Does anyone have a flat sheet?

I am pondering adding a flat sheet to my bedding and wondered if anyone actually does that these days?

Mostly I want to feel like I am in a hotel getting into a crisp bed but wondering if it's just an extra faff that I will soon be bored of.

Yes. Always have done.

QuestionableMouse · 06/10/2026 18:48

Yes, I prefer them to fitted sheets for the mattress and use one under my coverles duvet. It makes changing the bed really quick and easy!

SemmaLina · 06/10/2026 18:48

Yep , have flat sheets
I used to run a BnB , and bought some of the hotel quality sheets with us when we retired
White , 100% Egyptian cotton , lovely

I have a fitted sheet for the mattress, and a flat sheet (with hospital corners and EVERYTHING!) beneath the duvet. I treated myself to some very expensive high-thread count bedding when I moved out for the second time, so I thought that I might as well go the whole hog! Five years later, I'm still using them.

Topseyt123 · 06/10/2026 18:50

I do have some that I use in the summer months (especially this summer) when it is too warm for any sort of duvet, even a lightweight summer one.

I've just put my duvet back on the bed at the last bedclothes change a couple of days ago.

AveragePotato · 06/10/2026 18:51

Yes fitted on the bottom and flat on the top

DH irons them so they are nice and crisp on day 1-2 but then the freshness is gone (and no way am I washing more than one set a week other than in cases of disease or disaster)

Pearlstillsinging · 06/10/2026 18:52

Yes, I can't stand fitted sheets, they don't stay where they are put

W0tnow · 06/10/2026 18:52

I didn’t for YEARS, then I bought some recently. I prefer some sort of cover all year round and the nights were so warm that the duvet was too much. I like them.

MrsMitford3 · 06/10/2026 18:53

We all use them in the summer when even the lightest duvet is too heavy.

Not with a duvet though and use fitted sheet on the bottom.

Fortunateporcupine · 06/10/2026 18:53

I have a massively oversized (for my bed)one that I use instead of a fitted sheet . I just fold it under and tuck in rather than messing around trying to stretch the fitted sheet.

Parker231 · 06/10/2026 18:53

Yes linen flat sheets - much prefer as they stay in place better

CherryPinkAppleBlossomWhite · 06/10/2026 19:01

Yes! I love my flat sheets, I use them under my coverless duvet.

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 06/10/2026 19:05

Absolutely. Revolutionary for warmth! Cool in the summer so much warmer in winter

Springbuck · 06/10/2026 19:52

Yes, fitted bottom sheet, flat sheet, duvet. I’m so happy reading this. I thought I must be the only person who does this. My family thinks it’s nuts.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/10/2026 19:54

I stopped using the fitted bottom sheet. I'm now using an untucked flat sheet on the bottom (over the fitted mattress protector) with duvet on top. 🤷‍♀️

2017SoFarSoGood · 06/10/2026 19:55

Yes indeed. Flat sheet with a blanket. No flat sheet with a duvet. Flat sheet only when it’s hot but you can’t be without cover because - who knows what will get you in the night!

FairViewRosie25 · 06/10/2026 19:57

On holiday in Italy a couple of weeks ago lovely thick flat sheet. No duvet so had to add thick wool blanket as the nights got VERY cold

FairViewRosie25 · 06/10/2026 19:59

Can’t be doing with a duvet + top sheet at home though

Kepler22B · 06/10/2026 20:00

No flat sheet here. Fitted sheet on the bottom and the duvet when cold. When warm it was just the duvet cover without the duvet in so the bed still looks made.

BugOnARugDrinkingTeaFromAMug · 07/10/2026 18:48

I forgot I made this thread. So happy there are more flat sheet fans about.

I am going to treat us to some really nice high thread count bedding.

This - flat sheet under the duvet as its easier to wash the flat sheet than the duvet cover. Wash flat sheet every week and duvet cover every second week so.

XmasCrackPies · 08/10/2026 21:16

How do wash a coverless duvet? Isn't that more faff than a duvet cover?

EveryDayisFriday · 08/10/2026 21:21

Yes, we added a top sheet under the duvet about 5yrs ago. Its great, better to stop under duvet drafts in winter and slepp under just the sheet in summer. Also, easier on the laundry to wash the sheets every week and the duvet cover every other week.

TheEasterPangolin · 08/10/2026 21:28

Fitted sheet over mattress, flat sheet then duvet. It means I can go much longer without washing the duvet cover which takes longer to dry than a sheet. I’m in a tiny flat with no space for a tumble dryer, so anything that reduces the amount of washing all over the place in various stages of drying, is important. Also good in summer as can pull back the duvet and just sleep under the sheet
