7 days until payday - how much spending money do you have in your bank?

PeeledOranges · 21/10/2026 15:46

I have £9.66 to cover the next 7 days. I can manage, I have some food in which I can eke out and I can cook and make do. I walk to work so no travel costs. All my bills are paid but there are definitely no extras happening this weekend.

It just feels a bit miserable even though I am trying to be positive. A trip to the library, some tv, knitting and a robust walk Sunday and Saturday will help.

I work full time, single parent to adult children, youngest is unemployed and lives with me, other one is at uni.

Anyone else?

About £40 till Monday. I’m pissed off because I thought I had over £100 but I bought some groceries earlier today and I thought I’d paid for it on my debit card but it was actually my credit card (they’re almost identical, cheers NatWest 👍).

I did have a Grand this morning but just given both daughters £200 each for a big food shop. Both have 3 kids at home.... eldest daughter works but single parent and her three boys are 21 19 and 18. Eldest works ..even with his ASD and contributes.. other two ASD and at college.. youngest daughter disabled with 3 ASD kids under 12.. l will always help whenever l can.. many years ago when l was a single parent.. l worked part time but in them days you were only allowed to earn £10 per week if you were on benefits anything above that was taken off you. I was a dinner lady earning £15 so £5 was taken off me.. you couldn't claim maintenance either.. because it exceeded your benefit allowance.. what the government said was enough for one adult and two children to live off... l remember having no gas and electric and heating beans/ soup up on a camping stove.. having with bread and butter.. making nappies out of old towels.....all 3 of us sleeping in my bed to keep to warm... l wish you all the best and hope things look up for you.

£12 until payday tomorrow but I've had to put some petrol on my credit card to tide me over.

You are a wonderful Mum and have lived through tough times yourself. I wish all of your family the very best.💛

nothing until I get paid UC next week
My work wages pay my rent and council tax and water

id never be able to survive without UC

and even then it’s a struggle

i never go on holiday, I am widowed so no maintenance .

Even if I increased my hours, UC would adjust and I’d be no better off, just juggling with my health (heart, kidneys, arthritis)

it’s shit

but I have food, gas, electric, petrol and my priority bills are paid.

PressedThistle · 23/10/2026 19:43

Without checking I have absolutely no idea!

Upsetbetty · 23/10/2026 19:53

Been paid today:
my current account 1920.02
joint account 2796.43
Don’t know how much dp has (probably 3k ish)
child benefit is next week

sounds and feels amazing…yet somehow by the end of the month it will be pretty much gone! Like…it’s actually insane! crazy! 🤪

Myremoteislost · 23/10/2026 19:57

About £30 until the 30th. I get paid on the last Friday of the month, and sometimes that means 5 weeks between pay dates like this month!

Nsky62 · 23/10/2026 20:14

not a lot, enough, just cat and I, monies going in 28/29, I don’t work due to health, all ok, food in .

ThisSillyPoet · 23/10/2026 20:19

£60 left until Thursday. Two direct debits go out on Monday so effectively zero. There is stuff in the fridge and ingredients in the cupboard so we won’t starve!

mondaytosunday · 23/10/2026 20:26

Ermmmm. I have about £10 and my mortgage hasn’t gone out yet! Partially because I had to pay my DDs rent (for this month) and deposit (in September) at the start of the month as her student loan hadn’t come in. It’s going to be tight next month too as I’ve got a service charge to pay and my accountant (filed my taxes already). But in December getting a windfall so smooth sailing after that! Just got to hold my breath til then. I’m a widow and my parents are all gone and wouldn’t ask them anyway. It’s just a short term cash flow issue!

Error404FucksNotFound · 23/10/2026 20:28

Im nearly 300 quid into my overdraft, so, yeah. Fun times.

Thisusernameisalwaysavailable · 23/10/2026 20:40

£2572.68p

Helpmechooseausername · 23/10/2026 20:48

-£850. It's like this every month.

3 teen-agers and 'only' 6 years left on the mortgage so by the time that's done I should be able to haul myself out of this long standing debt.

buymeaboaanddrivemetoreno · 23/10/2026 20:50

£15 😩

Mamaof3monkeys · 23/10/2026 20:53

£52 - 3 kids, 2 adults, 2 cats.

Namechangewegovyjune26 · 23/10/2026 20:54

£50.18 and that’s only because I sold some bits on Vinted 😬 it’s going to be a long week! Though I hope child benefit gets paid on Monday 🤞

(forgot to say that’s not actually my money now either, as I’m in my overdraft, that’s just what I “have” to spend until I max my overdraft 😢)

KookyFish · 23/10/2026 21:02

I'll not answer fully because I am pretty good financially now but there has definitely been times I've been in a heap on the kitchen floor in tears over money.

I would only have pennies in the bank on payday, no arranged overdraft and all bills still to pay.

It never feeles like it in the moment but life goes up and down, you can have really rough spells and times where you are more comfortable, nothing lasts forever, good or bad.

SnapAndTap · 23/10/2026 21:08

I got paid today. DH gets paid end of next week. We're ok for the next couple of weeks. Although half term may deplete things a bit.

Nemorth · 23/10/2026 21:31

My DH got paid today (his payday is the 25th which is a Sunday) just as well he was paid today because our joint account was minus £60. So joint is comfortable now.

I get paid on 28th and in my personal account I have £213.

I’m feeling very fortunate.

OneNewEagle · 23/10/2026 22:44

Pay day was today here. Was down to not a lot left.

the last week and especially last weekend was a struggle so it was various freezer stuff meals, stayed at home, listened to the radio, did a few hobbies. Our Sunday tea was a bowl of porridge.

I pay all the bills, get some big food shops in for the month and stretch them and there’s never much left. I have various savings accounts with my bank so I move bits over to them at the beginning of the monthly, pay day, for set things so I can’t overspend by accident.

I can’t complain we have a home, all bills paid and food, I just don’t do anything else as there’s nothing left for that. Can’t even afford the bus to town as it all adds up. Bought myself a cheap cardigan on vinted tonight so that will probably be the only thing I buy or do this month.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 25/10/2026 09:44

Updating: £60 until Wednesday.
I went to sainsburys yesterday and grabbed some snacks for my Dd and Dsis (they are a year apart) and wanted a chill/movie day and the next thing you know it's come to £64 and I didn't know my log-in for the blimmin nectir app to get the discounts.

I can't believe that they are still allowed to do discount prices for card holders. Food just needs to be affordable full stop xx

PreparationPreventsPPP · 25/10/2026 09:53

£2 pay day Friday but I have £150 shop arriving today which will carry us through food wise and be ok on that front.

Update-
76 spent from current account on some meds for dd/meds and supplements for me, and some shampoo for dd also.
78 from current account spent on new loungewear for me. (Much needed! Let’s hope it fits/suits!)
74 from joint on food shopping (we didn’t need loads)
35 from joint on a take away

why is it so easy to spend 🤣🤣

TheCappyEffect · 25/10/2026 10:20

Got paid Friday but I was at -399.99 the day before, and I scrape by every month. I have an ok income for a single person household, if only I could stop wasting money, unfortunately my mental health struggles don’t help as I’m always wanting a dopamine hit.
