Lottery Winning Houses

Controversial opinion, but I actually wouldn't move house if I won the lottery - not even the Euros or Powerball. I love our house, although it does need an extensive amount of work so my winnings would come in handy there. But day to day we don't actually need anywhere bigger, and we love where we are.

But, I would buy other 'holiday' houses. I'm unsure on abroad locations yet, and would spend the first year or two exploring and seeing if I liked anywhere enough to buy anywhere and return regularly.

In the UK I'd like somewhere big enough to host family celebrations and comfortably sleep and entertain 25-30 people. The house is probably more important than the location here.

I'd also like somewhere in Cornwall, near the sea but am unsure on size or exact location.

Depending on the size of the win I'd also buy a central London flat, preferably within walking distance of Covent Garden and with a roof terrace or good sized balcony. 2-3 bedrooms.

What would you pick? Anyone else also choosing to stay in their current house?

Summer seems easy enough, but what are your go to winter destinations in the UK? Even with a lottery win you might not always want to go abroad, sometimes you might want a quiet weekend with the dog and an open fire, windy walks and the local pub.

I have a fantasy house I've been planning for a few years that I'd have built. Probably along the south coast somewhere. Set within a Japanese garden.

Definitely have a flat in London, area would depend on where the main house was as I think I want it within walking distance of whichever train station I'd come into.

Don't think I'd want any other houses as would prefer hotels and house rentals for variety. Might try and get a place on The World live on cruise ship, but would need to try it (and some other cruises) out first.

depends how much I won. If enough to have these houses and pay someone to basically run them for me/ deal with the maintenance and hassle then yeah I’d buy a London pad and maybe something in the alps. But otherwise it’s just more roofs to leak, more toilets to break and more electrics to fuse and those things are still a hassle until you get into the “many millions” territory.

@GarlicEverything. I love the sound of your 2 bed with balcony in Zone 1.
Could we do an annual swap in the summer? I come up to London to visit all the exhibitions and drink wine on your balcony. You come down to Dorset, swim in the sea and sit under my apple trees amongst the donkeys with a cream tea.

Deal?

It's a deal, @DorsetKnobBiscuit!

I wouldn’t move either I don’t think, but I will be building a big 2 storey extension at the side and probably extend out the back as well. Will do up my garden. Buy lovely new cars and also buy a few properties abroad. Will also have employer a cleaner and chef lol. Oh one can dream lol
