Center Parcs worry!

StarPixels · 23/10/2026 15:53

We’re off to Center Parcs Whinfell in a couple of weeks and I’m suddenly getting quite a lot of health anxiety.

Keep reading things about norovirus / d + v bugs and I’m really panicking. Just looking for some people’s experience? Seems every post I read says they’ve had a nasty bug after a trip 🫣

We will be 6 adults, & a 3 year old (my little boy)

We go to Center Parcs multiple times a year and I’ve been going since I was a child. I haven’t visited Whinfell since last January but I have never had a bug from any trip to any CP park in my lifetime, nor has anyone I’ve travelled with.

As with anything when there’s lots of people, make sure you’re washing your hands after using the loo etc and if you’re nervous take some hand sanitiser. Keep an eye on your kids in the pool to make sure they aren’t drinking the pool water.

In all likelihood you’ll be fine!

CapitanSandy · 23/10/2026 16:03

We’ve been lots of times and never been ill. Hope you have a nice time!

cbbo · 23/10/2026 16:06

I’ve been 4 times in 3 years and always had a fantastic experience, no bugs!

Its self catering! Just take your own food and clean up after yourself. I can't see what you need to worry about at all.

mynameiscalypso · 23/10/2026 16:24

I was a bit concerned about this too, particularly as the swimming pools are just heaving with kids and I’m sure are a breeding ground for all sorts of things, especially this time of year. The one we went to had some swimming rapids which went outside and so we mainly stuck to those. We also booked a lot of outdoor activities. The food was generic chain food which was okay and I didn’t worry particularly there.

DwellerOfWeebleHouse · 23/10/2026 16:43

We have been to CP pretty much every year for over 20 years. My eldest was a toddler when we started. None of us has been ill and we went swimming every day.

We have always used wipes to wipe the table where a child would be putting their hands and we all clean our hands before eating any food. We get Clinell wipes from Amazon. We still do this as adults wherever we are eating.

CherryKerry · 23/10/2026 16:44

Take your own food and pack a bottle of lube.

Keep up with covid style handwashing etc and you'll be fine.

TheKindnessProject · 23/10/2026 16:46

We go at least once a year and have the last 15 years or so. Never been ill, nor have the extended family (renting a few chalets) in all that time. Hope that helps, and hopefully the homs is fun.

There are some good books on overcoming health anxiety if you're interested. Can get second hand for 3-4 pounds.

questiontime1234 · 23/10/2026 17:21

We actually did get norovirus a few years ago at Centerparcs. There wasn't much we could do about it, we're just as likely to get it from one of the kids, a supermarket trolley etc. I have leftover zofran from pregnancy and bring it on trips like this and it is an absolute lifesaver. I'd recommend this tbh

AQuietBatPerson · 23/10/2026 17:39

We had a lovely time yesterday / my husband is severely immuno compromised after a recent major organ transplant, and he, and the rest of us, were all fine..

Fleabagpeabag · 23/10/2026 17:40

Watch your knees and elbows on the rapids!

FillerTrackOnTheAlbumOfLife · 23/10/2026 17:48

Why is Centerparcs any more risky than any other holiday park?

(That's a genuine question, not a challenge, by the way!)

MyKindHiker · 23/10/2026 17:51

I’ve been loads and never got ill. Never met anyone who has been ill from there either. You must be looking at sites where people go specifically to complain

PineappleCoconut · 23/10/2026 18:02

I’d take earplugs/earband for the pool.
Love the pool at Whinfell, more than any of the others, but one of us has always had an ear infection :(

Lube?? 😂 Do you mean hand gel?

If a mumsnetter is going to centreparks she'll be needing lube alright😉

I have mild emetophobia (I say mild because it doesn't affect me as much as it used to do).
We're going to CP next week and I've not really given it a second thought. Been loads and never got ill.

Thing is you can't really do anything. Keep your hands washed, that's about it. My child could have brought home norovirus from school at any point, any day. There's no point worrying about it because you can't control it. You could stay home, but then you're denying your kids a good time.

No, I definitely meant lube 😉

I've been twice, son was 1 the first time and 2 the second time. Both times he caught a cold, probably from the softplay, no big deal as no temperature or anything. He also came back with something fungal on his leg which I assume was from swimming or the bath at the lodge. Both times my husband has ended up poorly in the spare room for at least a day with vomiting.

I'd still go again but I'd take some cleaning spray, antibac wipes, hand soap and wash hands thoroughly before eating anywhere. Unfortunately I don't think the lodges get a very long clean between stays. One family may wear their shoes inside and then you may have a toddler playing and eating snacks on the same floor a day later with no mopping in between.

Iizzyb · 24/10/2026 07:28

Been going every year for 10 years never been ill. DS hates going anywhere but CP at Whinfell is different it’s almost his second home.

The ‘rapids’ aren’t very rapid that’s one of Whinfell’s attractions for us - good for a pair of softies 😂

also top tip - the real Santa is at CP Whinfell until the big day so if the DC are the right age for it and you go at the right time do pay him a visit 🎅🏻

Greenspaceskeepmecalm · 24/10/2026 07:39

We go every year and have never picked up a bug/sickness there.

I’m sure you will have a fab time!

Lube? It’s not that kind of holiday place 🤣🤣🤣
