Parking in Bath

Myvasesarenew · 07/10/2026 11:32

I know this is the most boring of topics! However I am going on a day trip to Bath on Friday and wondered where is best to park? I've never been before. I've looked online but it's be helpful to know realistically which car parks are likely to have spaces. I'm feeling really unwell and have also hurt my ankle, so ideally I want to be as central as possible. We have an event booked on Widcombe Parade.
Thank you in advance ☺️

I use Charlotte street car park I think it’s called. Someone with more knowledge might recommend something closer though

Chatterlyssecret · 07/10/2026 16:03

Look up Avon street car park it’s the closest to Widcombe Parade, the Riverside Hotel has paid parking & just around the corner from the Parade.

Chatterlyssecret · 07/10/2026 16:07

There is also Park & Ride busses & close drop off for Widcombe Parade.

PickFlowersNotFights · 07/10/2026 16:15

I always use Lansdown park and ride - good for daytime but buses only run till about 10pm? I think. Various drop offs in town

Myfridgeiscool · 07/10/2026 16:27

We use Charlotte Street Car park, it’s close to the shops.

bababamama · 07/10/2026 16:27

there pay and display right there, it’s the other side of the river so best to park that side, if not park at the station which isn’t far. Pay and display uses the MiPermit app

Lansdown p&r for me too. Excellent service. I just wouldn't trust a car park to have any space.

whatsgoingonhey · 07/10/2026 16:34

Charlotte Street car park is close to the shops and reasonably priced. Ends up not costing much more than park and ride which seems a faff.

I love the P&R and don’t find it a faff at all. I especially love the announcer with a proper West Country accent - makes me and DD giggle every time 😂

Charlotte Street, Walcot street.

After those, the cricket club car park often has spaces when all the others are full.

Berengariaoftheverylowcountries · 07/10/2026 19:25

I used lansdowne P&R and thought it very good

If it's a day trip I'd go Charlotte st/queen Charlotte and get in as early as you can, take the hit on the parking fee. It's pretty near everything although if you end up down by the train station it is a bit of a schlep back up at the end of the day. When I go to the theatre I park at Avon st later, and ideally after any rugby match has ended.

Crucially, check if Bath rugby are playing at home that day as it is INSANE at the end of the match and there are huge queues for the buses etc so if you've got a park early enough you're better off.

menopausalmare · 07/10/2026 20:05

Haven't been to Bath for years but when I lived in Bristol we always parked in the big Charlotte Street car park.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/10/2026 20:13

Any chance you could get the train? That’s always my answer to parking concerns!

Madcats · 07/10/2026 20:34

How long/time do you need to be there(ish)? Are you travelling solo (could somebody drop you off and
move the car; there are some 4 hour free spaces but they are up a steep hill). There are some 2 hour spots closer, but they tend to get snapped up.

Otherwise, try Claverton St car park next to the Baptist Church (get in from Rossiter Road). The Cricket Club car park on North Parade is a 5 minute flat walk away. As it is a Friday there will probably be space in the train station car park (just cross over the footbridge), but I think they charge by the day.

Parking attendants are fairly zealous in the neighbouring streets, so don’t risk it.

Thank you for the replies, it's really helpful. We are just going for the day. I'm aiming to leave around 9 (maybe a little later if traffic is bad) and leave before rush hour. I will have a look at Charlotte Street carpark.

Although just checked Google maps and it's a 20 minute walk from where we need to go. Not usually an issue but with my bad ankle I'm hoping to limit walking. It's not ideal and I'd cancel but it's my son's Xmas gift and he's looking forward to it. Plus we have a year to use the voucher and it's nearly expired.

Ok, so I've had a look at Lansdowne P&R. I've never actually done a park and ride! Do I pay to park in the carpark? Or on the bus? Is there just one bus that goes into the city centre, or does it stop at multiple stops? I've no idea where I need to go!

There is an other P&R at Odd Down & Newbridge you need to get as close to the Bus & Railway station as possible.

LoughboroughBex · 07/10/2026 21:36

Where are you travelling from? Odd Down Park and Ride is closest drop off to Widcombe.

Or Southgate car park and then cross the bridge behind the station, Charlotte street will be a long walk with a bad ankle

You pay on the bus - don’t pay at the machine as many people make that mistake but if you read the signs it’s clear.

Im afraid I don’t know the stops but hope you find a way!

LoughboroughBex · 07/10/2026 21:36

For all the park and rides you park for free and pay on the bus

Noras · 07/10/2026 21:37

Podium car park is right by all the shops. It’s easy to and cheaper than many. Also it’s right by Waitrose toilets.
