Help me feel better and tell me your stupid / embarrassing moments at work.

I did something really stupid / embarrassing and I have no idea why I did it and now I'm panicking.

I've moved to a new team at work. I worked closely with some of the team members so know most of them already. Manager in new team is very laid back, funny, and you can always have a laugh with him.

The other night, I had a really X rated dream about him. No idea why as I don't even find him attractive. 🙄 Next day I avoided him, just spoke briefly if I needed to as the images of the night before kept popping into my head. I just needed a bit of distance for a short while.

He noticed this and approached me privately asking what was up and had he done/ said anything to upset me. I didn't want to gaslight him and confirmed that I was avoiding him and it was absolutely nothing he had done and I was okay. I just needed some space and I'd be fine in a few days.

This then made him think that it was absolutely something he'd said. He admitted he can take the piss with people with banter and to just tell him if he'd gone too far as he wanted me to feel comfortable in the team and approach him if I ever needed help in the future etc. ( It's an all male team with lots of banter etc ).

I ended up telling him, obviously didn't go into detail and he initially was taken aback and then found it funny. He was smiling all day.😯

I'm now panicking he'll tell the rest of the team. I told him not to and I think he won't but I don't know if he will.

I feel so stupid for being honest and should have just lied. Why didn't I just tell him I was feeling off or something.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that has done something so embarrassing at work!

Yeah it was pretty stupid to be fair.

You could've just been your professional self and continued as normal.

TokyoSushi · 26/10/2026 17:37

You really should have just carried on as normal… 😬

RelievedNoYouTubeMum · 26/10/2026 17:41

You should have kept that to yourself OP.

When I was a newly qualified midwife the bag of IV fluid I was trying to run kept setting the pump alarm off. Another midwife told me to change the line. I didnt use my brain and pulled the line out of the bag where it promptly dropped half a litre of fluids all over me and the floor. My brain then kicked in and I realised you had to take down the bag and tip it the other way BEFORE pulling out the line.

That is an embarrassing story. Yours is a bit of an attention seek that went wrong I think.

Charlenedickens · 26/10/2026 17:43

Wow, this is something, why on earth would you tell your manager you were having sex dreams about him and only want him to know and not the others,

do you fancy him?

LintRollers · 26/10/2026 17:44

This is the second 'Please tell me your embarrassing work stories' thread today.

The first was a revolting one about farting.

Yes, it feels like attention seeking, avoiding him so he notices them tell him you’re fantasising about him, but hoping he doesn’t tell others what you’re up to.

FatterthanBarbie · 26/10/2026 17:52

omg - it absolutely was not attention seeking behaviour but can understand how it can look like that.

To all the armchair psychologists out there, yes, I think I do have a soft spot for him but never really properly fancied him iyswim. Maybe my subconscious is telling me otherwise.

well, We're both single so if he was even remotely interested in me, which is highly doubtful, I guess I have sowed the seed of the idea!

You shouldn’t have posted this on a mainly female site op, none of us will fall for the ooos silly me line,

are you just excited as you’ve done it and think he’s now fhinking of you that way, thats what you’re hoping rhe smile was about.

But you've made yourself come across as rather weird, which will be offputting I expect.

malloryknox123 · 26/10/2026 21:09

Good heavens couldn’t you just have put it out of your mind? This happens to everybody!

why did you need space from him, it wasn’t his fault! That’s like divorcing your DH because his horoscope says he’ll meet his soulmate today

titchy · 26/10/2026 21:12

Sure you did OP sure you did Hmm

Lookatheskies · 26/10/2026 21:30

For avoidance of doubt OP, getting in a romantic liaison with someone you work with is generally a bad idea.

Hohofortherobbers · 26/10/2026 21:35

So he obviously now thinks you want an affair with him, was that your aim? He could complain harrasment, I would if someone at work said that to me

Good grief how old are you. No op that’s not the way to get someone.its weird and creepy,

it was very clear that was your plan and you’re hoping he will be interested and excited about your silly plan

larouxsauce · 26/10/2026 23:10

Distancing yourself from someone because you had a mucky dream about them is unnecessary. It was just a dream. I’ve had some bizarre and disturbing dreams in the past, once i’ve woken up they are gone and I go about my day like normal. I don’t know why you made an issue out of it.

Telling him was really quite ludicrous. It does sound like you were trying to flirt or start something with him. I’m sure he will tell other people but it will blow over.

behindtheanimalhouse · 27/10/2026 02:47

This is actually sexual harassment, be careful OP. Hopefully he won't report it.

Topseyt123 · 27/10/2026 03:03

What a ridiculous thing to tell him about! You could have just said you hadn't slept well the night before so were tired and needing alone time, surely.

Dreamerinme · 27/10/2026 03:24

How old are you? You are either young and very naive to think this was a good move, or you’re deliberately trying to be coy with him. Either way, grow up and remember this is your workplace and such conversations have no place there.

seventeenofsumday · 27/10/2026 14:56

You've just pretty much said in your later post that you do fancy him and about planting the seed etc. It was obviously your plan to get him to ask you whats wrong in the first place so you felt like you 'had' to confess about the dirty dream. Are you 16 or something 🤔 🤣

Wishimaywishimight · 27/10/2026 15:15

Even telling a manager you "needed space" from them was utterly daft. As for 'sharing your dream about him! You need to remember a manager, no matter how 'laid back', is not your friend. Keep things professional.

Phrootbaht · 27/10/2026 15:35

What a ridiculous unprofessional way to behave. You deserve to feel embarrassed.

seventeenofsumday · 27/10/2026 15:48

You absolutely didnt mean for this to happen did you OP, you poor thing 😔

Oh dear. In his shoes I would tell someone. I blab far more than I should. If he does then the whole team will know within an hour. The only thing to do is act as if the conversation never happened. They are unlikely to mention it directly. If they hint ignore it as if you have no idea what they are referring to. If they do bring it up openly, just say you have sex dreams about all of them. On rotation. Every night. That should shut it down.
