Maldives you would need to fly to via the Middle East so makes it a trek.
maybe sabi sands in South Africa followed by Mauritius or Mozambique works well for flights

MrsKateColumbo · 27/09/2026 19:51

Probably somewhere in the okavango delta as there are some very nice experiences available out there!

You'll want to do the Seychelles after probably as I think the Maldives would be a bit of a long flight. Mauritius is also popular post safari but I felt a bit medium about it tbh

The one Harry took Meghan to for their 3rd date or something sounded pretty amazing. Botswana I think but you'd have to look it up.

Londolozi in South Africa. Absolutely amazing. You will not regret it. I had a plunge pool off my room and watched wildlife go by from it. Impossible to recommend highly enough!

Botswana - Okavango delta. They very much focus on high end so there’s plenty of choice. A camp that’s too developed wouldn’t appeal to me though.

the below is amazing and the game viewing is fabulous

namibia also has some lovely places - Ongava reserve for example. Plus down in the desert there are some great lodges

Pom Pom - Kwando Safaris

Widely considered as the quintessential Delta camp with classic safari tents overlooking the Pom Pom lagoon.

We loved Chobe safari lodge. There is a swimming pool iirc, but it’s not an infinity pool. Also Hwange safari lodge.

I second the Okavango - absolutely stunning!

PowerRangerGoGo · 27/09/2026 21:44

Thanks so much for mideast and recommendations
I'm only planning on doing this once in my life, so i wanna do it right.
I'm guessing most people only do this once
It's just so vast so it's tricky to know where to look first

Second this. Singita lodges are amazing and mega luxurious

parietal · 27/09/2026 22:22

Look at Namibia or Botswana with a posh company like Audley.

Musicaltheatremum · 27/09/2026 22:35

We used a company called aardvark safaris. They can Taylor make something special for you.

MJOverInvestor · 27/09/2026 22:46

Singita have a very good reputation. Virgin Limited Edition also has the excellent Finch Hattons and Ulusabu opens again in April.

feliciabirthgiver · 27/09/2026 22:54

Another vote for Aardvark Safaris - they are amazing

Rainbow travel are very good they listen to what you want and arrange everything. They are not cheap but can do high end luxury if thats what you want.

I've stayed at the Chobe lodge and whilst I had a great time, it's not really high end luxury. however the guides were great and took me and DH on an extra game drive as there was an animal that I was disappointed that I hadnt seen.

I would go for a luxury camp experience, ive stayed in a few larger lodge/hotels and i sort of wish I had done a tent type one at least once as coming back to a resort takes you out of the "experience" a bit

CatherinedeBourgh · 28/09/2026 22:51

Mnemba island in Zanzibar is stunning. Fantastic diving and very special.

The safari we went to in Tanzania (Ngoro Ngoro crater lodge, and a couple of others) was very good and quite luxurious, but not quite infinity pool land.

BeardySchnauzer · 29/09/2026 06:45

I’m just not convinced luxury with an infinity pool really works for a safari - high end or not!

Yes, I preferred the camps to the luxurious hotel when on safari.

The tents were more luxurious than many hotels I've been to! And yet you somehow felt much more 'in it' iyswim.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 29/09/2026 07:21

Mahali Mzuri not been but has won conde naste awards.

but the whole safari experience is incredible anyway so I don’t think you’d need that. We went to El Karama think more family run and it was honestly next level amazing

Madcats · 29/09/2026 07:35

I met one of the owners of Aardvark on her honeymoon, many years ago. She since had triplets so knows a thing or two about taking children on safari. I’ve not done a proper safari for 20 years, but used to use Expert Africa.

When you want to go and what you want to see is a better place to start than “country”. Budget too.

In terms of “beach”, consider Mauritius or Seychelles. Mozambique or Lake Malawi if you want something more rustic (though you’d need to be comfortable with flying in small planes).

Newbutoldfather · 29/09/2026 07:44

You seem more interested in the luxury bit than the safari bit!

You will end up paying a lot (and I do mean a lot!) to see some animals stroll past in the distance as you sip your cocktail.

Safari is Swahili for journey (from kusafiri, which means to travel). It’s not really about sitting in an infinity pool (not saying that isn’t nice at the end of the day, though).

Most safaris involve a wake up at 6AM (or earlier), a game drive, then back for early afternoon and another drive in late afternoon/early evening with a drink on the truck to watch the sunset and back for a shower and dinner. Animals are most active in the cool of the morning and early evening.

If you do want luxury, then you can’t beat South Africa. However, for exciting game, I prefer East Africa. Never been to the Okovanaga Delta, but I believe that it is amazing.

Maybe.

Not sure about other operators but BA do or used to do a daily non-stop/direct LHR<>MLE so that option might be worth checking out if relevant to the OP's situation
