Not sure if I should be looking at Tanzania kenya or south africa
Would also like to combine with some beach time
So 3 days safari
Would be bored after too long then week at beach

Ideally maldives but maybe zanzibar or Kenyan coast

It would be a bit of a pain to fly to SA and then back again to add the Maldives on though!

you can fly to Mauritius from various airports in Africa

By the way, the luxury operators put on HUGE profit margins on what is already a very expensive holiday.

They are generally good and you do feel looked after but, ultimately, unless things go wrong, all they do is meet, greet and transport you. If you are even moderately brave, you can book the flights yourself and arrange things directly with the hotels and lodges far cheaper, and the upmarket places can all arrange luxury transfers for you themselves.

Not for everyone, and if things do go wrong, the operator can be incredibly helpful, but worth looking into.

Zambia (South Luangwa National Park) + Lake Malawi for snorkeling.

Eg:

Book through Expert Africa or Yellow Zebra Safaris.

Although I agree with PP that this will be expensive if your interest is luxury rather than the wildlife. (If you think 3 nights would be enough.) Maybe consider a snorkeling holiday instead.

We went to shumbalala lodge via Audley in a private game reserve attached to the Kruger. We thought it was amazing, the guides were so knowledgable, saw the big 5 several times, excellent food and we were in a thatched bungalow with a small infinity pool that overlooked wildlife. The main pool was overlooking a watering hole and you routinely had buffalo, elephants and antelopes etc passing. In Audley's categories it was First Class (second tier). Disclaimer- I've heard there are more luxurious options in Sabi Sands, and better wildlife in other countries, but it was our first safari and we loved it.

I also concur with people that tented is far more exciting than lodges. The tents can be super luxurious and you can hear the animals around you all nights.

I actually prefer walking and canoe safaris as you can get really close to the wildlife, and the guides are well informed and keep you safe. But they aren’t for everyone.

Speak to a good company who can tailor a trip based on your dates, budget, wishes etc. I recommend Aardvark Safaris.

I've stayed at the Chobe lodge and whilst I had a great time, it's not really high end luxury. however the guides were great and took me and DH on an extra game drive as there was an animal that I was disappointed that I hadnt seen.

I would go for a luxury camp experience, ive stayed in a few larger lodge/hotels and i sort of wish I had done a tent type one at least once as coming back to a resort takes you out of the "experience" a bit

To me, it’s watching the animals, that is the most exciting part of a safari holiday and I balance that against luxury. Chobe gave me a good hotel, with outstanding views of elephants in particular, although we also saw a cheetah and many other animals.

My ideal safari in Southern Africa would be Hwange safari lodge, South Luangwa, the Victoria Falls Hotel, somewhere in the Ockavango and Etosha (although we’ve not been there); but then the animals are my priority!

Probably Kenya, especially one of the private Mara conservancies. We did 3 nights in Naboisho with Beyond the Plains Safaris and then a week in Diani, and it was a brilliant combination.
You’ll find some very luxurious camps with infinity pools, wildlife coming past, great food and sundowners. You could also look at Zanzibar or the Kenyan coast afterwards. Maldives would be amazing too, although obviously a much longer journey.

I'd highly recommend Shamwari in SA. Just an absolutely unreal experience
