Has MN just generally got more argumentative ??

I feel as though every thread turns into a row about 3 replies in. Is everyone just more argumentative these days? Rows between women about misogynistic behaviour I find really sad. Is there still a sister hood?
Should I just stay on the books and gardening threads?

No I’ve always been argumentative.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2026 20:45

Fully expecting this to turn into full combat after 2 replies but hey let's hope not.....
Maybe it's just not the forum for me anymore 😕

It is getting almost unusually. There is a cohort of people who run from thread to thread to insult the OP. They DM each other to organise what they’re going to say too.

Then there are the ‘Mumsnet is for straight talking and harsh opinions’ crowd who seem to think that means that they need to be nasty and abusive.

It does my head in.

ShakyBake · 18/10/2026 21:07

Can we settle this with an arm wrestle?

WhatsItAllForAnyway · 18/10/2026 21:14

It's just got a lot of people taking out their dissatisfaction with their lives on other people. You just have to ignore them and see it for what it is.

That's nuts how could people be bothered🤯

Oh wow. The second hand embarrassment I'm feeling for the sad sacks who do that! 😂

Sphincter clenching stuff

I like MN for the arguments (in the discussing different points of view sense of the word) as it helps me to see different view points and it's changed my mind about some things.

Unfortunately I think more and more people don't want to logically discuss their point and just go straight into arguments (in the violent disagreement sense of the word).

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/10/2026 21:29

I love watching a good argument 😆

No, but some of the posters and their posts have become more stupid.

I found out when one accidentally posted what was meant to be a DM on one of my threads. Sad is certainly the word.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2026 21:48

@orthrywreeinvicedifthe- is that for real? Wowzer...

Yep. I had a thread and three of them were acting extremely odd and then one made a mistake and posted what was meant to be a DM in the thread.

I seen the same three names on other threads that day repeating the same pattern of behaviour.

I think they name change every day but I always assume it’s them when I see someone coming on to be abusive to OP on often innocuous threads who is then joined by a couple of others.

I think it must be a hobby for them.

CarbonelKitten · 18/10/2026 22:02

I do read a lot of OPs and think hmmmmm then the poster never comes back.... They basically start a bunfight and sit back. Maybe they then name change and throw in some extreme comments to stir things up 🤔

And I have noticed some people who get really nasty and personally attack rather than debating.

Greedybilly · 19/10/2026 11:00

@CarbonelKitten- I think it's the sheer nastiness that I've noticed most.

Pallaska · 19/10/2026 11:22

There's a lot of bot content on here nowadays. Loads of slop. Some of it is subtler now. I was reading a long thread earlier when I gradually realised the OP was AI or using AI over about 10 comments. It was pretty convincing at first.

You just can't imagine that you're talking to a person any more, really. And given that, I just ignore or disengage from fight club comments. Given that I cannot know, it's sensible to just assume all those people are actually robots and ignore them. Ignore and report and carry on.

Once you start responding then that's the thread derailed and their objective is won.

ilovesooty · 19/10/2026 11:26

I loathe the term "sisterhood". I'm not going to agree with someone who's posted something I disagree with just because she's a woman.

pulpJarvis · 19/10/2026 11:28

There is a real weirdness to some responses on here - just people itching to be contrary or have a fight. I ignore it mostly but when someone is obviously reaching out for help it just seems mean.

That's exactly what I was just about to say.

And 'where's the sisterhood' is often trotted out by OPs who simply don't like the advice they're being given.

But I agree with the OP that MN has got a bit nastier although it's mainly just AIBU.

HairsprayBabe · 19/10/2026 11:30

The whole world has, we have lost the ability for nuance

Well @PoppieCock you've just used 3 acronyms in one post. That would Not go down well with a few posters on a thread I started. I used the acronym 'YP' and the abbreviation 'uni'.. Several posters didn't like this At All, they were rather confrontational about it too 😆

Edited

Oh, the YP would annoy me a bit because I'd either have to ask you what you meant, or I'd have to Google it.

But either way, I wouldn't get angry 🤣

DD and DS have been AWOL for 1wk - I rang 111 but DH said they are probably at FILs working PT and I know nothing because I am a SAHM with 4 NDNs on each side.

Should I LTB so he is StbExH or AIBU?

Can I get any more in @PoppieCock ha!
