This is crazy. What a horrendous time for all involved. You can’t just go around failing executions!!

I just don’t understand how it can happen? I’m sure they manage to get it right in countries where they allow voluntary euthanasia? You’d think it would be pretty straightforward.

Inhuman barbarity & pathetic incompetence. What a delightful combination.

She tortured and beat a kid to death. So to be honest, anything less than the equivalent feels to me like she got off more than she deserved.

The 'kid' was about the same age as herself so don't try to make it sound as if she was a baby killer

Butterflysunshine01 · 01/10/2026 21:45

her crime was absolutely horrific so in some ways this seems like karma . Still must be horrendous for those involved

ShakyBake · 01/10/2026 21:46

Old neighbour of ours used to write letters to people on Heathrow in the 90's, she also went to visit a couple of times and had to speak through a security screen using a telephone

The point was it wasn't an old person, it was someone with the majority of their life ahead of them.

It wasn't an 'in the moment madness', it was planned.

Beating, torturing, and slashing with a box cutter for over 30 minutes, carving a pentagram into the victims chest, before ultimately fracturing their skull with an asphalt block and keeping a piece of the victim's skull as a souvenir....

You can never release this person and they are getting a nicer death than they gave the young victim.

They are on death row for good reason.

Well said.

I have absolutely no sympathy for Christa Pike, her crime was horrific.

This isn't even the first instance of similar in the US this year, and there are at least half-a-dozen other similar cases in recent times.

BeeHive909 · 02/10/2026 03:17

Times like these they to bring back the chair. I’m pretty sure she asked for an alternative options as she was worried about her veins. Either way they’ll try again when it gets authorised. What I I don’t get is that people watch it form the viewing area

CostcoFanofThree · 02/10/2026 04:30

She had two other accomplices; one was 17 got life in prison (which is 25 yrs I believe) and the other spoke to police and received a plea bargain.
I was surprised they couldn’t get a proper IV start, what a very basic mistake.

She also had a mental health condition, and had been horrifically abused herself since she was 2 years old.

It was still a crime but a fair justice system acknowledges the terrible crime, looks at circumstances and takes measures to protect the public from that criminal.

Not slavering full tilt to violent t retribution.

And due to them not being doctors / trained medics, no doubt.

Not a supporter of death penalties at all.

I think the US likes the idea of them suffering, quite honestly. Why choose so many inefficient and inhumane methods over the years? Gas, electric chair, injections. A point-blank range big bullet would be immediate and guaranteed. Seems odd that a gun culture refuses to use the most obvious and humane method.

Cakeandcardio · 02/10/2026 06:21

America is not the developed nation we are told it is. Vile.

This is exactly what I was thinking! I don’t agree with ANY of this—but if you love guns and the death penalty so much as a nation/state—why not just use a gun to the head? I guess they don’t want to have to clean up the mess? Or they are using methods to dress it up as being ‘humane’ and ‘civilised’ when it’s actually just as barbarous as a gun to the head, if not worse because they are torturing the person.

Completely change a sentence thanks to autocorrect!

Norisca · 02/10/2026 07:35

Death row itself is inhumane torture. Imprisoning someone for decades with being put to death at some point in the future dangled in front of you.

Sorry, but 5 minutes of pain before falling unconcious was absolutely nothing compared to her crimes. Hopefully it helps to put off more people risking ending up in her position.

The only way to protect people was to keep her away from people forever.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot since Wednesday. And the more I think about it, the more it sickens me. It wasn't an instantaneous, tragic accident. They administered a massive, lethal chemical dose, saw that it failed to work, watched her conscious and asking what was happening, and then consciously decided to push a SECOND full lethal dose into her compromised system anyway. That isn't an error; it is systemic assault under the colour of law.

  1. Death row inmate for many many years
  2. Receives date and time of execution
  3. Reprieved one hour before execution time
  4. Execution goes ahead and fails
  5. Second execution attempt fails

Words fail me.

Just to add: most of her 30 years on death row were in solitary.

winter8090 · 04/10/2026 07:06

i believe the meds were sabotaged by some activist who does not agree with the death penalty.

Who knows where we go from here for this lady. Keeping her alive there will almost certainly be permanent serious damage.
surely this is the end for the death penalty.

Indeed. My thoughts and sympathy are with Colleen Slemmer and her family. The girl CP murdered after torturing her and then carried a piece of skull around as a souvenir.

On Jan. 12, 1995, 18-year-old Pike, her boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp, and her friend Shadolla Peterson lured Colleen Slemmer to the woods in Knoxville, Tennessee. There, Pike and Shipp tortured Slemmer and bludgeoned her to death. Pike believed Slemmer was interested in her boyfriend.
"When Slemmer tried to flee, Pike sliced her stomach with the box cutter. As Slemmer begged for her life, Pike repeatedly kicked her in the face. Pike then cut Slemmer’s throat as she begged for mercy," the Tennessee Attorney General's Office wrote in court documents.
After Slemmer made one final attempt to escape, Pike smashed the back of her head with a rock, they wrote. Shipp also carved a pentagram into Slemmer's chest, and Pike later showed off a piece of Slemmer's skull to a friend.Slemmer's body was found on Jan. 13, 1995. A Tennessee Grounds Department employee first mistook her body for the corpse of an animal because of how badly she had been beaten
