If you’re tea-total, can you tell me the benefits?

I’m leaning towards giving up, just need some inspiration to help motivate me a little more.

If you’ve given up drinking, I would love to hear what you have found to be the benefits to your life or to others around you please, thank you

I only drink once or twice a year. I hate seeing folk whose lives are ruined or badly affected by alcohol. Life is difficult enough without adding this problem to it.

My DH and I are retired now, but at work being teetotal was tricky especially around Christmas time, so we both avoided going to any seasonal parties. I found that ‘just staying for one quick drink’ after work never meant being able to have a single orange juice then going home!

The advantages of being teetotal are:
We are not surrounding by boring drunk people when we go out, because they think we’re the boring ones and avoid us!
We save money by not buying alcohol.
We both sleep well and still have sharp brain function with no sign of memory issues.
We have outlived some of our contemporaries who were heavy drinkers.

My daughters and husband don't live in constant fear and anxiety about my moods and behaviour.

We enjoy each other's company now.

I go to sleep naturally (rather than pass out), and wake up naturally, without a hangover.

I'm not always trying to pass off a hangover (daily occurance) as illness.

I read a book or watch a movie and remember it.

I'm not constantly angry.

I'm not constantly looking for excuses to drink.

It's saved us a fortune - or rather, the serious financial poo we'd be in if I was still drinking!

I've been able to grow my nails since I was four.

My New Year's resolutions don't begin with 1. stop drinking, 2. stop biting my nails!

I didn't become an alcoholic
People don't have to tolerate the drunk version of me
Better parent
Better friend
More money
Better health
No worry about being sober enough to drive
You can see the silly alcohol obsessed culture for what it is
It pisses off those in denial about their own problem drinking
It pisses off judgemental people

I used to drink at the weekends but after a cancer diagnosis in March, I’ve not drunk. I don’t want to never drink again, but save for special weekends or Christmas.

So after 8 months …
Skin is clear and smoother (facially I think I look younger)
Time goes slower on nights out
Can remember things
Saves money
Feel more hydrated
Clear headedness
Reduces my risk of future cancer recurrence
