Its windy and scary outside and there's talk of a power cut 🌚🕯

My back door just blew open! It's now locked and I'm running a bubble bath

Liverpool52 · 24/10/2026 19:52

Yes. Found three leaks in my attic earlier in the week and three broken roof tiles. Roofer coming next week so just praying for no more broken tiles and leaks otherwise I'll be heading out tomorrow to get more buckets.

Midlands. Very windy, plant pots strewn across the yard. Am alone, be glad when the wind abates, cope better with just the rain.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 24/10/2026 19:57

It hasn't been too bad in my patch of North Wales (just wind and rain), but it has been enough to deter me from doing the gardening. I was really hoping to get on with that, given that it's my weekend off work! Even one of the dogs doesn't want to go out, and keeps lurking in the porch while giving me pleading looks whenever I send them out for a loo break.

I've just finished a book, and my evening plans stretch no further than food, drinks, reading, knitting and perhaps a documentary if I can find an interesting one to watch.

No, I have a dog that keeps looking at me, as if it’s all my fault and I need to fix it right now.

It was supposed to be the other way round.

This is when I love living in Brighton: 2nd / 3rd night of rainy storms and just got home from a rammed pub full of people determined to party through the rain!

I love a storm ! (when I'm inside the house!) ⛈️

Just home from David Lloyd, had a lovely swim in the outdoor pool ,nobody else in it,it was a bit wet and windy,so a fair few leaves in it,but I have swam in way worse.

I am in Staffordshire.

I’m on my own on the south coast with my dogs . I don’t like being surrounded by tall trees and in the middle of nowhere so no buildings to buffer the wind . It’s not scary yet but is loud and very very wet

St0rmF0rce · 24/10/2026 20:22

I'm also in a far flung corner of the UK, on the coast. It is wild here and we've not even reached the start of the amber warning yet.

FettleOfKish · 24/10/2026 20:22

Home from holiday today, just me and DS as DH is staying on for work for another week. Jersey had the worst of it yesterday but it’s still awful tonight. Our flight landing was pretty spicy.

Our home was badly damaged in a storm two years ago and I carry some post-traumatic stress around storms from that but thankfully we’ve moved since to a ground floor place with thick granite walls so I’m feeling physically safer but still wish DH was here. Everything in our garden is all over the place but there was no way I could go out and sort it in the driving rain and howling wind tonight with a toddler in tow so it’ll have to wait. I’m having a glass of wine and catching up on the Traitors I’ve missed while I was away, and hoping a long day and a short nap sees DS sleep a bit longer and off-set the clock change.

Taytocrisps · 24/10/2026 20:29

I'm alone (apart from two cats) but storms don't bother me much. It would be a nuisance if the power went, but hopefully that won't happen.

Bosabosa · 24/10/2026 20:37

Home alone but have my headphones on listening to podcasts, eating soup and about to decorate my shoebox for the Christmas appeal for families in need. Focusing on other people always helps me not worry!!

North east coast (England). On the breezy side! Hope you have an OK night OP. When I lived in the highlands, I quite enjoyed post-storm power cuts, especially when the road was closed too. Cuts often lasted 2-3 days. No mobile signal, no landlines, no power...can't go anywhere as the road is closed... which meant a couple of days of long walks, cooking tea on the log burner and then down to the pub, which had a generator. Nice! (I was in my 20s then, I appreciate it's not so much fun if you're vulnerable).

CandidLurker · 24/10/2026 20:45

In the NW. I hate high winds as house backs on to a wood with absolutely huge trees which would definitely hit the house if they fell. If I move again I will be buying somewhere with no large trees nearby. Am drinking whisky.

truffleruffle · 24/10/2026 20:50

We are cosy, wood-burner on Watching Netflix with a glass of wine. Just outside Glasgow the wind is blowing a hooley.
Hope everyone is safe. Oh and candles burning so if we have a power cut we have light.

DJSteves · 24/10/2026 21:28

We are staying on the 35th floor of The Shard. (Special birthday) it is blowing a gale up here

zebrapig · 24/10/2026 21:38

We’re in North Devon. The wind has been blowing the rain sideways all day. Had a power-cut for about 30mins earlier, but luckily we have the wood burner and a couple of torches. It’s making the WiFi really patchy which is quite annoying.
