Should I cancel delivery with HALF items missing?

I have bought a Sainsburys delivery pass, after just paying delivery charges and switching between them.

They have said that 25 items are unavailable - including ALL the protein and veg.

I am fuming. I have never seen an unavailable list SO large before.

Should I cancel delivery with HALF items missing?

Yes cancel. Try Ocado instead.

Anonymousemouses · 17/10/2026 10:24

Thank you - 25 items is bloody disgusting

Can you cancel once they’ve already picked the shop? If so I’d cancel

cartagenagina · 17/10/2026 10:39

I would imagine there’s been an issue with refrigeration so yes, I would cancel the whole thing. Very frustrating.

Becuriousnotjudgemental1980 · 17/10/2026 10:43

That happened to me with Asda. It was because some of their fridges had failed in store. Never happened again.

thislittlelife · 17/10/2026 10:45

Bizarre! We switched to Sainsbury's about a year ago because Asda was terrible for unavailable/subbed items. We've found them brilliant, maybe 1 or 2 subs a month!

Musicaltheatremum · 17/10/2026 10:47

That's horrendous! I rarely get things not available from Sainsbury's and some of those products make me think something major has happened.

A million times this

JustWalnut · 17/10/2026 10:49

Yeah there must have been an issue. I usually get every single item on my Sainsbury's order.

Maybe OP is in Scotland...

Flipping heck I have never seen such a long list of unavailable, even when I used to have my Tesco deliveries in lockdown.

I would cancel; do you have a Tesco locally you could swap to? The other option too is to check local FB groups as I know the big supermarkets near me post on those if they have issues with their fridges / freezers etc. and that might give you an idea whether it’s just Sainsburys and/or what it is.

mamaof4losingmymind · 17/10/2026 10:53

Depends whether you need stuff today and are able to leave the house you will struggle to get an on the day delivery slot unless you use uber or deliveroo and pay double the amount

JustWalnut · 17/10/2026 10:49

The fridges will be down its all chilled stuff

BillieWiper · 17/10/2026 10:57

That's really crap! There must have been a supply chain issue.
I was surprised that the deliveries for most of them just come from a local large branch, rather than a warehouse. For some reason I thought they might be separate? Idk why. But it just means that if that branch is half empty it looks crap on them. You'd think it could trigger sending order to a different store if there's a certain amount missing?

LilyBunch25 · 17/10/2026 10:58

Crikey. I have a Sainsburys delivery pass and was using them a lot but I've never seen an unavailable list this long...! Actually was just discussing with DH us cancelling ours as we are finding Sainsburys creeping up in price and been using Lidl the last few weeks, so this months DS pass will actually work out expensive even if we have one delivery before the end of the month. I also started noticing a lot of short date items over the last couple of months being delivered which I either had to return for refund or make the best of which isn't the idea and meant I had to go out for some items anyway. I would cancel your delivery.

MintTwirl · 17/10/2026 10:59

Wow there has obviously been some kind of issue. I would probably keep the order and push for a voucher for the inconvenience.

rosydreams · 17/10/2026 11:01

asda did this too me showed up ay my door like 20 items missing .I checked the day before too,i was miffed .I said cancel

RedThroatedWarbler · 17/10/2026 11:11

I have been using them with a delivery pass for about 6 years and have never had that happen. As others have said, this looks like a specific issue if it is all fresh items. I tend to give companies the benefit of the doubt once before deciding there is a systemic issue and completely giving up on them.

LilyBunch25 · 17/10/2026 11:12

Further looking online there does seem to be some kind of issue affecting Sainsburys deliveries.

BalakayAARon · 17/10/2026 11:17

I've had something like this happen with Ocado once (in over 20 years). They phoned and asked me if I still wanted the delivery. They probably gave me a voucher too.

Not unreasonable for you to cancel. Or perhaps try for a suitable redelivery if the issue is resolved now.

Sainsbury's are usually pretty good though, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. I have a delivery pass with them too and my delivery coming today has just 2 very reasonable subs, no missing items.

Can you tell us more? Is it just one area or a software type failure? (I have a delivery due later today 😬, although my receipt has come through without any major issues showing.)

PumpkinCandy · 17/10/2026 11:21

Sainsbury’s has always been horrendous where I am, I stopped Using them, so many substitutes and unavailable items.

NewNameW · 17/10/2026 11:33

Must be a fridge issue, I see no harm in cancelling the shop but I wouldn't never shop there again because of 1 order. There must be a store or van issue or most of that would of been substituted

From what I could see there were technical glitches yesterday which affected deliveries- a search says they are operating 'normally' today but I'm not sure if there have been any knock on effects to weekend deliveries.
