Amy Winehouse - just thinking about her today

Just watching her on BBC 2

So sad that shes gone, what a talent, what a representation of North London

Introducing my dd to her tonight, as I cant believe I haven't already! She does not care and wants 'pit za' but still

So many of todays acts reference her in their style and one woman I follow on Tiktok speaks exactly like her

RIP Amy, you cool woman. 🩷

Ahh its 20 years since Back to Black! 🩷

Another thing I massively admired about her is how self-effacing she was, and still remained, even after all of her many huge successes.
The sad thing, however, was that she constantly doubted herself. Watching her meet Tony Bennett made me feel so sad when she said said first off she couldn't sing with him and kept apologising for "letting him down." 😢

Edited

I remember that

Gosh i'm really sad tonight, what an amazing woman taken from us

I absolutely loved her music but I remember at the time it was like a slow motion car crash with all the performances where she was really unwell. Was devastated but not surprised by her death. An absolute waste and tragedy.

It's actually worse now seeing how healthy she looked up to 2006 even and then so different a year later. And it took me aback how young she was, she was a few years younger than me but that only really strikes me now.

@TheImpOfThePerverse2026 it was his radio show on a Saturday morning. he was trying to belittle her. She must have been wearing those little slipper like pumps that she was fond of. He said something like “look at your shoes .. what are you gonna do if it rains ?” In a tone that meant she was piece of fluff who was more vain than practical
She just said “get in a car” flatly. In a tone of voice that said “can’t you come up with anything better than that?

It made Him look stupid when he was trying to make Her look stupid. It made me notice her, before I’d even heard her voice.
She just sounded cool.

I remember her being quite deadpan and understand it

The sheer number of people who work on telly who just enjoy 'mugging people off' honestly

She was a genius songwriter and didn’t deserve the heart attack that killed her.

She wasn’t on drugs before she died.

Just Wikipediad it

Her brother was right imo she was weak due to the bullemia which meant the alcohol took her 🥺

I've proper depressed myself tonight omg 😄😄

I think Caroline Flack was the death that hit me hardest - I was so poorly having just had dd, and was suicidal 😬. I felt like I completely understood her and it really shook me.

God, life is tough isnt it

I can’t believe she died 15 years ago.

I saw Lily Allen live this year and I was reminded of that era of absolutely fucking fantastic female talent in the UK in the 2000s. Amy, Lily, Florence, Goldfrapp, Kate Nash. Such a special time.

Oh the nostalgia! 💜

There are so many more fantastic young female artists now though. The ones on stage at The Roundhouse only a fraction of them and they were all incredible. It was nice that the crowd were so young too. Amy had a huge influence in her short life which seems to have passed down to Gen Z as well.

MidnightMeltdown · 24/10/2026 23:28

Loved Amy Winehouse. She was older than me, so at the time, I didn’t fully appreciate how incredibly young she was to die. Went for my cervical screening recently and thought about Jade Goody who died at the same age.

My friend went to a small jazz club in the 90s, in Soho. Usual acts, people chatting, drinking, bit of jazz in the background, Said this little girl walks on stage, beehive bigger than her, they all chuckle a bit, then, little girl started to sing. Friend said you could hear a pin drop. Yep, of course it was the irreplaceable Amy, May she rest in peace, the voice of an angel.

Oh bless her, yes voice of an angel 🥺

@Puppylucky it Jonathan Ross IS a creep. Just ask Andrew Sachs’ granddaughter.

So yeah, I might be a bit biased.

I heard him being a creep and Amy putting him in his place. You think if Jonathan Ross hadn’t had her on she wouldn’t have made it big?

Ucouldntmakeitupdear · 24/10/2026 23:33

Have just been watching it. She was so talented and very intelligent. She really was a beautiful soul.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 24/10/2026 23:55

On a lighter note, her backing dancers/singers are fabulous!

I don’t think there are “so many more” fantastic British female artists now than then tbh. I love Dua Lipa and Raye, but can’t think of any others that really excite me.

RampantIvy · 25/10/2026 07:07

I think Olivia Dean has a fantastic voice.

Yope · 25/10/2026 08:01

I honestly never knew that she used to be absolutely beautiful. Wow, she used to be stunning.

Just because you can't think of them doesn't mean they don't exist. There were several I hadn't heard of on the Roundhouse concert stage, and several more great young female solo artists I could name, and I'm not even the right generation to have my finger on the new music pulse.

I think he supported her in her early career. If you know Amy's story the album Frank didn't sell particularly well and she wasn't getting a huge amount of interest although it was well reviewed. Who knows if she would still have been given the chance to make Back to Black without the extra visibility people like Jonathan Ross gave her. And yes I know all about Andrew Sachs grand daughter I'm just so bored of blanket condemnation of people and a willful misreading of intentions. Did you ever hear the way Simon Amstel spoke to Amy? Was he a creep as well?

I saw an early interview of her the other day and forgot that she used to look like that. Very depressing what drink and drugs do

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 25/10/2026 12:26

I met her in a pub in Camden once. Just before back to black. She was absolutely delightful and incredibly tiny.

Spidey66 · 25/10/2026 14:08

I miss Amy Winehouse. Her talent, looks (before the alcohol and drugs took over), her humour and the fact she spoke just like me (Norf London girl).

I really wished she’d said ‘yes, yes, yes’ to the rehab. The world would be a much better place if she had.

She was high all the time.

Sadly I am friends with an addict. He’s a relatively new friend and before I met him, I couldn’t imagine someone being high all the time, but he is (every day from around 4pm (when he wakes up)).

You're not high when you're a heroin addict you need it to be normal. If you don't have it you'll be violently sick. Your tolerance goes up really quickly. Especially someone like her where money was no object.
