Gift for elderly lady, aimed at keeping her warm

MrAlyakhin · Today 06:46

It's my mum's birthday soon. She is always under dressed for the winter so she is always cold and I want to get her presents that keep her warm. I know she should wear more clothes but for whatever reason she doesn't. She's in her 80s so it's unlikely to change.

She has a heated blanket which we bought her a few years back and she does use it a lot. She also has an electric blanket for her bed. I've bought her gloves but I want more things to keep her warm at home.

I was wondering about a house coat but it would need to be 'stylish' if that's possible.

Has anyone found anything worth getting?

Uniqlo HeatTech thermal tops

The uniqlo heat tech range of thermals is very good. Nice thin soft base layers, they feel like nothing to put on but somehow they keep you much warmer!

We got some of the Turtle Doves cashmere wrist warmers for my MIL and she loves them - wears them around the house a lot.

We keep a thick fleece blanket each in the lounge so it’s quick and easy to throw over your legs etc, and elderly FIL has the same.

Fingerless gloves for at home- I’ve heard that Turtle gloves are very warm.

Thermal vests - I have some t-shirt style ones from Sainsbury’s which are very warm, and I’ve heard that Uniqlo’s are good too.

Another vote for Turtle Doves. I even bought myself a pair for extended computer work

I bought my mother some velour trousers to wear instead of the thinner type she usually has, she now has a few pairs as she liked them so much. They were from M&S, look smart enough if someone calls round but much warmer than her usual style.

This is one of the most useful things I own.

How about a heated cover for her chair?
Heat from below and above with her heated blanket.
Health and Care sell them.

Or a heated cushion.

Also, don't know how warm her house is but I love infrared panel heaters. They warm objects (including people) rather than the space. They give off a lovely warmth. Best place for them is the ceiling but they can be wall mounted or freestanding too.
Take a look at Warm4less website. They can be expensive but they are reasonably priced on this site. I have one and love it!

I keep getting adverts for heated ponchos. Don’t know if they are any good

My mum has a heated gilet which she loves. We bought it for her to wear on days out but she often wears it in the house too.

I bought one of their cuddly dressing gowns last year. They have some very nice patterns.

My dmil also wears a fleece gilet to help her keep warm.

A poncho would be a good shout also.

The marks and Spencer Heat Gen long sleeved tops are good. I wear them under jumpers for a warm base layer.

My dd bought my mum (82) a knitted ‘co-ord’ or whatever they are called from Next kids last year. She wears it in the house and she loves it, she’s always saying how warm it is.
