Its windy and scary outside and there's talk of a power cut 🌚🕯

I'm on a coach in the middle of nowhere with a 7 year old and our dog. It's all a bit American Werewolf.

Skybluecoat · 24/10/2026 18:34

Where are you (roughly)

I am in alone on south coast. It’s very noisily windy but not scary at the moment.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/10/2026 18:36

I am alone in SW London, windy and wet.

Lindy2 · 24/10/2026 18:36

Where are you? Do you have neighbours nearby?

It's raining a lot where I am but we're not expected to have very strong winds.

Storms can often sound worse than they are. Hopefully you've got some candles. Make sure you've got a hot water bottle and have had some hot food while you've still got power.

I'm in one of the furthest flung reaches of our dear island unfortunately and it is WILD. My biggest fear is my sash window around the back. If something smashes through it, then what do I do??

As usual here in North Yorkshire we’ve missed any of the excitable weather. I hope you all stay safe. In safe, damage-free situations, a good wind storm can be relaxing. I just hope the elderly & vulnerable are ok and warm enough :(

IndiaFeatherstone · 24/10/2026 18:51

Lancashire and it’s blowing a hoolie. I’m glad I’m inside with the stove lit

CharlotteStreetW1 · 24/10/2026 18:55

It's pretty breezy out there and I'm on my own at the moment. DH is flying in from Frankfurt. I imagine he's having a fairly bumpy ride! 😬

Its nice hearing your experiences. Storms are weird, they're scary but in a strange way they remind of that we are human and just part of something bigger. It feels strangely good for some massive force to just take control in a way.
Went for a walk earlier and at one point I had to turn back as I swung a left and ended up in a wind tunnel, was being swept across the road. Fucking terrifying! 😅
I am very glad for my fat boi lamps, got em charged up just in case.

Not much of a storm here. Just a bit of rain.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 24/10/2026 18:56

Also Lancashire. Huddled under a heated blanket with DH watching the football. It’s howling.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/10/2026 18:57

Just had dinner so if the lights go off can grope my way to bed with a full tum.

I bloody love that film!

Just rain in Manchester. I hope everyone stays safe. If you are a drinker do what Angela Rayner does and open a nice bottle of wine. On a cold evening I like hot chocolate as my go to drink. Followed by crisps and chocolate.

I have a nice bottle of wine, funnily enough. I also have a steamed pud with custard but it's not quite cold enough for that, so cheese and bikkies it is.

Stay off the moors

I'm in Gloucestershire. It's blowing a hooley out there and pouring with rain ☔. Glad I'm indoors under a heated blanket watching the telly. Stay safe everyone.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/10/2026 19:21

Cripes, have looked at the Met rainfall chart. Looks like a year's worth tonight.

Specialneedsnightmare · 24/10/2026 19:22

Yes i am. I've got 80s hits blasting out on the tv to shut out the storm noise.

larouxsauce · 24/10/2026 19:24

Not alone but i do get anxious in storms. Always worry about damage to the house etc. Luckily we are all home safe now, ds was out in it earlier and i was worrying. It’s not raining too much now but very windy. We are midlands.

Beware the moon! 🌙

dermalermalurd · 24/10/2026 19:24

North Yorkshire, not much going on here. Windy / rainy nothing ferocious.

TheChosenTwo · 24/10/2026 19:26

Currently home alone but down south, windy and horrendously rainy but not really scary storm territory.
Dh and ds are on their way home, should be here about 8 and then a takeaway is being ordered. Got the fire going and just about to find something to watch, had a bath already so lovely and warm and comfortable and mostly just very grateful that I’m not out in it!

op regarding your sash window, I think I’ve seen before that people stick something like parcel tape in a big cross shape so if it breaks it doesn’t all fall in - not sure if that’s any help!! Or if you have any big cardboard to hand tape that up inside it - it’s a bit of protection, might be better than nothing.

Stay safe everyone.

Aliencrispsandolives · 24/10/2026 19:47

We were hit hard yesterday. I lit candles and read my book.

charlieandyou · 24/10/2026 19:49

Just me and the two little ones tonight, it's wild out there so I've shut the curtains and made it all cosy with candles while I watch a movie.
We back onto woodland quite closely and I'm always on edge that we might end up with a tree through the roof when it's this wild.
