Just watching her on BBC 2

So sad that shes gone, what a talent, what a representation of North London

Introducing my dd to her tonight, as I cant believe I haven't already! She does not care and wants 'pit za' but still

So many of todays acts reference her in their style and one woman I follow on Tiktok speaks exactly like her

RIP Amy, you cool woman. 🩷

Ahh its 20 years since Back to Black! 🩷

I agree - watching it too.
Such a natural and raw musical talent ❤️

hotmumshit · 24/10/2026 21:16

I’m watching too. I was a big fan, saw her live in Brixton and she was incredible. Her death affected me more than any other celebrity, such a tragedy.

TheImpOfThePerverse2026 · 24/10/2026 21:29

2011 she died. She was totally unique

TennisWithDeborah · 24/10/2026 21:33

Insane level of talent. Charisma in bucketloads.

I reckon she’s the type who in middle-age would’ve helped young artists achieve their potential, too.

AllThingsAmy · 24/10/2026 21:34

A complete tragedy. Such an incredible talent. The person I always think about is her mum, Janice. She seemed to be in such a difficult position. Dad going off to see his girlfriend and the family knowing about it.

I think very little of him. A deeply flawed, selfish man.

RIP Amy.

TheImpOfThePerverse2026 · 24/10/2026 21:36

What a waste of a talent. And that twat of an ex 🤬

AllThingsAmy · 24/10/2026 21:37

Another memory I have - apart from her voice, which touched the soul ‘Love is a Losing Game’ can’t listen to it without tears, is her putting the utter creep that is Jonathan Ross in his place when he was trying to flirt with her as a 40+ year old..
I think she was 18.

I don't remember that 😳

My friend went to a small jazz club in the 90s, in Soho. Usual acts, people chatting, drinking, bit of jazz in the background, Said this little girl walks on stage, beehive bigger than her, they all chuckle a bit, then, little girl started to sing. Friend said you could hear a pin drop. Yep, of course it was the irreplaceable Amy, May she rest in peace, the voice of an angel.

Goldenbear · 24/10/2026 22:34

Yes, I agree, a real representation of 00s North London. The soulful voice that seemed to capture the disappointments of love of someone way beyond her years. A real loss.

FunPartyIdeas · 24/10/2026 22:34

Another thing I massively admired about her is how self-effacing she was, and still remained, even after all of her many huge successes.
The sad thing, however, was that she constantly doubted herself. Watching her meet Tony Bennett made me feel so sad when she said said first off she couldn't sing with him and kept apologising for "letting him down." 😢

fashionqueen0123 · 24/10/2026 22:36

Was just telling my eldest about her the other day. So sad.

AllThingsAmy · 24/10/2026 22:51

@TheImpOfThePerverse2026 it was his radio show on a Saturday morning. he was trying to belittle her. She must have been wearing those little slipper like pumps that she was fond of. He said something like “look at your shoes .. what are you gonna do if it rains ?” In a tone that meant she was piece of fluff who was more vain than practical
She just said “get in a car” flatly. In a tone of voice that said “can’t you come up with anything better than that?

It made Him look stupid when he was trying to make Her look stupid. It made me notice her, before I’d even heard her voice.
She just sounded cool.

She didn’t have the beehive until mid 00s and was already famous. She did like to still perform at Jazz After Dark though. Lucky friend to see her there

RampantIvy · 24/10/2026 22:59

Such talent. She made it look so effortless to sing.

So sad.

This is rubbish. Jonathan Ross was the first person to have her on TV on his chat show when she released Frank - so a couple of years before. She was sweet and cheeky and he was very kind and respectful of her . He was a big fan and not a creep to her What you heard was banter .

Crushed23 · 24/10/2026 23:06

I can’t believe she died 15 years ago.

I saw Lily Allen live this year and I was reminded of that era of absolutely fucking fantastic female talent in the UK in the 2000s. Amy, Lily, Florence, Goldfrapp, Kate Nash. Such a special time.

Oh the nostalgia! 💜

hotmumshit · 24/10/2026 23:07

Was she high at her Glastonbury 07 performance, where shes wearing the green tank top? X

I've been watching this tonight. That last performance of Back to Black they just showed (in the black sequinned dress) was uncomfortable to watch. So sad.

But those women who sang at the Roundhouse tribute were all formidable singers. (The only one missing was birthday girl Raye).

RIP Amy ❤️

queenofthewild · 24/10/2026 23:11

Beautiful voice, but seeing footage this week highlights how tiny and fragile she became so quickly.

i wonder if she would still be with us if Back to Black hadn’t been as successful as it was. If she has been less successful her father and husband wouldn’t have worked her into the ground when she was so clearly unwell and out of control.

She was high all the time.

Sadly I am friends with an addict. He’s a relatively new friend and before I met him, I couldn’t imagine someone being high all the time, but he is (every day from around 4pm (when he wakes up)).

CraftyNavySeal · 24/10/2026 23:12

I was watching and taken aback by how young she was!

I was 15 when she was singing Back to Black and I always saw this wise woman, now I’m nearly 35 and I feel even older watching her.

God I can see her ribs bless her

Such a sad thing

Sorry about your friend - has he been an addict for a long time? I can imagine you learn to function after a while
