Center Parcs worry!

StarPixels · 23/10/2026 15:53

We’re off to Center Parcs Whinfell in a couple of weeks and I’m suddenly getting quite a lot of health anxiety.

Keep reading things about norovirus / d + v bugs and I’m really panicking. Just looking for some people’s experience? Seems every post I read says they’ve had a nasty bug after a trip 🫣

We will be 6 adults, & a 3 year old (my little boy)

I've been twice, son was 1 the first time and 2 the second time. Both times he caught a cold, probably from the softplay, no big deal as no temperature or anything. He also came back with something fungal on his leg which I assume was from swimming or the bath at the lodge. Both times my husband has ended up poorly in the spare room for at least a day with vomiting.

I'd still go again but I'd take some cleaning spray, antibac wipes, hand soap and wash hands thoroughly before eating anywhere. Unfortunately I don't think the lodges get a very long clean between stays. One family may wear their shoes inside and then you may have a toddler playing and eating snacks on the same floor a day later with no mopping in between.

This is unusual.

You've clearly been very unlucky.

Thank you for the comments on this. I struggle a lot with these things - I get too much in my own head! It’s been really reassuring to read people’s experiences & some really good advice 😊

Take your own food and pack a bottle of lube.

Keep up with covid style handwashing etc and you'll be fine.

This really made me laugh! 😆

Sadly I picked up and verruca on my last trip and husband had a trigonometry

Boots do an anti-viral hand foam. It helps prevent noroviruus, most hand gels don't. I use it religiously on any holiday and it really helps. It's also not alcoholic so doesn't ruin your hands.

The DC know the regime, they get a squirt of foam every time they've been to the toilet (they also know not to touch door handles in public toilets) and they get more before eating anything or if they've been anywhere like a softplay.

I also take Milton wipes and wipe down tables in restaurants before we eat if they're plastic topped. I once saw a show, I think it was Kim and Aggy? That showed that restaurant tables are covered in e.coli and all kinds of bugs.

We go at least once a year and have the last 15 years or so. Never been ill, nor have the extended family (renting a few chalets) in all that time. Hope that helps, and hopefully the homs is fun.

There are some good books on overcoming health anxiety if you're interested. Can get second hand for 3-4 pounds.

I just wanted to say thank you for the suggestion of the books - off the back of your comment I’ve actually started listening to an audio book on health anxiety & I’ve genuinely found it really helpful already 😊

We’ve been every year for like 10 years and never gotten ill!

CarbonelKitten · 25/10/2026 21:07

We've been going for about 25 years now, never been ill. I think we even went around covid time and were all fine.

swapsicles · 25/10/2026 21:19

I've been going since it opened and was only ill this last time, it ruined the last day but just one of those things really, I will up my hygiene next time as didn't take any sanitizer.
I'm presuming noro but could possibly be food poisoning or the spa,
I'll never know but with so many people and a lot of children in close proximity stuff is easily spread.

BettysMum2 · 25/10/2026 21:37

We’ve been loads and never had a problem. It feels so outdoorsy that it’s probably the best option for a holiday. Just practice good hand hygiene but honestly I wouldn’t worry about it at Cp.

Catsbumface1 · 25/10/2026 21:43

Think about how many people come and think about the amount of stuff online and you will find out that less than a fraction have gotten ill

Theirs a thing called hand soap and it came out of my arse yesterday

TheFormerMrsTruelove · 26/10/2026 02:02

We go every year and the only time I’ve ever been ill was when I ate an undercooked chicken burger from the sports bar (which I will never do again).

We always put plates, glasses and cutlery through the dish washer when we get there, just in case anyone’s put a bowl out for the animals and not washed it properly, but other than that, you’re just as likely to pick it up walking through a supermarket. Also, people complain about things that go wrong. The vast, vast majority just go home and get on with their lives, completely healthily. You’ll be fine.

Nofeckingway · 26/10/2026 02:08

I thought you were worried about having to have bum sex at Center Parcs . But someone has already helpfully advised you to bring lube .

We’ve been loads of times and never been ill!

Us too.

Don't waste any more time worrying OP and enjoy your holiday.

Why is Centerparcs any more risky than any other holiday park?

(That's a genuine question, not a challenge, by the way!)

Because it's full of families who bring different germs from all over the country, all doing activities at close quarters.
