And how he, and Jonathon Ross, behaved towards Andrew Sachs, and his granddaughter, was despicable.

Seems like a big fat set up to me. Like there has been so much wrongdoing amongst celebrities and they just had to convict someone to make it look like something was being done. He was an easy target because of his vast sexual history.

Obviously I wasn't there for the trial so maybe I'd feel differently after hearing it all. But as it stands I don't think he's guilty. Not that my opinion means anything to anyone besides me so not sure why I'm being name called.

If it was a set up, why was he found not guilty on some counts?

Alucard55 · Today 15:29

@IronEverything if it was a big fat set up do you think the women were lying?

MagpiesAndJays · Today 15:29

When a jury of 8 men and only 4 women find a man guilty of rape, any shred of doubt over his guilt I might have had vanishes.

His barrister also needs locking up for this. He claimed Brand was respectful when women said no and that being “rude or acting like a crazy idiot” during sex is not a crime if there is consent.

In his closing speech on Monday, the barrister also questioned why Brand’s accusers had not screamed, kicked out or slapped Brand when they were raped. “Not one of them resisted or screamed or even tried to leave,” he said.

His job may be to defend the indefensible but use of this, where a rapist creates terror in his victims and then says they didn't resist. Victim blaming 101.

Bandsis · Today 15:18

He wasn't found guilty on all counts, so the jury did think some allegations were false?

I don't, but it's interesting that he could be found guilty of some and not others.

Nope. It means that the jury didn't think there was sufficient evidence to find him guilty beyond reasonable doubt on some of the counts.

OffWith · Today 15:31

I had my drink spiked when I was 19.

I woke up at home covered in blood, wearing a hospital gown and with a random american man's passport in my handbag, with no recollection of anything past arriving at the bar completely sober.

I was a state when I went to police station. Security cameras saw me being led out of the bar, shoved into a car, then one hell of a commotion that led to me being thrown out of the car shortly down the road (luckily it turns out I am a vicious fighter when drugged). An ambulance took me to hopsital to stitch me up and sort out my breathing (depressed due to the date rape drug used). I then apparently ran out of the hopsital to my house.

Anyway, the point is that before the police had managed to put any of that timeline together, I had to go through the rape kit as no one knew what had happened.

It was humiliating. I hope they are better now but I would never do one again. Standing naked and shivering as a stern woman took photos and the two male police officers were joking around and laughing behind the screen. Thankfully I was fine, but I don't think I would have had the backbone to go to court even if it was worse.

I seriously doubt these women, who had not met before, simultaneously decided to go through this whole process for a jape.

I don't, but it's interesting that he could be found guilty of some and not others.

They were given very specific guidelines by the judge to follow and the allegations were from a while back, so it’s entirely possible that they believed the accuser but felt the evidence wasn’t there, for example.

SheilaFentiman · Today 15:31

@Bandsis if I am caught on CCTV in a shop stealing three watches and the shop is missing four watches, a jury might very well think that I definitely stole three and probably stole the fourth too, but they don't have all the evidence that they want on the fourth count.

Phrootbaht · Today 15:31

Oh what excellent news.
And with fireworks tonight and Trump having had his arse kicked at the American midterms, it’s been a good week so far. 🥳

Honestly if you're media stream is sending you videos that lets you think that this man was innocent, you need to get off social media.Something has gone very wrong with your algorithms. You will be a prime target for being swept up into bullshit like anti Vaxxer stuff; Reform propoganda etc. It might not have happened yet, but it will do as the algorithm's consensus that you're probably quite susceptible to believing rubbish.
I am not saying this to be a bitch, but i'm saying this because I have seen this happen firsthand and working in an industry that understands how the algorithms work.

Yes. Also see: Johnny Depp.

Some women just can't help themselves can they

LumberPainJackie · Today 15:34

What a relief. It may take decades but the truth will come out. This should serve as a deterrent to men who think they can just get away with SA and rapes because of the terribly bias systems in place and under funding. If you have spent your younger years being a prize wazzock who thinks women are there to be abused without reprimand, you will get what is due just when your time is your biggest asset. Your kids will know.

“Obviously I wasn’t there for the trial . . .”

🤦‍♀️. So based on what exactly? Your admitted complete lack of knowledge of any of the evidence or legal arguments- or is it just a “feeling”???

I absolutely despair sometimes.

DaisyMayBojangles · Today 15:35

A very close friend of mine had a brief dalliance with him in 2000/1. Whilst she never said he did anything untoward, she did say he was a very odd man and ‘frantic’

Honestly, this shows such a lack of critical thinking, "they just had to convict someone" so the random jury just HAD to convict someone did they? And they choose poor innocent Russell Brand? Get a grip. There's summaries of the women's testimonies in court and they are not pretty to listen to.

You do understand surely that the CPS doesn’t bring a case to trial on “vibes”? There has to be sufficient evidence to suggest a convictions is not only appropriate but highly likely.
