If you had to choose to live your day today every day or die, what would you choose?

Very random and slightly dark question! But I was just on a packed, late train thinking that if I had a choice to either live my day today every day for the rest of my natural life or die immediately, I’d definitely choose the latter. Was in work all day, feeling unwell then delayed trains home. Kids are away so haven’t seen them.

Nothing too terrible, just not a day I’d want to repeat! How about you?

Quite an uneventful day but I would rather repeat it than die.

Interesting question!

Hope you are home and starting to feel better.

Minasama · 28/10/2026 19:44

Today was really nice, very standard kind of day with work from home, breakfast with husband, dinner with kids. I’d happily repeat it!

I hope tomorrow is a bit better OP!

From 1-9 it’s been a slog at work but my morning was gorgeous with my two little boys just revelling in the magic of Christmas at the local garden centre, would happily live it over and over again

Erin1975 · 28/10/2026 19:46

I had a great day. Met a new customer for the first time and am now on the way home. I'd do it again.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/10/2026 19:46

Having something to look forward to makes us happy. So it's death for me.

GameOfJones · 28/10/2026 19:46

I'd definitely repeat today. I'm off work this week with DDs for half term. We mooched around the charity shops, went out for lunch, a play in the park and I've had a catch up with a friend.

Nothing major but a pleasant, chilled kind of day.

FatBottomGirlz · 28/10/2026 19:47

hope you’re feeling better now you’re home. It can help to focus on the positives by naming three things you’re grateful for today etc. always some little sparkles in the darkness

Do we not make that choice every day? Inaction by not making a different choice of continuing as usual is still a choice. There’s always good and bad days.

Bufftailed · 28/10/2026 19:48

Did some work, chatted to my son, messaged family and friends, walked my dog. Slept v well last night. I’m in the good old days. Would happily repeat forever.

Sandsnake · 28/10/2026 19:49

Thanks for the good wishes but I’m fine! Just a very meh day that I’m glad is over, which got me thinking that weird thought…

I would choose death.

Interesting question. In the book series On The Calculation Of Volume, the main character keeps reliving the same day. However, she doesn’t have to do the same things and, in the story, she is away from home so can vary her day without it impacting her husband. She doesn’t have children.

The film Groundhog Day is similar. The same day but freedom to vary your actions.

I would like to know if you have free will to vary your day. E.g, call in sick and have a more fulfilling day or, whether you’d be jerked through an exact repetition, puppet like, or whether you’d repeat it but be completely unaware, or whether you’d repeat it with a massive sense of Déjà vu

AralVorkosigan · 28/10/2026 19:50

So repeat the same basic framework of the day but with free will/ability to change some stuff? Or just act out the same set of motions again like a puppet?

I’d live today again, it’s been a lovely day!

My brother who lives in Wales (I’m in Scotland) came to visit with my 2 lovely nephews, my dd2 popped in with her 6 week old baby who smiled at me, my ds dropped his car off and came in for some baby love too, then everyone headed home/to hotel so I had some lovely peace and quiet, had a great chat on the phone with my dad, and then Dh came home with wine!

im disabled and not too mobile but everyone coming to me was excellent. Only thing missing was dd1 who is in bed with a horrible cold and didn’t want to give it to anyone, especially baby, so that’s the thing I’d change!

lemoncurdcupcake · 28/10/2026 19:52

Oo I hope your day gets better even this late in the game!

Today could have gone either way, we've travelled 200miles in the car with 3 children aged 0-7. But it was actually lovely, lots of giggles, good snacks, minimal traffic, some roadtrip games and podcasts, lovely autumnal scenery, the baby slept. I'd be happy to relive it again.

Though I wonder how many days I could spend on the M1 before I'd change my mind 🤣

JaneJeffer · 28/10/2026 19:57

Today was not a good day. The future thing I had to deal with today could be avoided by repeating today over and over so that it doesn’t happen but yeah maybe I’ll choose death instead.

I have had a good day. A successful court hearing, some good chat, a nice dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. However it was somewhat stressful, I have barely seen my dog and I haven’t seen or spoken to anyone I love. So no, I wouldn’t want that on repeat for the rest of my life. The only thing that might sway me was knowing my son thought I was fine instead of dead. It would be torture though.

I hope tomorrow is better for you OP.

Boreded · 28/10/2026 20:00

I would repeat it over and over, presuming I can choose what I do after the working day is over. And also I could change my interactions with people so I didn’t have the same conversations over and over

Xmasbaby11 · 28/10/2026 20:03

Repeat. I've been wfh today but with my teen dc at home for half term, so I've seen them a fair amount, and also had a short walk and coffee out.

I'd probably choose to relive any day with my children over dying tbh.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 28/10/2026 20:03

As I’m on a beach in the afternoon sun, with the occasional dip in some lovely warm water to cool down, after a very pleasant lunch I’d happily spend the rest of my life repeating today. Although I think even I might find a limit to how much relaxing I would want to do as time goes by!

TeenToTwenties · 28/10/2026 20:04

I've actually had quite a nice day.
Not sure I want to see SIX every night for the rest of my life though!

Backedoffhackedoff · 28/10/2026 20:04

Die. I’ve got a virus and couldn’t live like this everyday 😂

DustyMaiden · 28/10/2026 20:06

Stayed in bed until brunch. DH made. Danced in the kitchen 10000 steps. Watched a ghost story on iPad. Baked a cake then stew and dumplings for DH a salad for me. Adult DC where in touch and two DGDs . Not a bad day but not sure about living it groundhog style.

Gettingbysomehow · 28/10/2026 20:07

Im not sure I could sit in the hairdressers for 4 hours everyday for the rest of my life. I suppose I could try every kind of outlandish cut and colour there is if that's allowed.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 28/10/2026 20:10

If I could vary it a bit I'd choose today. I had a lie in, got my hair done, did grocery shopping, cooked dinner, had an online tutorial. Chatted to kids who are also off

Daffodilsearch · 28/10/2026 20:11

I'd definitely repeat today again. Nothing exciting but nota bad day - hoovering, tidying after decorating, exercises at home, bike ride, meeting DH's family for lunch, reading, now chilling watching TV

Having said that, now retired so have been there, done that - I'm free.
