What does he re-enact? I've met medieval, English Civil War and Napoleonic re-enactors. There are people who do the 1940s too (minus the rationing, I assume).

I’m more intrigued what historical reenactment he does.
And I say that without sarcasm as me and my family, kids and all, do it too!

Ahh, we host reenacters at work and they're a lovely bunch of people.

The only thing I'd say about the particular lot we host, is they're not keen on using the washing facilities.

And given they're wearing the same costumes all week, they can get a bit fragrant by the end of it 🤭

Ooooo, I've been to one of those re-enactments at Battle Abbey ... They are FABULOUS 😍

I remember guffawing at larpers in the woods as a teen, now almost 40 with a son I'd actually be thrilled if that was one day his hobby! They all have found their tribe, found friends and lots of creativity in that world. Yeah it can be a little cringey in a sense, I know a few people who like viking fairs and take it seriously but it's always with a huge dollop of fun, and what a great thing in life to find people on the same wavelength, it's not a given for some people.

As a historian, I find it weird when someone doesn't want to be a historical reenactor.

Are you anywhere near Suffolk? There's a recreated Anglo Saxon village at West Stow (near Bury St Edmunds) and they often have Saxon re enactors there. It's fascinating

When I was 10, our history teacher asked us which one we supported. I was nonplussed because obviously it was the ones that had nice frocks and supported KC2. I couldn’t explain why.

Years later I realised it was because I had read Children Of The New Forest! I had a look at it recently and found it almost unreadable.

I have also now come to regard the Putney Debates as seminal in the history of our nation. “The poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he…”

… but I fear I’m getting over serious for a light-hearted thread.
