Boring and crap as usual. Haven't been good in more than a decade. Why is there always this big fanfare for the John Lewis Christmas advert?

Emperor’s New Clothes Syndrome. Such a hoo-har about naff all. Even the lunchtime news on ITV featured it. I don't know ANYone who cares. 🙄

I like the toy dog. My DC had one...I wonder what happened to it? Children are badly behaved brats.

Man I would kill for their marketing budget

It looks like they spent it all on Kristin Scott Thomas and saved none for the creative team.

She was right to lock her study door, what parents let their kids make such a mess?!

I don’t understand it and was distracted throughout by the fillers/botox on the face of the actress - I know I’ll be in the minority saying that (and being judgy) but I don’t like they are trying to normalise that unnatural look.

Kristen Scott Thomas is 66. The pull along toy dog came out in 1966, when she would have been 6 years old. Wouldn’t she have been too old for it? Thought the pull along dogs were aimed at toddlers?!

My DD had one as a toddler. She’s 42.

I think its an absolutely awful ad with a terrible message

Offherrockingchair · Today 15:18

Well, it’s generated a discussion but I find it crass. Do better would be my advice.

Not the first time that tune has been an ad but at least it was the stones version then. I had to stop it because it was irritating me so much.

Some of the past John Lewis adverts have been great and I thought last year's one with the teen boy purchasing his dad a dance record was quite sweet and thoughtful. There have been quite a few that I haven't really understood though, like the guy on the moon. I know they like to pull the heartstrings but this one just seems sad with no resolution. The kids act happy but it doesn't land because we know in the real world the kids (as they've been depicted) would be "wtf gran?". The set-up doesn't fit the pay off.

My favourite JL xmas advert was the one where the kid is counting down to Christmas impatiently and you think it's because he's waiting for his presents but on xmas morning he ignores his presents and runs to get the one he's been counting down to giving to his parents, showing the joy of giving rather than receiving. Really sweet.
