Morning All! What are you up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in the conservatory. Both cats have just been down for breakfast - quite a while after I came down! Girl cat looked at it like I was trying to poison her & has opted for biscuits 🤷‍♀️.

I'll move shortly to soak a couple of pots, put pots away and fold washing. There's not really a lot else to do. I'll do a wash later on, when we get in.

We're off to the cinema this afternoon to watch Hades Town. It's dd2's current thing, played on repeat & sung at the top of her voice. I suggested an overnight somewhere while it's on tour but she was a bit hesitant.

This morning will be mostly crafting & internet browsing for me. I want a Halloween stencil for the window and a crochet pattern for a strawberry pot. Also, I had a thought about making my cauldron light up with led ice cubes or similar, so I'll look for some of those too.

When we get in, we'll have spaghetti & meatballs for tea, early showers, and get sorted for the last four days of half term 🥳. Looking forward to the break!

What about you? 😊

Hi @lucysmam, I enjoyed seeing your photo of boy cat yesterday! Do you have one of the girl?
It's a bright sunny day here, I'm currently sat in bed, just finished my morming cup tea with my cat sprawled across my legs.

I'll get up in a sec and have a shower, then I think I'll go and have a golf practice and then straight to pick up my click and collect from Tesco. Golf would normally be in the afternoon but we are going out for a Sunday roast later which I'm really looking forward to. DS18 and his girlfriend are joining us which will be lovely!

I’m up late!
Mass
Children have homework.
1.5 hr round trip to drop daughter off at boyfriends
1.5 hr round trip to pick up car from last night
Big food shop
Meal prep
Laundry catch up
Ring my mother
Nieces birthday party
I’ve got to do 15 mins emails I keep putting off
I want to watch an episode of moblands!

I want to go for a run (I literally say this every weekend) but having typed that out, I’ll never fit it in

chickenfordinner · 18/10/2026 09:26

morning all! @lucysmamive seen people use essential oil diffusers for cauldrons as they do give off a good ‘steam’ effect. Only really helpful if you already have one though you can get them fairly cheap.

We are taking our pup (now 5 months) to some pumpkin thing at the garden centre - bit of silliness really but DD really wanted to do it and am sure they will both enjoy it. Then maybe gym if I can find the energy and then DD And DH going out for dinner with his parents as early celebrations for DDs birthday next week - i am
staying home with the dog and to get through a back log of work that needs finishing before I am off for the week. Got a lot to do so hoping I can crack through it all

have a lovely day all - nice and bright and sunny here!

ThatGoldScroller · 18/10/2026 09:27

And getting Halloween decorations out and carving a pumpkin. Going to that first actually ?priorities!

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 18/10/2026 09:31

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. In bed with DH, thinking very hard about getting up to make a 2nd cuppa & determinedly avoiding looking at yet more antiques/jewellery on Vinted! I dread to think how much I’ve spent since I discovered all the wonderful things on offer & swapped uploading charity shop clothes for sourcing china, glassware, paintings & more brooches than I know what to do with! Later today I will be going over to DF’s to place some ads on E Bay. Chat GPT or whichever mode I am using has been invaluable & even acts as a counsellor when I get overwhelmed with the huge task ahead of me.DF will be visiting DM in her care home for most of the day so I will make the most of the peace & quiet. DD17 came down when I was making DH’s cuppa (I had made mine soon after I woke at 7.30). She looks terrible, bless her. Doesn’t help that she’s up very late on the phone to her GF plus she says she isn’t sleeping. She’s gone out for a walk. I need to sort the kitchen, hang the washing out from yesterday & peel some spuds plus a carrot just for me as DH not a fan. Having Greggs steak slices, double cream mash & peas for tea. If I’m so inclined, I will start to clear space for the rabbit cages as we will need to bring them in at night from around Halloween because of the fireworks. I haven’t really thought where everything is going to go but if I don’t start now, it will hang over me. DH will move the heavier stuff such as the velvet storage trunk. Oh & I have 2 or 3 items of clothing to put on Vinted, including a brand new with tags Joe Browns top. And some parcels to collect from Spar & Morrisons, both of which open late on Sundays. Have a great day folks ❤️

TheBlueArsedFly · 18/10/2026 09:32

Not the day i was planning after coming down with the 🤢 🤮 yesterday. So, instead of heading to the library to study for my masters, I'm still in bed after bravely drinking a cup of coffee and waiting to see what happens next. At least my head has stopped pounding. Planning to put the kids' summer clothes away later if I feel better and get them to change their beds. But that is the height of my ambition.

gingercat02 · 18/10/2026 09:57

Morning all, happy Sunday.
Missed you yesterday Lucysmam, busy day.
Hopefully today will be more chill.
Off you my class shortly, then collect Mum from church, hopefully the last time, she gets her cast off on Friday so will be back to her usual self soon.
DH and I are finally enjoying our empty nest, now she has gone home.
Need to go out to deliver a birthday card later.
Roast beef for dinner but other than that, I'm planning to do a bit of washing and very little else!

DilemmaDelilah · 18/10/2026 10:05

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I'm feeling a bit better today so I've just had my breakfast... a low fat cheddar and pickle sandwich with no crusts (don't judge - it's what I felt like).

Mr Dilemma told me this morning we've had a rat in the kitchen - he suspected when he found a nibbled nectarine so he set up a camera last night. Again, don't judge! We don't leave food out, except the fruit bowl, and we keep a clean kitchen. So one of my jobs today is to check the cupboards. I'm pretty sure everything is fine... but best to check. We keep our cupboard doors shut and most of my dried goods are in glass jars, thank goodness! He has ordered some humane traps and some repellent and will be doing a thorough search today to try and find where it might have got in.

I have some more laundry to do and I will be doing some more crafting. I made a couple of beaded felt heart decorations yesterday and I have cut out the shapes for another couple. After those are finished I'm going to try to restrain myself from making any more... for a while anyway! I made myself a bag last week which I am quite proud of, so another bag will be my next project. The last one was fairly big... an everyday bag big enough to put 'stuff' in, like my specs, phone, purse, paracetamol, tissues and whatever else I might need when out for the day. The next one will be an evening bag. It still needs to be big enough for my specs and phone, but not much more than that. I picked up a piece of raspberry pink velvet a few weeks ago that I think will be great for that, and I already had some deep red fabric that will do nicely for the lining.

Tonight we will be eating something in which I can use some of the chicken I roasted on Friday evening, the rest will have to go in the freezer. I think we might have chicken fried rice. I quite fancy a fricasee, but Mr Dilemma thinks he doesn't like it (despite asking for seconds last time I made it). I will see what he says.

That's it folks! Have a lovely day everybody, or at least the best one possible.

Topsy44 · 18/10/2026 10:06

Good Morning Lucysmam and All

Had 2 big cups of tea and a croissant. Also, a lovely cuddle with my old boy cat, he usually prefers my DD but this morning I was honoured with his presence.

Need to get dressed in a moment, then will tackle cleaning a bit of the kitchen. Big shop arriving at lunchtime and might give the lawns their final mow this afternoon and will try and gear DD up to get her chemistry revision done for the end of term tests next week.

Will probably do a spag Bol for tea which we’ll have watching the Strictly results!

Tiddlywinks63 · 18/10/2026 10:07

Good morning, another lovely cold sunny morning here. Biggest dog and I have had our morning walk and I’ve just finished my mug of coffee and toast with marmalade. I need to get the washing hung out.
The kitchen is tidy and dinner ready for cooking (gammon joint, mashed potatoes, mange touts peas and baby carrots), all’s quiet here.

frozendaisy · 18/10/2026 10:11

Morning morning morning all
Just nudging H to make coffee then will clear kitchen (think every pan it was Mexican buffet & unsuccessful brownies yesterday)
Then teens and revision

Brownies were just a bit to cakey but edible so will add custard later. Will bring them out 4 minutes earlier next time.

Teens, revision, pork Sunday roast, radio, painting.

Love a Sunday like this. Books, food and pencils.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 18/10/2026 10:38

Good morning lucysmam and others. A rude awakening this morning as I had to scrape the car. I've had 2 coffees, a cup of tea and a slice of toast- the first for nearly 2 weeks. Then the trip to aldi where I stocked up on food and sweets for Halloween and a couple ofChristmas gifts. Home again, everything has been put away and I'm having another cup of tea before making egg muffins, lentil soup and a chicken curry, as well as emptying and loading the dishwasher and washing the floors. If I can be bothered, I will clean the windows and take the hoover over my bedroom ceiling and walls to get rid of webs. That's the plan! Have a good day all.

thebeautifulsky · 18/10/2026 10:41

Good morning all. I've been up bright and early to a frosty scene in the fields. Had my usual walk up and down the hills and just got back and now sitting in the kitchen with a coffee. The sun is shining through and I'm looking at all the tiny handprints on my windows! I think I should leave them as they're cute (I can't be bothered cleaning them!)

I'm going to batch cook soon; a big pan of bolognaise that I'll make into chilli, lasagne and a couple of small cottage pies. I've still got a load of apples from our trees that I'm going to make into apple sauce and apple cake. We've got a busy week next week so I'm trying to get prepared.

We're going on a family walk this afternoon.

Me and DH will have a chilled evening watching TV and

Tangerinesattack · 18/10/2026 10:51

Morning all! Lovely bright day here but I'm not feeling great at all. Sore throat, head and tummy. DH is out charging the van - there's a free charger nearby so we try to use that when we can and DS is faffing about on his laptop.

I had planned to visit a wicker exhibition at a NT place and the weather is perfect but I feel very ropey so I'm not sure. Failing that, just a lazy day with too much TV and a bit of cross-stitch. Dinner will be pork with cabbage and figs, done in the slow cooker. Apple tart for afters.

Have a great day everyone!

BCBird · 18/10/2026 10:58

Good morning all. Not much here as sciatica still raging. Might try a jigsaw. Definitely cooking something nice for tea, even if it takes me 3 times as long!!!! Have the best day possible everyone.

YksiKaksiKolme · 18/10/2026 10:59

Had my covid/flu jabs yesterday. Staying in bed.

zingally · 18/10/2026 11:59

Having a PJ day today! Oodie on over the top and heating on.
Washing machine and dishwasher are both whirring away in the kitchen. Next job is to sort out some printing for my tutoring gigs during this coming week. One parent has just text to cancel, so that's one less to do. Then I'll go and make sandwiches for the freezer, for pulling out during the week as needed, then I'll settle down with either my book, or the last episode of the Lizzie Borden story on Netflix.
At some point I'll pop out and harvest the final tomatoes of the season and call it quits. They've really lasted well this summer. I picked the first one on the 1st August, so have had almost 3 months of home grown toms. We're all heartedly sick of them now though, so that'll be it.

Glimerz · 18/10/2026 12:04

Morning, I’ve got back in bed as it’s a grey day and enjoying a peaceful house as everyone is out. I’m heading to my parents for a roast and a dog walk later so I need to activate myself!

dicentra365 · 18/10/2026 12:05

Good morning @lucysmam and all, its midday already and I really need to get on with some jobs. I've dropped ds at his hobby and dh at work and since getting back have only managed to internet browse and have coffee and an eclair, all very nice but not getting my house sorted. Need to clean bathrooms, sort washing and have a general tidy, not very exciting. Later I will cook roast lamb and hopefully read a bit of my book, it would also be lovely to fit a walk in as the weather is beautiful and the leaves are starting to change colour. I'm trying to be a bit more mindful and take a moment to appreciate nature and the small things in between all the hecticness of the weekdays.

Thislittlekitten · 18/10/2026 12:28

Afternoon All

Sitting by the pool having lunch. It’s so hot here I’m enjoying every last minute of it.

We have enjoyed the pool and done lots of reading already though I’ve just soaked my book annoyingly. Hoping it dries ok.

Plans are more relaxing, a walk later for tea and a few drinks.

BreezyClouds · 18/10/2026 12:40

What a lovely thread with people doing very normal stuff, except @Thislittlekitten , are you on hols or do you just live somewhere fabulous!

I've had a very slow start, gastric upset from a meal out yesterday - everyone else ok so more just not agreeing with me.

Done 2loads of washing, DH cleaned downstairs whilst I tried to get the new robot hoover working then arranged it's return 🙄

This pm is gardening, I'm expecting today to be the last dry day so need to get lawn cut and some of the worst plants cut back a bit. It's a big garden and barely used this year because it was too hot.

Need to nip to local shop, out of coffee and milk, we're useless lately at food planning. No idea what for dinner either.

Dog walk with friends just arranged at 4pm, home before dark.

I'm struggling to do anything in the evenings now because it feels like night but lots of DIY we should be doing. Also put up modest Halloween decorations, house opposite has a 20 foot spider!

Giggorata · 18/10/2026 12:59

Good day lucysmam and all.
i have been thinking today is Monday up to now! The joys of retirement, or of going a bit gaga…
I was asleep so didn't catch the frost, if we had one, but I will keep an eye on it, as I want to pick the sloes. They are much smaller than usual because of the drought.
Pleased to report that the buttermilk rice pudding done in the slow cooker was very nice. I made a massive cottage pie instead of spag bol, so will be able to freeze loads for non cooking days.
DH requested a bread pudding, of all things, so I made a huge one of those, too (with more buttermilk) Perhaps he is feeling nostalgic, as I used to make them when the DC were at home, to fill the little gannets up.
Still taking it very slowly, with lots of sit downs.
DH has been hoovering, while I potter about in the kitchen, sorting out portions for freezing and rearranging the pantry.
Guess what, you can fit a quart into a pint pot!
Later, I really should finish off the various books I'm in the middle of.

Contemplating whether to attend either interviews i have this week. Imposter Syndrome kicking in.

Thislittlekitten · 18/10/2026 13:57

@BreezyClouds we are in Greece. It’s fabulous today I have to say. So enjoying a slow pace of life for a change x

Contemplating whether to attend either interviews i have this week. Imposter Syndrome kicking in.

Same. I've had a roller coaster of the past 2 weeks. Some once in a lifetime bucket list items ticked off, some terrible family news. Applied for my dream job almost on a whim and now I've got the fear thinking about preparing for it. I've made a pros and cons list and decided I may as well do the interview so after I finish watching the wsl match it'll be coffee, pastry and interview prep time.

Good luck!
