Slightly unhinged self catering packing/shopping list what might have I forgotten?

Its only a long weekend and it isn't that serious but I do like to have my things with me. I take from my grandmother who once bought a jug of gravy on a caravan holiday, you never know what you might need!

So with that in mind what slightly mad thing do you always take away with you that I should absolutely add to my packing list?

On top of the "normal" things we usually pack:

heated throw blanket
hand held milk frother
a good knife
a cheese grater
my own tea towels
extension cable
an over radiator drying rack

I have been known to take the air fryer but I think I will cope without it for 4 days!

The 4 of us are going to Bluestone, DC are 4 and 6 if it makes any difference to your suggestions!

Kitchen roll, good for cleaning small messes like dropped drinks or oops spilled whilst cooking
Fairy skip the soak for breakfast pans
Whisk
My own pillow!

Love a caravan holiday but every time I stay in one there's one random thing missing.

A bath mat
Mug (it's always shitty little tea cups provided)
Wine glass / flute (can't be doing wth drinking wine out of the wrong kind of glass)
Baking tray

If you are having a golf buggy, take some old towels to dry it in case it rains. 🌧️

Folding step and toilet seat reducer for the kids.

Good knife
Can opener
Vegetable peeler.

Small toys.(Cars etc)
Antibac spray.

My list is horrendous, though I have never taken a jug of gravy!

DH has declared he wants to make pizza one night and has asked if he minds me packing the pizza stone - reader I have converted him to my ways of madness!

But I do take my cafetière, plus ground coffee, even on cruises, we all have our quirks

You take your coffee pot on a cruise that is commitment 😀

i spent years taking the cafetiere to self catering properties and they always had one. then the one time I didn't the place had neither a teapot or a cafetiere. We had to do an emergency shop for coffee bags and make tea in a pyrex jug!

Agree with this.
We often go to a quite upmarket self catering villa in Spain and got caught out first time with no garlic crusher, no pan spatter cover and oven gloves. No pasta strainer. Never enough dishwasher tabs. And knives always blunt. No kitchen roll.
So just chuck those things in the bag.

If you go often and it's upmarket, you could email the agency and ask them to let the owner know that some of these items would be good additions?

We did! 😂

A chopping board, the glass ones they provide in caravans set my teeth on edge.

@HairsprayBabesome of the bluestone lodges have air fryers now! There is a list on their website of what is included in each style lodge

HairsprayBabe · 08/10/2026 13:01

An air fryer would be better then some of the ovens these places have that always take an age to warm up and cook food.
