Advice after first driving lesson pls

My dd had her first driving lesson today..she was nervous but excited. She only turned 17 a few weeks ago.

she had an hour lesson and came home in floods of tears. 6 hours later ive managed to get out of her that she was expected to drive on a 50mph road with 3 multi lane roundabouts. She said she was terrified and ended up in tears in the car whilst driving.

Is this normal? Is her instructor not great? The instructor knew that she has absolutely zero driving experience

My dd is saying she never wants to drive again.

Can anyone offer any advice pls

She needs to have confidence in her instructor. Finds someone else, preferably an instructor who somone she knows has used.

Durhhh 🫣 I missed that. Everyone ignore me

I only "drove' a few hundred yards and like others, the first lesson was mostly about learning the parts of the car, how to move the gearstick and use the pedals etc.

It will vary - my brother leaned at the same time as me but in a different location. On his 3rd lesson he did 75 miles an hour on a dual carriageway whereas I learnt in London and hadn't got above third gear by my third lesson.

No that’s not normal for someone with no experience. I have 2 driving and one learning and they all start off in the industrial estate. Learning the basics. Dd18 was out on the road in the town on her second lesson but it wouldn’t be unusual for it to be the third lesson if someone’s very nervous.
I would consider a different instructor with a more gradual, calmer approach.

It sounds a lot, but you need to empower your daughter to speak out at the time if she’s uncomfortable. The fact she couldn’t tell you till several hours later sounds like she was quite traumatised

‘Upset’ is the word you are looking for, she was quite upset. She absolutely wasn’t bloody traumatised from a bad driving lesson.

Totally inappropriate

I learned as an adult and my first 2 lessons were pootling around local quiet roads, getting the hang of mirrors and observations, meeting traffic etc

Third lesson I did a 50mph road and a big roundabout because that's the only way to get to the town with the test routes

But my instructor talked me through it very carefully and it felt safe

DS(18) is learning to drive. He didn’t do main roads until his 5th 2 hr lesson I don’t think! He certainly started on very quiet country roads! He’s had 6 x 2 hrs, hasn’t done dual carriageways of big roundabouts yet.
