Who else absolutely LOVES the rain?

Is it just me, or does anyone else love the rain? For me, there’s something amazing about waking up on a weekend to rain coming down in sheets, the fire lit, pyjamas staying on, and something warm and carb-heavy suddenly feeling essential. Then there’s the joy of being out in it. Wrapping up, getting out my new coat and feeling alive with the rain on my face and the smell of wet pavements or damp grass... Coming home feels so much cosier afterwards. I’m sure I’ve read that there’s some science behind why certain people find rain so comforting. Anyone?

Nope. I appreciate rain from a gardeners perspective. I like watching the rain from a cosy holiday cottage with a great view and a log fire. I love rain when it’s been stupidly hot and it brings cooling refreshment and everything smells great.

On a gloomy day in the UK in October during half term I very much dislike it. If I have to go out in it to do chores etc I hate it.

After the sort of summer we’ve had (outer SW London) I’ve been so pleased to see some proper heavy rain at last.
And when I went out after it had largely stopped the other day, there was that wonderful fresh, rainy smell - the first time for many months! 🌧️❤️

Smallestshadow · 26/10/2026 12:11

No I hate it, especially combined with wind. I recognise we obviously need it but I would not miss it if I lived somewhere dry. The worst bit is commuting by car with wind/rain/dark - makes the roads/motorways very dangerous. Also limits massively what you can do with kids or even as adults.

Abracadabra12345 · 26/10/2026 12:13

Yes I feel the same as you OP and also with the pp: I live in Greater London and after the drought and heatwaves, rain is wonderful!

BananaSpIit · 26/10/2026 12:14

i love rain

GasPanic · 26/10/2026 12:15

No it causes damage and damp to buildings that cost money to repair - roofs, gutterings etc. Stops you putting the washing out.

Makes the sky grey and dull. Makes it more difficult and dangerous to drive.

Hampers people working outside in their jobs.

Causes flooding and potential damage to peoples properties, some people in flood zones are on tenterhooks all the while storms are forecast.

It is necessary and some of it is OK. But days and weeks of it is not great.

DaisyChain505 · 26/10/2026 12:17

I love it when I’m at home. It makes me want to cook a roast, put on some fresh pjs and light a candle but if I have to go about day to day life walking the dog, running errands etc then I’m not a fan.

Rain. Lovely breeze. Dark at 5pm. Magical.

peckishcats · 26/10/2026 12:21

After the summer we had (and speaking as a keen gardener), the rain is a blessed relief.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 26/10/2026 12:22

I like seasons which have their appropriate weather. By which I mean this time of year with the leaves turning and nature preparing for a period of hibernation I feel all the things you describe in your OP and I hope the seasons don’t ever merge into either hot, wet, or even sunny all the time. I also feel that enjoying rain is a privilege for those not forced to drive in it or deliver parcels, fix power lines etc.

Yes and the dark! I am odd in that I also like the dark evenings... 😱

Depends! Week after week after week of it is very depressing. I love a reasonably regular good, soft, soaking rain every for the plants and a vigorous downpour to wash our town's streets of the summer glaze of sticky filth.

NotNowMadam · 26/10/2026 12:28

I used to hate it when the kids were small because it meant being stuck indoors doing baking and 'crafts' ugh.

But now they're older, I absolutely love cosy rainy days. I don't mind being out in the rain either. It's fun when you don't have two whining toddlers with you.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/10/2026 12:31

I’ve lived in 2 Middle Eastern deserts, and still remember some very unusual rain when I was in the middle of one of my regular EFL classes - largely early 20s men.
They all charged outside and ran around or danced in it! They called it ‘God’s bounty’.

Livingthebestlife · 26/10/2026 12:40

I really hate it, I actually hate rain, wind, cold, it is really depressing. The sky is so dull, the buildings are a miserable dull grey. The garden looks a mess even having tidied it. Going out even with decent rain gear it's just a horrible feeling having the wind blast in your face, eyes watering and makeup half down your face, when you can't hold up an umbrella you use a hood and end up looking like you belong to some cult, then because you have proper rain gear, you're sweating and your hair goes frizzy. Cars splashing you thinking it's hilarious and then dark nights 😔 They're just the worst.

Luckyingame · 26/10/2026 12:42

I bloody well hate it. Spoils my life for days.
Wet spectacles, wet clothes, car, dirt, mud ...
I suppose I'm on the other side of the weather spectrum.

Not if you live in eg Largs

zoeslim · 26/10/2026 13:39

Love the rain hate 30 degrees plus heat

Empress13 · 26/10/2026 13:44

Nope I hate what it does to my hair I end up a frizzy mess ! That being said I do like walking my dog in the rain (not torrential obvs) and love listening to it snuggled up in bed

highlandponymummy · 26/10/2026 13:46

I don't mind it when I'm nice and cosy at home. Not so keen when mucking out and trying to fill haynets in it.

BotoxOrPuffins · 26/10/2026 13:49

After the summer we have had, absolutely yes! Rain, cold, grey, wind, I love all of it! Wrapping up on layers and cosy clothes, totally enjoyable now. I spent all of summer with a sweaty face and my skin got so bad. It's totally cleared up now. Also loving not having to put on so much sunscreen on arms, legs etc. I missed hot drinks and am enjoying that too. Totally changed my perspective on the seasons now.

HoldMyWine · 26/10/2026 13:52

No I hate it. I hate being stuck indoors. It isn’t healthy to live in wet conditions. It’s depressing.

daffodilandtulip · 26/10/2026 13:56

You can’t beat a picnic in the sun; but I do love a rainy walk.

Yeh but I don’t 🤷‍♀️

MildlyAnnoyed · 26/10/2026 15:17

I like it. I don’t like the wind & rain together though.
