Sovereign Citizens - they aren't driving, they're travelling and don't need drivers license, insurance etc

Inspired by the Auditor thread. There are people who think they are sovereign citizens and don't need a licence, tax or insurance

Loads of YouTube videos from police interacting with them and normally breaking their windows

How do people fall for such stuff?

YouTube is full of it as is facebook. There are multiple videos of it being "successful".

Say they get pulled over in a car for drink driving , the officer may decide they dont have reasonable enough grounds to proceed and drop it.

Because they dont identify themselves or comply then often they get released because they werent always actually breaking the law. Eg there will be a massive long protracted argument, that will result in afternoon in custody while checks are carried out which could have been done in 5 minutes road side.

Cps decide its not worth charging

Police muck up process so evidence becomes inadmissable. This is common in debt related stuff, companies dont follow the process so its not enforceable

All of these are claimed as victories of their law avoidance when they are natural parts of the process and you'll find people then advising others on how to replicate their sucess. Some people outright lie about their experiences

Its no more effective than staying silent

People also buy little certificates of them deregisterinf 😄

I know someone who believes in all this along with birth bonds as a fund to draw on. Funnily went on in depth about not having to pay mortgages, council tax, utilities but since buying a house pays the bills. It's gone quiet about the birth bonds.

There was something about a 'birth' being something to do with berths, and maritime law. A birth certificate being the equivalent of a ship manifest. I switched off at that point.

Wow.

That is another level of derangement.

The council probably haven’t noticed

Not noticed nonpayment of taxes for five or six years? Are they rolling in money or criminally disorganized? When I pay my property taxes, it's all computerized. I log into a web portal and authorize the transfer from my bank. Or I can mail in a check. My town knows to the minute who has paid and who hasn't.

I was joking but I believe there are some councils who are so chronically mismanaged they wouldn’t necessarily be on top of individual taxpayers

Fantomfartflinger · 21/10/2026 21:46

It is always inadequates with personality problems that talk like this. Plus they want their services, benefits and pensions from the government. At least if they were genuinely self sufficient and lived miles from anyone, you could make a case. Funny ones in the USA on shows like court cam that have real cases. They end up worse off and/or laughed at in court.

They're such wankers

Summed up perfectly!

I would be very surprised if this was the case.

However in most property tax systems the owner is the liable party not the tenant which makes recovery much more straightforward because

  1. They generally have money and
  2. If they dont pay then the house can be siezed

The UK Council Tax system is set up in a way that makes the money harder to collect and creates a lot more administration than necessary

I love these videos. Guilty pleasure of mine. Such deluded people. One of my favourites was the cop asking a woman what the D stood for on her transmission. He said it isn't travelling, it is driving.

with my family member the council have been chasing them for years, they get bailiff letters but no house visits. They’re in 1000s of debt. I know they pay their rent but absolutely no utilities. I’m unsure about car insurance. And they got into debt with cards and klarna etc and just stopped paying that. The anxiety would kill me off.
The utility providers send letters but again no visits. They’re stopped paying during Covid when they began to believe bill gates was putting microchips inside us with the vaccine.

BeardySchnauzer · 22/10/2026 14:23

In those situations they should involve the landlord as I’m surprised they are still willing to rent to them!!

I think a couple of summers ago this happened, but absolutely nothing since.

Funny how they pay rent isn’t it? 😂

TheBitterBoy · 22/10/2026 14:34

I sometimes have to deal with these types as part of my job. The number of them who insist they don't have to pay their bills because they never 'signed a contract' with us, and demand that any correspondence we send them is invalid unless it's signed in 'wet ink'. Drives me nuts.

All caps VERONICA.

Wasn't there the couple who had the baby in Barbados and they turned out to be sovereign citizens. Funny how they expected the British embassy to sort that all out for them…

think they ended up being arrested for people smuggling

I was just thinking about this pair and their poor child.

HappyNooYear · 22/10/2026 19:57

Oh I wondered about that Barbados couple. And Constance Martin. Explains their very strange decision making.

Big thank-you to @cakeorwine for posting this.

The Irish policeman is so chill but firm in response to the eejit insisting he has an automobile not a car so doesn't need a driving licence.

I felt for the family
The female cop tells him not to be a dickhead in this one

Family member has declared themselves a SC. Hasn’t paid council tax or utility bills since the pandemic when they became sucked into all this nonsense. Believes they’ll be absolutely fine (does pay rent however) and doesn’t believe in climate change but has lots of woo ideas. It’s insanity but hasn’t had to deal with any consequences of refusing to pay for their bills.

Does he travel in his car?

What gets me about the US is the demand to call for a supervisor,
Can you imagine that in the UK? Call the Sergeant out

But so many do it and shout it is their right.

BeardySchnauzer · 22/10/2026 20:54

It’s kind of how society is going though - want the rights without the responsibilities

I wonder how many of these guys claim child benefit/happy to get their bins collected/call the fire brigade if their house catches fire etc but then don’t want to pay their taxes or contribute in any meaningful way

Hapless is not a word I would use to describe Constance Marten.

Fair point

Yeah they drive. No idea if they pay car tax and insurance though.
