!!

And I have set my alarm for when certain harvests are ready.

I think I need help.

alwayslookingforanswers · 02/12/2009 22:22

I plan my harvesting around what I'm doing to get maximum number of harvests a day.

So for example I don't go to bed until at least 12.30 - harvested some blueberries at 10, could (as I have to be up in the morning so they won't wither) have planted some Ghost chillies, but decided instead to do a field of raspberries and then do Ghost Chillie just before bed - and they'll still be ready in the morning

simpson · 02/12/2009 22:37

LOl at withdrawal help group

I also plant crops around what I am doing for the day.

However I tend to do 3 or 4 days hardcore FV then max out so do a couple of longer crops to give myself a break for a few days

Just about to harvest blueberries and plant cranberries overnight.

alwayslookingforanswers · 02/12/2009 22:38

I'm thinking of hammering some of the shorter crops now, so that when I start my next OU course in Feb I only have to worry about harvesting etc once a day........

simpson · 02/12/2009 22:54

good idea

I tend to hammer shorter crops in week and weekend when out for longer periods do longer crops iyswim.

What OU coursse are you doing??

alwayslookingforanswers · 02/12/2009 22:57

doing K204 - working with children and families. It's my 2nd course I'll have done with them - first Level 2 course though.

Mind I'm still waiting to see if I passed the exam for my first one - should know by the 18th December.

simpson · 02/12/2009 23:06

fingers X for you.

I really want to start studying when DD starts nursery in the mornings in a yrs time.

Gives me time to think about what I want to study

alwayslookingforanswers · 02/12/2009 23:07

I started my first course (60 pointer Level 1) when DS3 was just under 2yrs old and I was a single parent to 3

simpson · 02/12/2009 23:09

so thats like me starting now (although single parent to 2) as DD is 2 in Jan.

How did you do it!!!

I could not contemplate it now tbh and I have 2 DCs.

alwayslookingforanswers · 02/12/2009 23:13

it wasn't that bad actually - I studied in the evenings. DS's were 8,5 and 22 months when I started.

There were single parents on my course who were working full time AND studying

simpson · 03/12/2009 08:07

WOW how did they do it

I would be sooooo tired

Niecie · 03/12/2009 15:03

IME of the OU, it doesn't matter much whether you are working with no children or whether you have children, you can still only study in the evenings. Difference is whether you get time at the weekend - that is where lone parents lose out unless the children can go to their other parent and then you can make up that time if you are organised enough(not my strong suite although I am not a single parent so thankfully I haven't been tested!)

I have to say I haven't noticed much difference between studying with children and studying without them.

Not long until the results ALFA - they usually come earlier than you think. Sometime towards the end of next week I shall alternate obsessively checking my farms with obsessively checking my emails and OU account!

And I have a TMA due on 16th Dec. Yuck!

alwayslookingforanswers · 03/12/2009 15:26

Niecie - yes they did say at our revision day in Sept that often the results are available online from the start of December onwards - and I suspect it's rather like the TMA's - they "appear" on the website before you get the email.

God I hope I've passed - I had such a horrendous 5 weeks leading up to the exam where I never even picked up an OU boook

Niecie · 03/12/2009 15:58

I had forgotten about the results until you mentioned them again. Knowing my luck, because I didn't like my course, I have probably failed and will have to resit in April when I have an exam for my current course too.

I remember you saying just before the exam what a terrible time you have had. If it is any consolation, I have done what I thought were terrible exams, come away in tears because I literally ran out of time on one and ended up doing the 4th essay in one exam in note form in about 15 minutes instead of 45. I ran out of time because was so wound up at the beginning I spent the first 15 minutes shaking and trying not to bolt from the room - don't think I wrote a word. Then I started another essay, got 10 minutes in and realised my brain had emptied of every fact I every knew about the subject and spent too long trying to dredge up something sensible to say. I still got a 2(i) on that paper and I was so relieved I cried when I got the result!

They are not aiming to fail you so even if you wrote something remotely coherent you will pass, maybe not well but that doesn't matter with a level 1 course anyway. They don't have to count towards the final degree grade I am almost certain.

However, you have scared me - I didn't realise it could be as early as the beginning of the month. I thought next week at the earliest.

sweetkitty · 03/12/2009 16:03

Got my soya bean mastery last night and my rice this morning, so happy about the rice I hate harvesting rice.

Now onto grapes and pumpkins

alwayslookingforanswers · 03/12/2009 16:17

Niece - she did say start of the month was unlikely - but she had known it that early - mines not in yet.

Apparently you either get a pass, or a pass with distinction (or something like that) - so average score of 40-79%=Pass 80%+ the higher one. No "graded" passes apart from those 2 with the level 1 (or at least this one).

I@m hoping I've passed - I did write 3 "whole essays, did mange to mention bits from the course in at least one of them - but nothing concrete - hopefully enough to pass - if I got 40% in the exam I'll be happy - any more and it'll be a bonus .

Well done Sweetkitty - I'll get my level 2 Lavender on Saturday morning.

Will be moving up to level 28 on CL very soon

alwayslookingforanswers · 03/12/2009 16:18

oh and "only" need another 150k to get my last expansion on CL as well.

simpson · 03/12/2009 16:45

should get mastery sign for pink roses in 2 days time

Only 11,000 blueberries to harvest

Niecie · 03/12/2009 17:30

Finally got my first star for raspberries. Only 2000 of them but being a 2 hour crop is a big disadvantage. Probably wasted more than I harvested!

Went up to level 33 today which I know isn't that exciting compared to some but since i spent the last week concentrating on raspberries for which there are no XP I am pleased.

Also up to level 20 on CL. Am wondering where it is all leading if there are no more crops to be had. How are they going to keep our interest?

simpson · 03/12/2009 17:40

neicie - was just wondering that re CL.

I should hit level 20 (or is it 19 ) tom...

Stretch · 03/12/2009 18:38

I need 1 more friend on CL to be able to expand, somebody take pity on me please..

flier · 03/12/2009 18:47

I'll add you stretch, not sure who who you are though, but I think I have you as a friend on FV? any clues?

Stretch · 03/12/2009 19:22

I have a b&w photo of dd1 sticking out her tongue!! Initials SJ.

alwayslookingforanswers · 04/12/2009 09:20

ooooooooo exciting stuff on CL - was busy making cheese and kethcup and I got a "gate updated refresh" message.

So I have..................

AND a Jam Maker has appeared in Gear

Which (having just purchased one) uses the fruit from the treees (well at least it's just put apples in)

alwayslookingforanswers · 04/12/2009 09:21

although I may have been a little hasty buying it when it was first released as it's now not doing anything
