9pm was my bedtime until about 13, when bedtime was cancelled. My friends went to bed at 7, at some point that became 10. They still had the 10 when I got to choose my bedtime. I got up at 7. I think what I am trying to say is she might be mature enough to take choose her bedtime soon.

My 12 year old boy is in bed 9-9.30 (he lays in bed with us thought watching tv from about 8). Then up at 7.

Sounds good. Both my kids start to head upstairs at 9pm but probably aren’t asleep until 9.30-9.45pm. Up at around 7.15am.

I think it all depends on your own circumstances, does she struggle to get up in the morning without that amount of sleep, does she think her bedtime is too early or are you comparing it to what other people are doing? Personally I would say do what works for you, if she is happy and it works then don't worry about what anyone else is doing.

My kids (12 and 15) go upstairs around 8pm, asleep by 9pm. Wake up 06:45 for school. They seem to need 10 hrs sleep.

Age 11 and 13, aim to go up around 8.45/9.00pm. Asleep by 9.30, up at 7.00/7.15. Slightly later at weekends but lots of clubs and sports.

Mine gets up at 6.45 and bedtime is the same. She does take a while to fall asleep though. Usually about 9.30 but sometimes still awake when we go up, 10 or 10.30.

I think it's quite important why you're asking. If she is happy with this then fine. If she is asking to stay down for an extra half hour I think that's a very reasonable request, and I would say yes to it. Or a whole extra hour, maybe on a trial basis or in the holidays.

On School nights, my 11 year old goes upstairs around 8.30 (earlier if she’s having a bath), has 30 minutes chill time, then gets into PJs, brushes teeth etc, and is in bed by 9.30 (she’s a bit of a faffer so can take ages to get ready for bed). She’s up at 7am for school.

I have been thinking about whether to make it later, but she’s been very tired since starting secondary school and seems to need more sleep!

Sounds perfect. My 12 year old's bedtime is 9pm, which is when we go upstairs (washing, changing to pyjamas etc is done earlier and then he's allowed some free time). Sometimes he will fall almost straight to sleep, other times he will be awake far longer. He listens to an audio book to fall asleep usually as he doesn't like silence. I can definitely tell when he has had a late night or been awake in the night when I try and get him up in the morning!
At weekends he has no set bed time, but usually chooses to go to bed between 9 and 11 and then gets up again between 7 and 9.
There's definitely plenty of people his age that are up far past that time though as his tutor chat keeps buzzing until gone midnight most nights. Luckily I keep his phone with me overnight so it doesn't disturb him.
